For all his best rapper alive talk, Dwayne has never had a solo No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. That all changed this week when, propelled by 183,000 downloads, “Lollipop” shot to No. 1 on the chart.
Wow, that song is not that good people. It boggles the mind that 183,000 people (not to mention however many people had copped it before last week) would pay money for that track. Especially when all you have to do is type this into Google.
But any way you slice it, this is a pretty good indication that Tha Carter III is going to be a commercial monster if it ever hits stores. I think Universal may have fucked up a little by pushing it to June though. With the buzz this kid has, you could seriously announce the shit was hitting stores next week and I think he’d still do 500K on GP.

I think Universal may have fucked up a little by pushing it to June though Are you really surprised at this? You know major labels never get it right. I’ll be happy if Wayne goes platinum as long as the album is great. If it’s an album full of “Lollipop” type singles, it doesn’t deserve to go gold.

the song’s nice (better than any other big Top 40 pop/rap that comes to mind right now,) but it seemed to me like Universal may’ve pushed it back cuz they were afraid that it’d be a “Low”-type thing where a bunch of people buy it off iTunes but no one gives a shit about the album. obviously Wayne’ll do a lot more than Flo Rida numbers, but i’m not so sure i see dude doing Kanye numbers just off the single.

I bought the song, ever after I had the free download, because this dude is a monster, the sheer volume of work that dude has released for FREE since Tha Carter III. I almost feel obligated to cop his shit, garbage or not, although i do think that lollipop is a fly record, nonetheless, congrats to weezy f on his first #1 record. Wayne’s been rapping since he was 11, he ain’t gonna stop rapping till he’s under the ground. Southern rappers pretty much sell their same numbers for their entire career. Up until Th Fix, Scarface put up the same numbers every time. Until his last album, Luda was putting up the same numbers. Ditto for TI. Generally speaking, Southern fans are way more loyal than other regions. Like, where did all of Spice 1’s fans go? LOL.

I love how Wayne’s new song is so popular and it has barely any lyrics on it, it’s like a bunch of little choruses he repeats over and over again. Plus the music in this beat is from the TV show Deal or No Deal, listen to the show when they try to get all dramatic, it is the same shit. hahaha. I personally do not like Wayne at all, but this record is a stroke of genius. If I hear it once I sing it for weeks.
