“Trilla†is fucking horrible. After a couple listens, I could appreciate like 50% of “Port of Miamiâ€. This shit, not so much. It’s not the lyrical redundancy either, cuz I expected that going in (pause). But if hear LCD rap (c) Bol, I at least think I’m gonna get dope production. But nope. Each track (with the exception of Maybach Music, Luxury Tax, and Boss, yea I said it Boss) each song is a fucking mess, that I honestly couldnt listen to all the way thru. Shit sandwich.
—————-
cosign to the fullest. that cd was dookey. but those songs are magnificent. I bumped boss for a week str8… gave the subs a good workout
Really, I just want it so I can look like the flash fucker when I’m out and about in the city. I coulnd’t give a shit about what it does. I’m shallow as a muh’fucker.

what can say, guess i’m a slave to “nigga technology” (c) Samuel L.
Knowing my luck, I won’t take out the insurance and I’ll get stabbed in the neck and robbed within 3 days of having it.
^ youre prolly right. i was ready get someone for that shit… id made the decision that i wanted one, but coming out $400 wasnt in the cards.

you cant get insurance on an iphone. If you get got, you just get got
>>>nope. look, Weezy cant even come up with decent songs for his most anticiapted album(even after being pushed back) which shows he’s inconsistent.
^I take it that you don’t like lollipop? Well how would your first single sound? I fuck with that song to the fullest, I knew it was a hit when I first heard it, if you think that’s a bad look for a single in this day & age your tripping, the drought is over 3 was hot, & that was suppose to be his album, but majority of his songs got leaked, that’s why they always pushing his album back
>>>>Some1 like jay-Z comes up with a damn near classic after just watchin a movie.
^True, but Jay-Z is the G.O.A.T so what would you expect?
crooked eye is another manifestation of 1990’s music. It’s been overdone and saturated. His style has no relevance.

Ok glad you asked. Crooked eye has a golden age rap era type flow. The multisyllabic words, combined with heavy lyricism. We have heard that style for a long long time. The point being is that the style is saturated to the point that we as a rap society have already deemed who the best of that style is. We as a rap culture have moved past that into a whole new era.
It’s Like making 70’s r&b and fitting it into the pop culture of today’s time. It’s just not going to work. You can’t recreate a sound that has been over and done with.
Not saying the crooked I is not dope/nice, Just saying that his sound is outdated and it has rested in Peace. Meaning he wont sell a lot of records or will create a buzz in other regions besides his own.
Just like Joell ortiz. He’s recreating a flow/style/sound, that is over and done with. That New York style has already rested in Peace with the greats.
If you’re gonna be a throwback, you have to bring in something new and fresh with it to display a new movement.
They made mixtapes back then. There was no internet to leak them. you had to get them in the mom and pop record stores. I still have the original nas I am around here somewhere. the original I am was composed of half the songs on the Lost tapes album.
>If you think Jay-Z really went in and recorded AG after being inspired by the movie, you lost.
^Why wouldn’t I think that, he named the album after the movie, besides “ignorant shit” all the material was brand new & went with the storyline of the movie, he was gonna make another album reguardless, but he prolly didn’t have a idea about the direction of the album till he seen AG

nah, every now and then, if someone does it right, its cool to bring back an old sound/style with a new twist on it.
i think joell is doin a good job.
I knew about mixtapes back then, The clue’s, DMX vs Canibus, original “I am” (which is a fucking classic) etc, I still have the original clue with Drag-on & Juvenile “Down bottom” on there, it also had a ill fabolous sport free on there and canibus “1000 bars” on there, I think someone copy/paste one of my comments & responded or some crazy shit, but I knew about mixtapes back then, but co-sign your comment, you just had to go find dem shits back then

