Lil Wayne – A Milli (Full)
Here’s the full version, sans Gunz Jr. Unfortunately it’s clean. But yo, doesn’t Dwayne look exactly like Whoopi in that pic? The resemblance is really uncanny.
Again, props to the 14 people who emailed it to me.

to k-rob and moresicka, i don’t think you’re understanding simple numbers
a little label like koch gets money off of almost any album that moves some units, because they have very little overhead and promotion costs
they have a mdoel where a dude can do 50,000 the first week and koch still cakes off of it
not interscope
interscope has a marketing machine that it deploys for albums like 50’s and 50’s albums have to do tremendously well for them to even start making money
and fyi — they didn’t make money off of curtis. that’s why all 50 can say is “my fans liked it.†is he saying interscope got rich off of it? no. because they didn’t. they took a loss.
what has happened is that the industry has changed and you guys are still looking at just units. it’s not that simple. the projections for 50’s album were enormous and it didn’t come close to meeting expectations.
my advice: get off of dude’s dick. thanks.

Last time I checked, a “flop” was determined by expectations, not actual numbers. Flop may be a error of hyperbole, but the fact that it DIDN’T meet expectations = flop by industy standards…. Not hatin, cuz I think 50′s hungrier than he’s been since pre-GRODT, and I like what I’ve been hearing from his camp this year… I say all this to say that the fact that 50 just GAVE AWAY 2 quality mixtapes shows that he’s figuring out that just because you can brag about having the most sales doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re the MOST relevant in a fickle market. K-Rob, I hope you’re gettin paid for this because if not you are simply in denial… Got too much work today 4 this pointless ish.

On the subject of 50, I think his current marketing scheme (thisis50.com and the mixtapes) is a good look. It’s nothing new, but he’s hitting ninjas in the head with continuous product… whether we buy his retail joints or not, he must be caking up through advertsing revenue or some such revenue stream (otherwise, whats the point of all this?)

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/27/the-music-industrys-new-extortion-scheme/
But Warner Music is doing more than just talking about a music tax. They’ve hired industry veteran Jim Griffin to create a new entity that would create a pool of money from user fees to be distributed to artists and copyright holders. Lawsuits against their customers aren’t working (The RIAA sent out 5,400 letters in the last year, says Portfolio, settling with 2,300 of those individuals and suing 2,465 who didn’t respond).
The goal? $5 per month from everyone, or fees of $20 billion per year. That’s double the current size of the recorded music industry ($10 billion).
Akamai’s David Barrett has an interesting angle on the issue. He calls the plan “tantamount to extortion, because it forces everyone to join,†and “It’s too late to charge people for what they’re already getting for free.†I agree – the music tax is little more than a classic protection racket.
As I wrote two months ago, a music tax will be the last stand of the music industry, and their last attempt to preserve the hierarchy that exists today. Here’s what I said then:
Music Taxes Will Kill Music Innovation
Forcing people to buy music whether they want to or not is not a solution to this problem. The incentives created by such a system are perverse – guaranteed revenue and guaranteed profits will remove any incentive to innovate and serve niche markets. It will be the death of music.
Music industry revenues will be a set size, regardless of the quality or type of music they release. Incentives to innovate will evaporate. There will only be competition for market share, with no attempt to build the size of market or serve less-popular niches. Forget labels building new brands and encouraging early artists to succeed – they’ll bleed existing big names for all they are worth and work hard to keep anything new – labels, artists, and songwriters – out of the market. New entrants just means more competition for a static amount of money. Collusion by existing players will run rampant.
Soon labels will complain that revenues aren’t high enough to sustain their businesses, and demand a higher tax. It will go up, but it will never go down.
As I said before, Asking the government to prop up a dying industry is always (always) a bad idea. In this case, it is a monumentally stupid, dangerous, and bad idea.

Rap has entered into a new era, so what you define as an incredible mc, won’t be considered an incredible mc 5-10 years down the road.
Just like a nigga who was rapping fast was considered hot back then, now it’s just been written off as corny.

I thought of Snoop immediately. He’s a better emcee than a lot of people give him credit for, but he’s not a great emcee. His profile is what it is due to originality, personality and “swag”. But my problem isn’t with all that, read the comments.
My problem is with the “hot” bullshit, and “swag” legitimising wack emcees. Snoop is not wack. Weak rappers can find themselves on a list of ‘hot’ emcees because of their style of dress. It seems we’ve got to the point where “swag” has become more important than skills. Truth be told, it’s probably always been an issue to some extent, but weak rhymers are getting a pass now due to their Bape gear or kicks.

