chea, you’re entire comment is flawed. I agree that blog coverage doesn’t really improve sales much, at the same time, I think you’re sleeping on the influence blogs have. MTV did not push Wayne to a million. MTV doesn’t even play videos anymore so I don’t know what youre talking about.
Lollipop didn’t even pop as a single until recently. Wayne did a millie cuz he grinded his ass off on mixtapes and guest appearances and the blogs were one of the main (but not the only) ways he stayed visible while his album kept getting pushed back.

on the one hand, I have a huge problem with supporting albums that drop on RIAA backed labels.
on the other hand, I understand that rapping is these people’s jobs and they need to feed their families. I also feel that they should be compensated for their work.

I disagree slightly though.. Its all about raising buzz.. Its like trickle down economics. As your buzz on the blogs grows, people who are music fiends (us) gain awareness of certain artists. We bump the shit and it trickles downs to our peoples, and then to there peoples. At some point it hits the actual people who do actually buy music. There not even sure how the fuck they found out that (for example) “little Wayne is nice all of a sudden” or who the Cool Kids are. Somebody wrote this book about the end the of “taste-maker” marketing.. Thats it right there.

yup. i dont do market reasearch. on another note though..yall realize that rappers dont make their money with album sales? they make they money with show and tours unless they’re really really really big(think Jay, Luda) and get endorsement deals and all that. of course a good selling album leads to bigger concert halls and a bigger audience, but still..the money comes from the shows, not the album sales. Even if you sell 3 millie you only make 1 millie on a major.
