Lil Wayne Sued Over “I Feel Like Dying” Sample
Thursday, May 29th, 2008
I always assumed that if a song that used a sample never made it on to a retail release, the sampling artist was safe from litigation by the owner of the original work. Apparently that’s not the case. TMZ reports that South African singer Karma Ann Swanepoel and her publishing company have filed suit against Dwayne for his use of her vocals on “I Feel Like Dying,” his ode to all things hallucinogenic.
Eh, whatever. Wayne lost whatever sympathy he would’ve gotten from me, when he decided he wanted to act like the male Naomi Campbell. That being said, “I Feel Like Dying” stands as one of my favorite get-high rap songs of all time. As a matter of fact, pardon me while I destroy and rebuild this cigar.

UPDATE: Andres of CDR points to the following sentence on Karma’s Myspace page:
KARMA is also featured on the new Lil Wayne album called THE LEAK, due to be released in Dec 2007 on his hit single “I Feel Like Dying”
It actually never made it onto The Leak, so I guess she (or whomever owns her publishing) is just mad because he’s been running around getting paid to perform it. I guess I could just read the lawsuit, but I’m not really in the mood for legalese after that L.