A lot of the examples I used to highlight my dislike of the “hot phenomenon” were Wayne-related, but I don’t hate Wayne. Tha Mobb is a crazy track. I used dude as an example of what annoys me about classing a dude as a “hot” rhymer. Lyrics seem to come second to “swag” right now. The MTV “Top 10 Hottest MC’s” thing they did about 3 or 4 months back concentrated a lot on swag and popularity. No mention of skills. I suppose they weren’t measuring skills with that, but I just have an issue with what’s “hot”. Shit, the charts tell me about popularity, what do I need an MTV list for? Get a panel of experts to tell me who’s the best right now. Wayne might make that list, he might not.

________________________________________
Well because I’m here to explain the phenomenon that is occuring within hip-hop and music.
I see a lot of people complaining about the music, because they say the music is bad. It’s not so much that the music is bad, it’s that the music is different. Every generation says that the next one sucks. It’s been proven and documented throughout history.
If one knows the principle and Theory of American Music, then one can simply look at it objectiively and take it for what it is.
This transformation in the rap game is similar to pre-capitalism into capitalism. The dominant forces in rap have lost power.
With money and power, you hold the means of production and your ideas dominate of what is. New York had power in the rap game, they dominated the idea of what is a great mc. These ideas where held for a long time because that is what people have been conditioned to believe what is considered great in an art form. The criteria was set by them, because of money, dominance and power.
Now the power has shifted. The ideas of what is considered hot and good, is not the same as what New York’s was because the access to the production of means has changed. Have you ever noticed why our laws are our laws? Who makes the laws. Certainly not the average person. Laws are made by those who own the means of production and they hold the ideas in the world. When power shifts, thoughts and ideas shifts.

that last few sentecnesa re on point…thats my concern and disgust with the “hot” factor goin on nowadays.
just like Mims, he ahd that hella popular and hella played “this is why Im hot ” track, million ringtones sales, video on MTV, TRL, etc etc the whole 9. so in a sense he was a what is considered by todays standards a “hot” MC, cause he was popular, had “swag”, hype, etc.

Pinch of salt required in most cases.
@ Jud – I appreciate your take on this issue. I’m going to think about what you said there from the perspective of classifying a great emcee. You’re right, 80-90% of how I classify great MC’s is by what they say. But who’s to say that I’m right going about it like that. Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding are great because of how they say it. Why should Rap music be different? It’s an aural experience, not a written one after all. When all is said and done, I’ll respect what a dude says over how he says and how he presents it until I return to the dust, but it’s some valid points you said right there.

That article Crazy posted is interesting, maybe a nahright post or something. They trying to charge EVERYBODY a fee (maybe $5) bundled with your internet service for unlimited music downloads and split that money among the artists as downloading royalties. Different fee in different countries. Is this bad or good? Objectively speaking….i know everybody wants free music.

The reason you people are fed up with rap music has nothing to do with the music itself. It’s because the music is not the same as when you were first listening to it.
When things change, people complain.
Music is being outsourced now, and people are complaining.
The Dominant region of Rap music is not the sol power anymore and is crumbling as a collective entity.
There is no monopoly anymore.

Technology is the real reason why music seems to suck these days. Music taste is personal, but because of technology “we” have turned it into a worldwide debate/discussion. Back when the only discussions that mattered about music were from people you knew in your immediate circle things seemed better.
Now, with the internet, cable, blogs, satellite radio, forums, etc. opinions and debates are overwhelmingly rampid, which I think is causing this mayhem we know today. You can’t even share your opinions with folks because they try to make you feel like an ignorant asshole because they don’t feel the same way. Shit’s crazy these days…

@Rigz:
I wouldn’t give credibility to anyone’s claim to ghostwriting RD because we’ve witnessed Jigga’s evolution or de-evolution.
I liken Jigga’s career to a ballplayer who DIDN’T use performance enhancing drugs(ghostwriiters).
He came out hot, got better, peaked and experimented (Blueprint 1, The Dynasty Album, BP Double album,The Black Album) declined (Kingdom Come) and then just rode his strengths (American Gangster). Jay’s not gonna get any better.
I look at Fat Joe and Lil Wheezy like they used PED’s( Big Pun, Triple Seis and Gillie Da Kid, respectively) and their lyrical “growth” is/was suspect.
Wheezy has perfected flows but don’t really say shit. Fat Joe is like Brady Anderson, hot for a season or so but not as good as he thinks he is.
