    Joe 88,

Man I told you that same shit about iverson bout a week ago, and you went to bat for him. I said that him and anthony plays the same way, and iverson is a team killer.

Anthony has already proven himself in a system where he can win. Anthony was the best player in College as a freshman so there was no need for him to stay. He’s one of the best players in the NBA, he just lacks proffesionalism and maturity.

Kobe’s eyes lights up when he sees JR. Smith guarding. That nigga goes extra hard when he guards him. That’s what Jr Smith gets for trash talking.
That spin cross spin move to the left hand move kobe put on him was banannas. Kobe wants to demoralize trash talkers and kill them at will.

(and he DOES deserve to be in the argument- definitely top 5 of all time), and the most transcendant and influential cat in the game spends his time making diss records against a basketball player who he doesn’t even know…with great power comes great responsibility, lil’ humpedback homie (none)….To be fair, though, I haven’t heard anything from Nas yet, either…

I’m thinking… all these rappers making tracks about this shit, but who are these tracks aimed at?

All the dudes that will check for Joell’s take on things probably already heard three other records on this subject by border-line underground emcees. And the people checking for this are already pissed off, so what’s the point? Are these little tracks really going to make New Yorkers stand up and riot? Are some of the emcees in question guilty of thinking “shit, I better make a track and look like a conscious dude”. I hope not. Not Joell anyway.

?uestlove’s T-shirt had a bigger impact globally than this track will. At least it crossed boundaries of race and class and was seen (and hopefully digested for what it was) by a demographic that usually wouldn’t check for Hip Hop.

That’s what’s needed if dudes aren’t going to riot and put this shit on CNN for the world to see. We might need a Jay-Z level artist dropping a track. A KanYe-level artist to get on TV and say “NYPD don’t care about Black people”, Barack to wild out in an interview… something that will make EVERYBODY sit up and pay attention, across cultures.

Shit, talking to Wifey about the Sean Bell fuckery last night, she said “Sean who?”. Even though I’m in London, that’s some bullshit. She knows who the fuck Rodney King is. Why? Becuase shit got burnt on CNN.

***LOL…I’m really not trying to go @ dude, but I’m saying…if he has time to cut a diss against a basketball player on the wrong side of a lopsided series a good three hours away from his home, that has nothing to do with him in any way, why can’t he devote the same energy to addressing shit in his own backyard? NY cats revere Jay…he needs to give up that “truth be told, if skills sold, I would prolly be lyrically talib kweli” gobbage, and step up, IMO…then again, that’s just my opinion….nobody’s asking him to suddenly become a freedom fighter, but I’m saying, can you rep your people, and your city, with the same conviction you put behind pushing Budweiser Select to the masses, at least for the 10 minutes it takes to record an off the top joint?

  14. Joe 88 Says:

    @ Jud

Yeah, your right about iverson, but it would work if he brought into the system, the year he went to the finals, he went with the larry brown system. Carmelo showed me his heart last night (n/h) by sticking kobe, no fear at all, but I can only imagine how he feels, he wants to win, but his teammate isnt on the same page as him, either iverson buy into a team system, or trade his ass, or bring him off the bench, iverson scores his best shots off screens, not holding the ball, tryna create a shot, he use to do it with philly, but he’s a lil older now, if the nuggets get a true point guard, they can make a big impact in the west. I don’t see why iverson don’t try to avg 8+ assist, him passing the ball more would only open him up for shots, the way the lakers rotate the ball, the nuggets can do that too, but since they don’t pass the ball, there inside men be looking surprise when iverson, or J.R passes them the ball in the lane, causing them to drop passes, or not finish because there not use to getting the ball that low in the paint. I fear Iverson will finally fit into a system when he’s not able to do the things he can to now, he’ll be a six man for the spurs in 2 years or so.

Well you are shaking your head from an artistic level, but I’m talking from a economical aspect. He should focus his energies on other things because in the future rap, won’t be there for him. He should save all his money and start a donut shop, or bakery place. It will fit him.

Joell ortiz is an avg rapper at best. He has some skills but lacks in other areas. He style of rap cannot make it into today’s time, he’s just a New York underground rapper. He wont hit mainstream. Dr. Dre can’t save him and neither can puffy.

He should just realize he will always be an underground type rapper, and he probably is happy with that.

Ya’ll cats don’t understand. Step back out of the nahrigh/internet rap world and look out side this vacuum/box.

Joe Budden is Hardly known….who is he? He is relatively a nobody. He is somebody to you in some secret society rap circle but he is hardly known.

Jay is above the rap beef. Rap beef does not generate interest. His audience is on a much broader scale. Deshawn stevenson is much more known than a Joe Budden. 99 percent of the people in this world does not know who joe budden is. A lot more people know deshawn stevenson and he is hardly known himself.

Why should jay go after Joe Budden?….To please you little hip-hop fans?…Don’t you guys know you’re only like a half a percent of his income.

Also it wasnt as much as a diss to deshawn as it was a defense/ protection of Lebron.

This is business people…Lebron is on a whole nother level… Joe Budden is like a peasant in the grand scheme of things….Listen to yourselves, some of you are stuck in this little rap world that you don’t even know what goes on outside the circles.

    This is all business.

@ Jud – Admittedly, I’m an old head so I’m looking at this from my experience.

“Are you saying that the type of hip-hop that you like is dying?” – Kind of, yes.

When ninjas won’t let an emcee like Joell live, the Hip Hop I like is dying in favour of what’s “hot”, saleable or what have you. I don’t want to labour the argument, I’ve taken up too many dudes valuable time writing shit about this, but rap is rap and Hip Hop is something else.

Rap will never die, some dude someone will be rapping in 1000 years time, God willing. It’s just for me, the spirit of Hip Hop is being strangled by commercialism and that is breeding a lack of originality and a lack of longevity. When we value swag, dance-crazes and ringtone-sales over boom bap, ill metaphors and coherant albums, then cooning is winning and Hip Hop is losing.

It ain’t about North and South, and it’s just an opinion. One that I air more than my drawers, some will say! Agree or disagree and K.I.M.
