Co-sig on the Trackmasters talk, from Mr.Smith to Best of Both Worlds, after Puff, they were pretty much the architects of New York’s mainstream sound at the turning of the century.
@ Rey, yea, mid-era Puff definetly got some “ideas” from Toke and Pone. and Harlem World has aged well. Because the general caliber of lyricism in hiphop has dropped tremendously, it arguably sounds better than it did when it dropped.
Funny, I don’t remember Trackmasters having a very diverse portfolio. Rap & R&B and that’s it.
Neptunes can do rock, reggae, rap, alternative, drum n bass, r & b, ballads, and seriously the list goes on.
Trackmasters made good music, but the word “made” should be enough evidence who is the better of the two groups.
Neptunes also broke several artists including the platinum Clipse. Who did Tone & Poke break?
Not to mention Tone & Poke were never brave or creative enough to do what the Neptunes have done. Their music was hot, but it was standard. It broke no new ground at all. Unlike those Tunes.

it’s the humble ones that rarely get the credit. nowadays you got producers shouting their names in every song. they usually get all the props.

@ b-ease– gracias. Puffy must’ve loved that sound cuz that was the bulk of Ma$e’s album–that shiny, shimmering, hi-hat stuff.
Not that I’m complaining, mind you.
