>>Speaking of freestyles..when did it become cool to call written bars over an instrumental a freestyle just cuz there’s no hook?
I mean are we really still having this conversation? “freestyle” hasn’t mean “off the head” in years. freestyle pretty much means any track that’s not an original song with an original beat. It can mean “off the head” but these days it rarely does. you can either accept this or continue to get aggy when niggas kick writtens. it’s up to you.

Lol, no doubt…I thought this was deaded like a couple years ago …its always a few in the bunch that are slow…
No one has kicked an off the dome freestyle in years and really we don’t wanna hear those freestyles unless you can do it well….Nowadays you gots to come with a written or you’ll be looking stupid or just plain un polished…I mean you can go off the dome after you spit your written but going off the dome rarely makes a memorable freestyle.
woah, somebody is stanning heavy for Pittsburgh Slim. I’ve heard some of his shit, and I remember him being aight. If he gets on his game and puts out something new I’ll post it.
Is it me or Does Don Cannon and Drama jack same swag/style of beats from Lantern?….like their whole style is mirrored after Lantern’s with the drops and the gun shots and all that other shit.
Obviously freestyles haven’t been off of the dome for a while, but it’s solid question, I have no idea when the transition began for the writtens, even in the battles, to become commonplace.

I think it stopped around the time niggas saw that murda mook vs Jae millz on smack took place…When it was first on youtube….niggas was mad cause they wasn’t freestyling…but soon every battle after that nigga’s had to come with writtens…
When making the band came out…niggas thought ness and jae millz was freestyling…but they weren’t.
But real talk a battle with writtens> battle off the dome
lol, yo my fault, it’s just that everytime I label something a ‘freestyle’ I feel like somebody comes in here saying the same shit.
^^
Tell em why u mad eskay. haha.
It’s cool…kinda like that dumb kid in math class asking bout algebra when we doin calculus.
I’m happy to see SuperNatural is still thriving doing his thing.
Although straight off the dome rhymes don’t sound as polished, they’re really entertaining and very interactive. I remember hearind Ed Lover’s freestyles back when he was on Hot 97 and they were surprisingly good, he really sound like he was simply having fun.

damn that Nas “Sly Fox” performance was painful to watch
dude was stumbling all over song, like he forgot half his verses and the hook
I understand he got a deep catalog
but thats no excuse.

July 17th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Shit, crucify a nigga for being late to the party, why dont u.
I’ve never had that conversation before. It never “got me aggy.” A nigga was just wondering why dudes spit writtens and call em freestyles.
Somebody gimme a list of shit i shouldnt bring up…plz. haha.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Nas never has been a good performer at all….The performance aspect of Hip-hop has been lacking for a long long time…..
Something the Golden age of rappers forgot to learn how to do….Great rappers, not so good performers….

Obviously the quality of the punches is going to be higher, there’s just something about two skilled MCs going off the top that just can’t be beat.

His written rhymes were stale.