After KC, Jay knew that being a “mature” MC wasnt going to work for him. Whether that is due to him losing some of his flair/desire or fans are stupid is up for you to decide. The bottom line is, he had to come back with some gangsta shit. The movie was just a vehicle to attach it to so he wouldnt get caught with the “hey, you’re the CEO of Def Jam, you’re not moving weight!”. Jay: ” I know…its a CONCEPT album”. If it wasnt the movie he would’ve found another way.
With that said, I will state again :
If you think JayZ made AG after being inspired by the movie you lost.

he means actually havin talent on the mic is (90s,played out)…hence swag and “delivery†. In that case Jeezy is the best?
***
Talent is not defined. Talent is dependent on the Era of music. Talent does not exist independently and hold criteria within it’s own self. Talent can be swag and delivery, to those who hold the ideas and dominate the music. Talent can be lyricism, to those who dominate music. Right Now the dominators of music don’t share the same views as you do in the form of making rap music. There’s is sort of a class conflict going in. The undertakings of rap music has taken formed where the ruling class of rap and lost it’s power and is now in complain mode.

what about when everyone uses 70’s soul/R&B samples to make beats?
^^^
Memories…I remember my brother came home from Hagerstown (all my DMV heads know what I’m talking about) I played him that and he was like…”naw, these dudes are wack” Just goes to show that music is generational. It’s just like when I taught 7th grade and the kids kept trying to tell me Paul Wall was that dude. Well…to them he was. And who can say who’s right or wrong when your’re dealing with art?
it’s funny how bay area artists were doing compilations back in ‘96… the dj clue’s and GL’s come in the picture, someone decides upon the misnomer “mixtape” and suddenly it’s a east coast centric thing.
With that said, I will state again :
If you think JayZ made AG after being inspired by the movie you lost.
^Well i’ma lost mu’fukka, So your saying he was gonna make songs like “Blue Magic” “American Dreaming” “American Gangster” “Party life” w/o seeing the movie? I know he was gonna make another album & he prolly wanted to take it back on some gutter shit, but I still feel the movie gave him ideas & motivation to come up with those lyrics, flatout, I can’t see it no other way
okay okay.. Good point.. I can see what you sayin.. and I kinda wanna agree, but I don’t.. I for one prefer (and still rock out and vibe to) my OB4CL, Enta Da Stage, It Was Written, My 36 Chambers, my IronMan, Muddy Water, All Eyez on Me, Chronic, Dare iz A Darkside, Most Beautifullest Thing, etc and the list goes on waaaay more than anything that has come out prob’ly in the last 6-8 years
just my take…
Still and all you presented a good with strong support for your contention

True, but note The exact same music is not being recreated. Remember I said if you’re going to bring in a throwback, you have to display it with something new. It’s 70’s r and b with a twist. Hence a New sound, with a faster drum, cut and pasted to recreate a new movement.
But Notice it’s not the same exact same. It’s a new form that takes shape. The era and the style is different. People are not singing on those beats, they are formatting words to a defined pattern to create a new movement and style, in what we call rap.

^^^
If the Bay started that in ‘96, then the classic Bad Boy mixtape (’95?) precedes it. That’s the format that I think Clue and the rest ran with. No shots at the Bay. I like chicks on E as much as the next man…
They started when the culture started. Personally, I was picking up Doo Wop, Red Alert, Pete Rock and Kid Capri “mixtapes” (cassette tapes featuring the sections of their radio shows where they mixed for 30 or 60 minutes) in 1991. We couldn’t hear the shows in London any other way. A TDK with a 60 minute Kid Capri mix on there was worth £15, 17 years ago!
True, but note The exact same music is not being recreated.
^^
and thats why i think artists like crooked I or joell ortiz have appeal (-).
they are have a flow similar to the early 90’s west and east coast, but its not the same as what was coming out then.
but i see what you’re saying.

I totally agree with you. I mostly listen to what I consider the best music. Like those you named. I just consider to call them an older form of rap. I see nothing wrong with a new era taking place, I just prefer to listen to those all those that you named. Just like My parents prefer to listen to the music of their era.

