On the Hova/Gallagher thing:
Gallagher was wrong for that, but dude ain’t racist eskay.
He doesn’t think Jay has a place at Glasto, and as a brother who has been, I kind of agree. People that go to Glastonbury these days go to see guitar music. The hippy vibe where people would be happy to be exposed to different cultures and different styles has died. That was the essence, but that has gone now for the most part.
The fact is, Hip Hop artists play Glastonbury every year, but they are the media darlings, underdog/underground dudes. Major players on the scene are known, by this crowd at least, for their diamonds, bitches and guns raps, and that doesn’t sit well with the modern-day Glasto crowd.
When all is said and done though, Jay will put on an explosive show, and get the crowd amped if they allow him to…
…they’re musically prejudiced, not racially.

yeah, aight. people can defend Gallagher all they want: “Oh, he can’t be racist, he grew up in the hood in Manchester” or whatever, but I ain’t buying that shit. in my eyes, the only reason for the type of venom he repeatedly spews at Hip-Hop artists is that he a closet racist. I understand what Glastonbury is about, and if I was Jay I wouldn’t even have agreed to do that show, but the organizers asked and he agreed, so all of those fucking pretentious, racist, holier-than-thou rock fans should fucking get over it. they, like Gallagher continuously put down rap music as nothing more than black coons rapping about their chains, guns and women. and while some artists fit that bill, Jay certainly does not, and neither do any of the artists who inevtiably end up on the receiving end of that type of closed minded criticism. if you don’t like rap or don’t want to see Jay-Z headline Glasto, then either don’t go, or leave before his performance, but all that shit talk is uncalled for and stems from the underlying racism that permeates many of these majority white, musical sub-cultures.

@ Spot- according to AHH:
BREAKING NEWS: Remy Ma Sentenced To Eights Years In Prison
New York–Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison today by a Manhattan Supreme Court judge for shooting her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph after the two argued over money after leaving a party.
She was sentenced to five years on the weapons charges and three on coercion. The sentences are to run concurrently for a total of eight years.
“I’m not a thug,†Remy Ma told the judge. “I’m not a hardcore anything, I have feelings. I’m a wife, mother, daughter, big sister.â€

Papoose, the rapper’s fiance, held a stoic look on his face as he left the court room. The day before he was involved in an incident at Riker’s Island while he visited Remy Ma. The pair were scheduled to marry but prison officials denied Papoose after they thought an item of his was a skeleton key.
Papoose later got into an argument with court officers and had to be escorted out. “Fuck jail,†he yelled as his friends pulled him away. “Fuck jail, lock me up. I don’t care, y’all just want money. She didn’t’ do nothing.â€

I think the reporters blew his words outta proportion. Glastonbury is a guitar event, and why should hip-hop artist perfrorm there for a headlining event?
What if the Summer Jam people asked One Republic or U2, to perform, all of New York would be up in Arms. Dude might be a closet racist, but he is speaking the truth. That is not a hip-hop crowd.
But Jay does rap about chains, women and guns, but thats not all he raps about. Oasis is a crazy group anyway, they stay getting into fights so its understandable.

WWOOOWWW… slow down cowboy. I haven’t seen such proper text on here since The Atlantic Suicides. I don’t really give two shits about Gallagher or Oasis, but from what I understand from his avid fans is that they failed to convey his tone when he made those comments. yeah, he was talking shit about Jay but it was one of those “ughh not one of those rappers” comments, not some Don Imus shit.

apparently “he’s actually very funny in interviews, but the music press has a habit of printing every opinion he expresses as if it were a news story (and considering he seems to hate pretty much all modern music that makes him appear a bit negative)” or some hippie shit
also: The Beastie Boys headlined the show in 1994, which is 2 years before Oasis did.
May 13th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
>>yeah, he was talking shit about Jay but it was one of those “ughh not one of those rappers†comments
yeah, well that’s exactly what I’m talking about. “not one of those rappers”? that tone right there is uncalled for. even if you’re not a fan of their music, don’t act like they’re all fucking imbeciles, and show “those rappers” some fucking respect.

I see what you’re saying, but he wasn’t gasping, he probably had his legs crossed and his round blue Ringo Starr/Elton John glasses on when he said it. The interviewer was watching him do a line of coke and she said what do you think of this Jiggaman headling your show and he said: this bores me.

You’re taking what noel is saying way too seriously… I mean black men and women 50 and older think the same way about rappers too. It’s not that big of deal, and I dont understand why he has to show rappers respect.

Hip Hop has been at Glastonbury for a long time. There is more to Glastonbury than shitty guitar bands trying to recreate the 1960’s.
What has pissed Gallagher and the rest of the NME reading chumps off is that Jay-Z is headlining and he isn’t one of the chosen few who gets a pass from them. Eminem could have headlined no problems, just like the Beasties… What’s the connection there?
Gallagher doesn’t have to respect Jay-Z but he’s not just talking about Jay in the comment, it’s Hip Hop in general he claims has no place at Glastonbury.
Anyone from the UK should know the quite apparent racism that exists within the pages of the NME and those who read it (i.e. the majority of people who flock to sit in pools of mud each year at Glastonbury.) Black music is dismissed (unless performed by white artists, or they can get some shitty ‘ironic’ in-joke from it), very few Black artists of any genre get a pass from them.
The simple response would be to claim it’s down to musical preference, you’ll find the majority of those complaining openly admit they don’t know a single Jay-Z song, they will know Beastie Boys records, Eminem records, N*E*R*D records, Public Enemy records, Dr Dre records, Kanye records… It’s not about the music (and debatable if their claims not to know a single Jay-Z record are true as he’s far from unknown over this side of the pond.)
If they wanted to claim it was purely a musical preference complaint, there are other stages and artists performing whilst Jay-Z will be performing. They don’t have to watch him.
So that just doesn’t hold any weight, nor does their overreaction to the news - claiming it’s killed the festival, etc.
The worst part is that there could be violence at the festival, which will be instigated by the knuckle dragging ‘rock’ fans (see their reaction to 50 Cent performing at another British festival - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL1dvdGoOvk ) and it will be credited to Hip Hop, making it even harder for promoters and artists to get venues over here.
