wayne is already big – blogs cover him not because it’s a good look for wayne and they’re doing him a favor — it’s because it’s a good look for the blogger
how did wayne do a millie?
i got three letters for you: MTV
lollipop got constant rotation and that’s why it did a mill the first week
any dime-a-dozen blogger who thinks he has juice like MTV needs to kill himself – how much did buddens sell? in the lead-up to mm3 NR, 2dopeboyz, wmdeez, uheardthatnew — everyone was posting everything dude breathed on. did it help? give me a break. n*ggas is getting too big for their britches
chea, you’re entire comment is flawed. I agree that blog coverage doesn’t really improve sales much, at the same time, I think you’re sleeping on the influence blogs have. MTV did not push Wayne to a million. Lollipop didn’t even pop as a single until recently. Wayne did a millie cuz he grinded his ass off on mixtapes and guest appearances and the blogs were one of the main (but not the only) ways he stayed visible while his album kept getting pushed back.
“Lollipop” became an instant-hit as soon as it dropped. I literally watched the single get released one week, and by the next week ended up being one of the Top 5 singles nationwide (radio spins + digital downloads). And that’s a fact. I couldn’t believe the shit myself when the single dropped.
I don’t think mixtapes have as much influence on consumers buying by the way. Most consumers don’t even kop mixtapes honestly. But his guest appearances on major songs definitely played a role.
Then he’s one of the most talked about dudes in the game.
