I ONLY defend my culture to “outsiders” when they blatantly say something derogatory that I can absolutely prove to be untrue. Most times I say “It’s really not for you.” The sad fact is lately, SOME of the things parading under he umbrella of Hip-Hop has been indefensable. I just hate when dumb asses (Jason Whitlock, Mike Wilbon and other Uncle Tom-esque writers, although I like Wilbon) try to tie shit like drug dealing, dog fighting and being intentionally stupid to Hip-Hop.
