NYOIL x Nah Right: Who Should Get Lynched?
Every Hip-Hop fan on the planet has a strong opinion about what’s wrong with the current state of the music and who is to blame. In anticipation of the upcoming 7/8 release of his album Hood Treason, I decided to link with the big homey NYOIL and ask the questions:
What’s wrong with the music?
What improvements need to be made?
How can that be accomplished?
Download the instrumental and get busy recording your 16 bars on what needs to get better in hip-hop. Rhyme over the beat for “Y’all Should All Get Lynched,” off of NYOIL’s upcoming release, “Hood Treason,” in stores July 8th. Upload your audio or video file to the comments using zshare. Readers, post your comments on who spits the dopest verse and what you think about the current state of the rap game. Whoever records the winning verse will get a guest spot on the next N.Y. Oil release!

This album is a lyrical master piece, i really thought music like this was extinct….this is a great time for HIP HOP HEAD’S, word up! Even though their will be a bias opinion on this album because of the content, it still reeks of classical material and time will and always is the deciding factor on whether or not an album is a classic. With that said an album like this has never been done and if it has this albums expertise makes any othe not relevant. Nas coming out with somthing like in 2008 in unprecedented.

LF: All this week, everyday, i’ve been having this crazy dream that I bump into this dude that I got beef with, every night, but in different situations, the one yesterday was the most vivid, the dream started off with me finding out that the nig I got beef with moved on my block, so I instantly confronted him, I hit em over the head with 2 alley bottles, (cause I don’t fight fair in real life) knocking him out, I left em there leaking. So later on that day I get a call from someone else I knew, I answer the phone & he was on three way & said “oh you in the house? Bitch nigga, i’m out front”, soon as he said that, I grab the burner & was about to run to the door, that’s when I woke up, but the shit felt so real, I woke up & ran to the door anyway, I realized it was a dream, but it took atleast 5 minutes for me to calm down. Everytime I keep having the same dream, something happens, i’m bout to go hunting on some rambo shit, just to get this over with, I can’t take it, make me feel like i’m the one in fear, when it’s the total opposite. A nicca confused, but not for long.

the problem with posting a bunch of written verses is yeah, it might read really well but the delivery/voice/style might sound suspect in audio. NETcees are notorious for that. I think it’s cool you choose to do the video format, but I think it’s working against you at the moment. If you can, re spit that over just the audio. Also, it looks like you were reading off what you prob just wrote. If that is the case you might want to try to memorize your vrs first and then spit it. You’ll sound a lot more confident on it for sure.

At least back in the day you got stomped at worse… There are plenty of mc’s whose music I can’t stand, but i respect their hustle and I don’t hate them as people. But If I were to even mention that directly to any of them, they wouldn’t hear all of what I said, only that “I don’t like their sound”, and in an effort to be tough and uphold there name, guns are drawn… I’ve seen it happen too many times…
It’s like you HAVE to like every mc out there these days…and that’s bullshit! I’ve met plenty of other musicians in other genres who don’t take things so personally, especially critiques. But then again, there are just as many of us who don’t know how to critique, and think that dissin’ someone qualifies for that. “Your shit is whack” is not a critique, but people prefer that than something like ” your style isn’t my thing”, which isn’t a critique, but is still less offensive then the first statement. And nobody likes to be offended, I don’t care who you are.
People are gonna have to change their mind set before any kinda real advancements can be made. We could talk about this all day but it always seems like it falls on def ears…

I write alot…I write for myself and others…if you can’t reconize talent and real feelings, than this competition isnt doing what its suppose to or at least what you wanted it too…for everyone else my verse was not directed at NYOIL at all…why would I get on a beat to diss the other person on the hook…no matter how bad i think the hook is…the fact that i got on the song should mean more than my orginal thought and response…this comp wasnt about just the song at all, but rather how you approached it and how you worked on it… In fact I still had space for a third verse…so who knows…maybe i will finish what I started, seeing how NYOIL has put a little fire under me…now I feel like pulling out the pen and the pad…
Props to BigGunn for listening to everyones submission…you are actually one of the only person here I think cares at all…

You are way off, money. The reason I posted that verse should be obvious (and it is not to win anything). It’s the same reason you posted yours. It’s the same reason everyone else posted theirs. It’s the reason why NYOIL started this contest. It’s why we even go to nahright in the first place.
It’s HIP-HOP. My verse is hip-hop. And everyone’s ability to have and state an opinion about it is, too. So, critique all you want. Just remember, being constructive isnt always the only way to build.

You are way off, money. The reason I posted that verse should be obvious (and it is not to win anything). It’s the same reason you posted yours. It’s the same reason everyone else posted theirs. It’s the reason why NYOIL started this contest. It’s why we even go to nahright in the first place.
It’s HIP-HOP. My verse is hip-hop. And everyone’s ability to have and state an opinion about it is, too. So, critique all you want. Just remember, being constructive isnt always the only way to build.

Thanks for clearing that up. There is nothing wrong with you, or anyone else for that matter, stating an opinion. Nah right and NYOIL did ask for our opinions, which is exactly what you gave, and so did everyone else, but that’s as far as the similarities go. If I’d known that was your soul purpose I would not have attempted to critique your work, because as you said it’s not an entry. It wasn’t put together to be part of the competition, and I’m only critiquing those works that were put up looking for feedback, weather from NYOIL or anyone else.
As for your last sentence I’m not sure what you mean by it. You don’t have to explain it if you don’t want to, I just don’t know any other ways to build…

a few thoughts..
Spirit Equality- not bad, didnt sound quit tight on the beat, maybe that was due more to the recording being played in the background though. The verse and your delivery seemed a bit rushed. reading off appear is cool, but it felt almost like you were seeing it for the first time
The Advakit- love your voice, distinctive sound, you obviously know what you are doing, would like to hear more from you. tight verse, seemed a but like you could work on some breathing techniques to control, your breath and spit a little better, but really nice work
And the Winner Is- nice relaxed flow
Bigg Gunn- Tight verse, good added production elements to the track
Laws- decent flow, you had some nice metaphors in there
Master3- clean voice
Nanyanen- lol @ you beefing. odd angle to go for, but hey do you, would like to hear you over a different beat, this one didnt quite fit your voice & delivery style
Nato Caliph- ill all the way around, great voice, reminded me a but of big rube, content & metaphors totally onpoint and clever at that. a good look all around
Relyk 5000- nice effort, but it seems you could use a bot more oractice in the booth tightening up verses and learning beats and how to make everything all fit together. You had alot today and were damn sure going to say it all.. even if the words didnt all fit. you seemed to say “suck my dick” alot, nothing wring with that, but when you close out every verse with it, it loses impact. you seem young, but hungry so keep going or it
Stephen King- verse felt a bit rushed, liked that other track (the rock sounding one) better
Uptown Swuite- real nice natural flow, good cadance and delivery, last verse felt rushed
My vote goes to Nato Caliph. The Advakit & and The Winner Is round out my top three
