Singer Suffers Spinal Injury In Auto Crash in Philadelphia

Teddy Pendergrass, the rock singer, was hospitalized here today for spine injuries after he crashed his Rolls-Royce into a tree on a winding highway in the Germantown section.
Mr. Pendergrass, 31 years old, and his passenger, Tenika Watson, 31, were trapped in the auto 45 minutes after the 1:30 A.M. accident. He was taken to a center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for treatment. Miss Watson was released after treatment at a hospital.
The police said there were no indications of drug or alcohol use. Mr. Pendergrass became prominent in 1971 as the lead singer with the Blue Notes.
