[...] Bronx rapper, Mickey Factz, recently caught major feelings from Nah Right’s Eskay when he was classified as a hipster rapper. He went to great pains to categorically reject the notion as did the Kidz In The Hall when confronted with that same notion. Lord knows an aspiring rapper wouldn’t want to be associated with white upper middle class douche bags in thick black framed glasses (Full Disclosure: I wear black framed glasses quite regularly, myself) even though they are often fond of those same thick black framed glasses himself. Hipster rap has become short-hand in recent times for a retro aesthetic that leans on a late ‘80s/early ‘90s sound and culture. The Cool Kids, Wale, The Knux, Jay Electronica, Lupe Fiasco, MickeyFactz and the Kidz In The Hall all have an aesthetic and style that leans heavily on what is being dubbed as “hipster rap.” Pretty much all of them hate it. Things is, though, what do you do if your fans are all hipsters but you don’t jock trends? I remember going to old Spank Rock shows in Bodymore and it was a mixed crowd, but now he caters to the skinny jeans posse, probably cuz that was the gateway to fame. But look at the Clipse, since they already been brought up. You see em perform in NYC and the only black people up in that bitch will probably be up on the stage, gangster shit or not. If I’m a performer and I’m making paper and feeding my kids and building houses and shit, can I really afford to give a fuck if my fans are gentrifying, trend-humping douchebags or not, especially if I’m making the same kinda music I been making before blogs/Myspace/Pitchfork/etc.? And, on the flip, how the fuck can an experimental nigga get national black radio play–>access to larger venues with neither payola nor gimmicky bullshit?

I’m not gonna lie, even in this dead-out first quarter I don’t click hipster rap links. They could be the best shit ever but I’m so sure they’ll all be making rock-rap when that cross-over kicks in again. There’s something about Cool Kids etc. that just screams “We love The Clipse”. ^^No doubt. Personally I’d go for the Loch Ness Monster because no doubt I would then have a Monster penis which I could then use to dominate other monster wenches or even Eskay’s moms. Plus I’d then be able to coil myself around my own johnson and bat myself off which doesn’t sound like a bad gig if you’ve got a few minutes spare on a Saturday morning.
