No shots taken Lord, and I see what you’re saying and actually agree with you to some degree. I agree parents are the ultimate role model and you can’t go around idolizing people because they are famous, good at sports, etc. But it’s a double edged sword because kids are going to be kids regardless and what they see on TV will most certainly have an effect on their behavior to some degree, even if you’re parenting skills are grade A. But aside from the whole role model thing, I see wherwe Whitlock is coming from with this limiting yourself by making brash and life altering decisions. No it’s not wrong to get a tattoo or braids, but in the fucked up society we live in, some people, and most of these people who control the money in this economy, have a view of what is right and wrong. And even though we shouldn’t follow that because it’s fucked the fucked up, we still need to be aware that it exists…

And though the NBA managers and owners (i.e. old white men) opposed the tats, they continued to use A.I. for being the cash cow that he was. Tats, cornrows, and legal woes aside, Iverson set the tone for the league and for the youth in general. His influence rippled throughout suburbia faster than any other talent in professional sports at the time, and that scared the hell out of conservatives (i.e. crakkkas and passive Blacks aka Uncle Toms). Iverson’s 1st shoe: sold out in a day. 76ers jersey: sold out in weeks. Sprite, Reebok, etc. all embraced the counter-culture to the “clean cut” Jordan image that was forced on NBA athletes prior to Iverson.
