Video: Today Show Confuses Jay-Z & Joe Budden
It seems that when it comes to coverage of Hip-Hop stars by the mainstream media, the concept of fact checking just goes right out the window. In this clip from the Today Show about Rolling Stone’s Obama cover, an old promo shot of Joe Budden is displayed when they mention that the Senator enjoys listening to Jay-Z. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s baffling to think that not one person involved with creating this segment can positively identify a guy who is one of the biggest artists in the world, is married to one of the biggest pop stars in the world, and ran a major entertainment company for three years. Wow.

I love “Takeover”, “Neva Change”, and “Heart of the City” as much as the next guy. But “Niggas Bleed”, “Story to Tell”, and the death trilogy that closed out disc 2 are head and shoulders above anything Jay’s recorded in his life. And this is coming from a Jay fan. Both albums have a couple filler joints, so that cancels itself out. What we’re left with is percentage of Earth Shattering songs, and to that, Life After Death gets the nod. But dont feel bad for Jay, the only albums that are better that Life… are Death Certificate and Cuban Linx (no, I did not forget Illmatic and Paid in Full).

Trust, this has nothing to do with the fact that Big’s dead. Alot of people begin to get overrated when they pass. Cobain, Tupac, Elvis, Buddy Holly, etc. BIG isnt one of those people. “Story to Tell” is so intricate that Big re-told it at the end as an actual story so you could see how impressive maintaining those rhyme patterns. Its also laugh out loud funny, which is something 99.9% of artists in any genre can not pull off.
