Yeah, but thats only because no-one believed him
Even if he was telling the truth
^ehh we dont really know why he changed, but are u tryin to say his current persona is not really him and is just a facade just to get people to listen to him? how can u say that when he spit that gangster shit for just a couple of tracks, quit it, and hes been a storyteller with the realness for years ever since…so in hindsight, i think its pretty clear this is what hes really about and he didnt change for anyone but himself

You gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me. Hov has (creatively, might I add) talked about clappin’ ninjas 100,000 ways over the span of his career.

^Exactly.
I don’t think it’ll ever get to the point where rap fans where they can just like a rapper only for the music. Majority of the music I like (& I like everything (n/h) I like because it’s entertaining, but a small group of artist I don’t like because of there personality, *ahem*lupe*ahem* but I still rock there shit if it bumps. Lupe got songs I like, but i’m not a fan, but I wont never bump him because I don’t like duke, if he make heat, it’s getting jammed. Some people can’t walk that line of liking a song w/o liking the person
I do it very well (pun intended n/h tho)

^co-sign…that’s the way I am for the most part but I have a hard time doing that with 50 [II]…I just can’t stand him and on a rare occassion that he makes something that acutally is nice, I have a struggle accepting it and bumping…but by no means am I a hater. I just have 0 tolerance for clowns…regardless of their position in life.

^It’s funny that you said that, I think that’s totally the reason why he changed. Why should lupe be looked at differently because his switch up was backwards compared to the average rapper that’s striving for fame? I mean busta rhymes rapped the same way for ten years, then woke up one day & became a gangsta, why should lupe be the exception?
I said that before the gangsta rap lupe shit surfaced that his approach was a marketing scheme, me & biggums had this arguement like a whole year ago

What I’m saying is, what if he blew up in his “Gangsta” stage?
He’d still be rappin about clapping dudes and shotting ki’s, thats what.
And it wasnt just a “couple” tracks. That was he’s whole style. He probably realised no-one believed/liked him like that, so he said “I might as well be myself”
Because if he got BIG talking a buncha gangsta shit, his first album would be gangster rap, skater rap
It just never worked out for him

werd jay does talk about clappin, but when mohammad hovi does it he has crazy rhyme schemes and the flow is nasty, his lyrics are off the chain and thats why hes GOAT

^But how do you know that? Or are you just speculating? Maybe he was smart enough to get in where he fit in because he knows what resonates (my favorite today) with the current climate of hip hop. And being that he’s lyrically potent then he can do it with ease. Not to mention he’s a die-hard Muslim (as he appears to be in his interviews) so he might’ve had internal battles to say/do certain things though he feels that he likes to talk the hardcore stuff. I applaud him for making “positive” music and I think he’s nice, but people just don’t get rid of certain characteristics that fast. As far as I know, he’s been Muslim all his life and was STILL doing those hardcore tracks so that speaks volumes.
And like someone said (Joe88, I believe), labels know that his gun clappery raps was not believable coming from him. Marketing is more important in the entertainment world than the actual product itself. This is why “positive” rappers don’t get the promotion needed because they know it can make a helluva difference. But 1.) he’s nice and 2.) he had the Camel GOAT co-sign so it makes THAT much of a difference.
Don’t believe the hype (c) P.E.

You know how difficult that is, though lol? People have to HATE the whole entity, they can’t hate a segment. It’s like It’s like you know you like that new G-Unit song but you’re a fan of Game … that’s considered blasphemous right now lol