I think he made Blue Magic and American Gangster (I dont see what about Party Life and American Dreaming directly relates to being inspried by AG, but I digress) after he realized that the movie was going to be his vehicle by which to keep rapping about selling dope. There’s no way to know for sure, i just tend not to give jay the benefit with shit like this.
The first Funkmaster Flex studio album “60 minutes of funk” came out in like 93-94 or something like that, & it was the first time the world got a chance to hear Big Pun
>> I wonder what his endgame is with this huge internet push he’s been orchestrating over the past few months.
I think it dates back to the Cam beef. he saw that the internet ate up that whole shit, starting from the ripped Hot 97 phone calls, to the disses to the videos. the blogs and MySpace pages were benefiting too much and 50 Cent didn’t see a Cent and took a lyrical thrashing for it

For the Past 75-years to a century Teen to young adult music has defined the era of Music, or what style sound of music should be made or what they like.
Music can be explained like a basic science principle.
So when your kids get older, they will be saying the exact same thing like. Man Young Joc was hot, but these dudes called Lil zippos are trash. What has this music world turned into.
I remember the day the hip hop awards came on & he performed this song, no lie, it felt like the world stopped for 3:46 seconds, my phone was ringing off the hook, even the weezy haters said he killed that shit, the ones that missed it was extremly mad. Only if he held on to this song until his album came out, alot of naw sayers would be singing a different tune.
Ya Weezy Killed it live when I went to go see him. His Following is a mix of people thats why I think he will do ok whenever he drops. He Killed the Dey Know remix ……………
So when your kids get older, they will be saying the exact same thing like. Man Young Joc was hot, but these dudes called Lil zippos are trash. What has this music world turned into.

this is true. but unfortunately kids today are fucking idiots. (except for the kid that threw rocks at soulja boy)
So when your kids get older, they will be saying the exact same thing like. Man Young Joc was hot, but these dudes called Lil zippos are trash. What has this music world turned into.
Our parents said the same thing about our music.
===============================================
That’s a different thing.
Our parents don’t understand the music. They don’t understand the culture. It was all new and all alien. What we are talking about here is a sub-culture… I understand the music, I understand these new dudes. It’s Hip Hop. But it’s clueless, artless, unoriginal corporate bullshit. The new Fat Joe album was so devoid of inspiration (except for a KRS appearance and a Preemo beat) I almost shed a tear. When did the dude from the Represent album become a wannabe Hot Boy?
And it’s not about simplicity. Simplicity can be hugely creative. Beats and rhymes… a DJ looping a break… at it’s core, that is simple. It’s just the copy cat rhymes, copy cat subject matter, everybody doing the same thing-type shit that grates. It’s all about money these days. You’re a hustler, he’s a hustler. You’re rich, he’s rich. Blah blah blah. I remember when I could hear a beat, or some scratching, and it would be a signature sound. I could tell during the intro that this is new BDP, new Gang Starr, new Mobb Deep, new Geto Boys. Now, it’s all the same.
Bad music is bad music. Doesn’t matter how old I am.

Man, you ever seen Pac with that gumby doing the interview at the School at Performing Arts? Or the tape he and Jada made dancing at Adventure World make-a-video? Or the fact that John Singleton said they had to keep re-filming Pacs fight with Joe Torry in Poetic Justic, because Pac couldnt pull it off? Im not saying Pac was a fag, I’m just not saying he wasnt. MegaPause.

A ninja who knows a ninja, who knows a ninja who used to work at Tower Records, whose brother did a bid with Afeni Shakur’s OBGYN told me that Sugar Bear and ‘Pac would play Doctors and Nurses. Pac liked to be “cuddled roughly” and have objects placed up his ‘Khyber Pass’.

