^1) the main appeal for lupe isnt that hes a better person than everyone else outside of the rap game, its that his lyrics are insane. just to clear that up, this whole argument kinda doesnt even really matter, but lets just keep going.

I think you forget that this is a business. Every other gun-toting artist was already known in their hood, whether they’re nice at rappin’ or not. Therefore it wasn’t hard to create a backstory for them which would appeal to that audience. Not that any of this makes a difference to me, but they (the labels) know how people think so it works in their favor. 50’s GRODT was good, but it sold more off of the hype (9 bullets and being signed to Dre/Shady) then the actual music. Lupe being a skateboarder who’s in tune with his people is a helluva lot easier to sell. Plus he’s nice.
