Nah, as an old head, I have respect for Busta dating back to ‘Scenario’. Bought all of mans CD’s and what have you, but I don’t think he’s on that level.
For me, dude was best when he was jumping on a track as a guest. I know that back in the mid 90’s there weren’t too many emcee’s that could rip a remix or guest appearance like Busta. But he’s not a great, imho.
There’s a lot of underrated emcee’s out there I would put ahead of him. Black Thought immediately springs to mind as being one, if a totally different type of artist…

Off. The. Hook.
Shorties was from all over: PA, NJ, NY, NC, LA, VA, etc. The DJ, was on point (not Budden’s DJ). He was takin’ it BACK with the hip hop. Played some ol’ New Jack Swing era. My manz drove, and he mainly wanted to go because the chick that invited him, it was her birthday. Some chick from her crew stepped to the god and basically cuffed me for a long period of time. Found out she a freak that went to school with him (Morgan). I’m tryin’ to see what dat be like (c) Mike Epps. Everybody was peace. No thuggery. With the exception of 2 clown ass Alphas dancin’ way too hard in the circle it was a lovely function.

Billz, Icon, B-Ease: If you guys made it to Love Friday, sorry that the Wu decided to cancel last minute. I had no idea until I got there. I know that was the only reason why ya’ll would of gone to the show or went if you did.

Wifey and my man flaked out, so i didnt roll thru either lol. good looks on the tix tho homie, much appreciated. let me know who else is rolling thru, ill get a more dependable crew lined up next time.

Sall good chief. Regardless, the tickets was definitely appreciated. Plus I didn’t go anyway because I didn’t wanna get dressed up to see the Wu. Had it been an r&b act then possibly. I did end up going to some spot in Silver Spring the following night. Had a good time. But definitely keep me posted on anything else that’ll be going on there.
^ Was it called Gallery? I was there Saturday night for one of my friends birthday party.

Busta has one of the BEST track records of any MC ever!
^
Listen, the dude is not a great.
Yes, he deserves respect for his achievements, no question. But who really thinks he’s up there with the greats? He can’t hold a torch to the KRS’s, Rakim’s, Kane’s, G Rap’s, Ice Cube’s, LL’s, Scarface’s, Nas’s, Hov’s, BIG’s, Pac’s or whoever. How long does this list of greatest emcees need to get before it’s just a list of competent emcees?
This is a newish culture and Rap a newish music… emcees-wise, I’d say we’ve had about 8 to 10 “greats”. Busta ain’t one.

We was posted up in the cut on the opposite end of the bar by the speaker. Right under the little railing. Depending on where you were you might’ve seen us.

‘Vado changed the direction of Dancehall, not Reggae.
^true. but he made that pivot now and he, like Buju, who was strictly dancehall in his early years, is moving more into the bleed.

^iCon, I don’t think he meant anything personal by it fam. You know how we as Nahggers take personal and trivial situations and flip them into humor. I overstand your situation though because it hits more close to home and you don’t see the humor in losing your father to similar consequences. But I don’t think XFacta meant any malicious intent by it. I know it’s quite a few things on NR that will pop up from time to time that I don’t find amusing as well. In this situation, I guess this was one of the things on your behalf.
Lets not turn this into anything personal, or for the lifeless, fake-ass instigators and lurkers to get involved with.
Now give e-dapz.

I dunno why hip-hop fans are so scared to call artists “Great” until they die…This is the only genre where fans are like that…
I could hold up Busta’s resume next to any MC, he’s a true Hip-Hop Icon
I dont understand how anyone can look at his catalogue & say he’s not one of the greats
He’s a living legend

^ I respectfully reserve the right to disagree wholeheartedly. You can’t have Busta stood next to Ra and KRS, like “they are three of the greatest emcees”.
Two of the greatest emcees and a very good, very popular, very inventive rapper.
But it’s all opinions.

[…] Now watch as I’m about to break every Hip Hop rule there is in the book: I think the Vocoder (voicebox) might be the greatest thing mainstream hip hop has going for itself right now. I know it sounds like something ridiculous to say, but jokes aside, this is trueness. I used to hate T-Pain’s guts, but fuck if he can’t make an incredible song out of nothing. From his success, others have attempted to copy, usually successfully. Other notable uses of it were by Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Lil Kim, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne again, KanYe went in twice (above) & Lil Kim again. Sure, Lollipop was a big joke when it came out, but soon after I don’t know one person that wasn’t bumping it repeatedly, either for comedic or therapeutic purposes. All the above songs are hot as fuck too, with the exception of the Lil Kim attempts. Sit the fuck down Kimberly. […]