I jusst cyan’t see the Great Black Frank White uttering “pause” after spitting such bars.. it would greatly detract from his raw gutter idgaf dopeness
I can’t front, I have to agree with 2x, there’s no comparison between Pac & Wayne, you can’t call a man gay unless you have proof, & we have proof of wayne kissing baby, flatout, lord knows how many times they did it behind closed doors. The admitted to kissing more than once, Pac never admitted to kissing anyone so, your whole arguement is pointless.
BEFORE MARRIAGE

John - NO! Don’t even think of it.

Jane - Have you ever cheated on me?
John - NO! Why are you even asking?
Jane - Will you kiss me?
John - Every chance I get!
Jane - Will you hit me?
John - Heck no! Are you crazy?
Jane - Can I trust you?
John - Yes
Jane - Darling!

I never said Wayne hasnt done some extremely gay shit. I brought up Pac because he also had some extremely gay moments (extremely) and joe88 used Pac as an example of someone that wouldnt have tolerated Weezy’s homoness.

The gay thing kind of bristles people’s feathers, but since baby is wayne’s daddy I think people were willing to let that go on some father/son shit.
The nature of their relationship can be justified lightly and loosely by it, but it still ruffles people’s feathers. Now I think they were doing it cause of some mob boss type shit they saw. That’s what I heard, I dont know if that’s true but I think they coped it, of some mafia family or something.
Now when people talk about the wayne baby thing, they only bring it up to Discount wayne’s prowess in the game. People wouldnt never feel such a way about it if lil wayne wasn’t perceived by a lot as the best in the game right now.
Now if you’re a 50 cent stan, you are going to throw all the ammo at all the lil wayne stans because 50 has a problem with lil wayne being on top or having the most buzz right now. That’s the nature of Rap. X a person out the game anyway you can. It’s survival of the fittest in the rap game. It’s built loosely on street principles, so I understand the nature of the game.

4. The Mafia have never been known to KISS ON THE MOUTH…. and don’t bring up the “Godfather”..that was just a movie..and he did it because he was gonna murk his brother…In the HISTORY of the MAFIA, there has never be known to KISS OTHER MEMBERS IN THE MOUTH……..

Aside from a few tracks on The Carter II, Tha Mobb and what have you, I don’t particularly like Wayne’s music. I think he does his thing, and he tries to set trends rather than follow them, so he’s no villain of Hip Hop to me, but I don’t support the dude in any way, shape or form.
But the kissing his daddy issue, the kid is not gay for that. I haven’t shook my fathers hand in a minute, never mind put my lips to the dude, but Wayne and Baby are acting out some Mafia fantasy, not a homo-erotic one. They think they are bosses, and that is some respectful, “blood is thicker than water”-type shit to do. They think they are showing love. It’s misguided, and sad. But those dudes are not cockboys.

^^Nah…even on a father and son tip, that’s more like incest! I could care less about Wayne’s success personally. Being the most popular doesn’t make you the best. Wayne is getting his shine right now, and that’s good for the kid because he’s been doing it for a minute now. It’s all about personal preference when it comes to judging his skill level though.
You take away all of the fame, money, videos, cars, clothes, jewelry, etc. and you are left with a man. If u walked into a mall parking lot and saw two strange men giving each other a kiss, you wouldn’t think “yeah, they on some mafia type shit”…you’d say they must be gay. That’s all most folks did when they saw the pic of Wayne and Bird lip locking…
^^
if 50 or Jay kissed another man on the lips they would get thrown under the bulldozer. but weezy stannery is on some peculiar sh*

Mixtapes were a New York thing.

===============================================

The admitted to kissing more than once, Pac never admitted to kissing anyone so, your whole arguement is pointless.

Jane - Have you ever cheated on me?
John - NO! Why are you even asking?

Jane - Will you hit me?
John - Heck no! Are you crazy?

I never said Wayne hasnt done some extremely gay shit. I brought up Pac because he also had some extremely gay moments (extremely) and joe88 used Pac as an example of someone that wouldnt have tolerated Weezy’s homoness.
and joe, i wont bring up Pacs name again in this light. Shooting two redneck cops overrides the fact that he may have been a cocksmoker. (NH of course)
