Personally, I’d rather listen to Ye than Dre right now.
Graduation against 2001… it’s Graduation for me.
But Dre is a God in this… Ye has to put in 15 more years of delivering classics, producing classics for others and developing seminal artists (on the level of Cube, Snoop, Em and 50) before he can stand next to Dre. Dude has alongwaytogo (c) Guru and Preem.
Looking at that list of dudes Dre helped create, I doubt Ye will ever get to that level…

His lyrics are solid, good even, but he’s not a Top 5 emcee. Top 5 artist or Top 5 beatmaker maybe, but Top 5 emcee is a different thing…
***Co-sign..sometimes his delivery sounds forced, but it is what it is…I mean, he’s made some great albums, but there’s no way he goes toe to toe with Nas, Jay, Kool G, Rakim, Slick Rick, BDK, and the rest of the pack…Kanye’s a musical genius, but as an instrument (rapper, n/h), he doesn’t distinguish himself enough- witty punchlines are cool, but that’s taken down a notch when you listen to somebody like Consequence or Rhymefest, and hear the exact same type of punch lines, delivered more effectively…I know niggas hate on CONS, but for real, he belongs in the top 5 argument over ye, and Cons doesn’t even belong in the conversation, either…
^^
Cons’ sound like a whiny ass Kanye (nhjic)… he comes correct with some of his lyrics (better than kanye most times) but i cannot stand his voice and flow (same way i cannot stand Kanye’s flow lately… just too fucking lazy) talkless of listening to a whole CD of him lyrics aside… nothin about him stands out (except his teefs) in the current pool of current players.. i bet the marketing folks at his label are having a difficult time marketing him
May 16th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

yeah but yeezy spawned yeezy
also em started producing a lot of his own beats after a while. just because dre “discovered” him doesn’t mean dre’s nice
otherwise if that’s the logic then dame is the nicest producer ever for discovering yeezy
also let’s be clear: mel-man produced most of chronic 2001. not dre. and jigga and em ghostwrote the lyrics dre spat on that album
so i’m sorry what does dre do again?
oh and scott storch did the keys on still d.r.e.
lol
there was a time where every time i started thinking dre was nice, i realized he barely had a hand in making the song
dre is missy elliot-status
he hears a good beat and he makes a few maneuvers to get it to radio
yeezy has no ghost-producers or ghost-writers
yes toomp/primo/etc. have given him beats/scratches from time to time, but rarely – and when it’s done, yeezy is very obvious about giving credit
dre is severely overrated, that’s always been my view

May 16th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
@ E – he gave extensive credit for both
the fact that it’s a story when someone has a hand in one of yeezy’s hits tells you something
with dre, it’s not even a story
instead, it’s “let me wait for the CD to drop so i can check the credits and see who really did this song”
oh and let’s not forget the ghost-producing that yeezy did, we’ll never know what type of ill shit he did for d-dot when he was d-dot’s ghost and d-dot was prolific back then

Dre, as the most successful producer Hip Hop has ever seen, gets a lot of hate… talk of Ghost-producers is bullshit. Who ghost-produced Fuck Tha Police? 100 Miles and Runnin’? Alwayz Into Somethin’? Deep Cover? Nobody did.
Dre’s legendary status attracts stone-throwers (no Peanut Butter Wolf). He didn’t just discover Snoop and Em, he made their beats and guided their careers (and fuck that, Dame did nothing with Kanye other than sign him… he wouldn’t even pay for a video. You think Dame went near an MPC? You think he said to KanYe “yo, wear tighter jeans” lol. FOH.)

Kanye’s quality of quantity doesn’t stack up to Dr. Dre……..
Kanye is only able to produce a certain type of sound……Dre, broke artist and are able to mold beats to the artist……Dre’s album chronic is better than any albums of Kanye’s…..
G.funk sound> Chipmunk soul beats
Just blaze production> Kanye west production
Heatmakerz 1.5 year run> kanye west….
Kanye’s best material is on the the blueprint…..his rapping is better than his beats now….Not taking anything away from his beats but his production is not as good as when he first came into the game…..

Latarian Milton Says:
May 16th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
>>yeah but yeezy spawned yeezy
^Wrong. His whole style is the love-child of a No ID/Pete Rock/Rza menage. Whether direct tutelage or influence from hearin’ records, he took bits and pieces.
>>also em started producing a lot of his own beats after a while. just because dre “discovered†him doesn’t mean dre’s nice
^That’s the difference between a producer and a beatmaker. A producer has the ability to convey the message of an artist by emphasizing his strengths over production, hence make a complete album mesh as a story. Even though I’m a Piddy (c)DPS) hater, he has mastered that trait without ever pickin’ up an MPC. Just look at his body of work: Mary J, Biggie, Jodeci, Ma$e (first album arguable classic), Black Rob (first album flawless), American Gangster album, Carl Thomas, Faith, and the list goes on. What artist has Kanye broken? A beat maker does just that: make beats.
>>otherwise if that’s the logic then dame is the nicest producer ever for discovering yeezy
^Dame never claimed to be a producer. CEO. And he would be more of an A&R than anything.
>>also let’s be clear: mel-man produced most of chronic 2001. not dre. and jigga and em ghostwrote the lyrics dre spat on that album
^And I met the dude named Glove that did “Phone Tap”. Your point? Dre never claimed to be a producer-rapper. He only raps for the sport. You can take away 2001 and ‘Ye’s body of work still doesn’t compare to the body of work that Dre has accumlated thus far.
>>so i’m sorry what does dre do again?
^Dre = producer. Kanye = beatmaker
>>oh and scott storch did the keys on still d.r.e.
^See: previous paragraph
lol
>>there was a time where every time i started thinking dre was nice, i realized he barely had a hand in making the song
^Fair opinion. Kanye, still, hasn’t equally matched success.
>>dre is missy elliot-status
he hears a good beat and he makes a few maneuvers to get it to radio
^For one, it’s funny how people think people just take somethin’ to radio and it gets play. If that’s the case, Freeway’s Roc affilition would allow him a retarded amount of BDS stats. Number two, to downplay Missy’s accomplishments is asinine if you know anything about music. She may not be the greatest MC (similar to Dre) but writing is her strength and she has spawned more hits behind the scenes than on wax (also similar to Dre).
>>yeezy has no ghost-producers or ghost-writers
yes toomp/primo/etc. have given him beats/scratches from time to time, but rarely – and when it’s done, yeezy is very obvious about giving credit
^You just contradicted yourself with the last two statements. Of course it can’t be a ghost-producer if he gives the credit, because then it wouldn’t be a ghost-producer (duh). Regardless if he gives credit or not, the point is that he received help. Period.
>>dre is severely overrated, that’s always been my view
^Well maybe you need thicker glasses. Either way, you’re allowed to feel the way you do. But facts > emotions.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
