Okay now.
Anyone who know me, they know me to ride
But when the shit was selling slow it’s just my homies and I.
Had to get rid of all the phonies and the homies disguised.
So you speaking, I don’t reply, homie don’t be surprised
You ain’t gotta ride for me, I didn’t ask you to.
Take the journey on my own, I would gladly do.
You gon’ and turn around now, I’ll call a cab for you.
I stand up on my own 2, he kiss the ass of who.
No way Jose, we pour Rose’, blow dro, that’s more than okay.
See but don’t say, my folk, they flip more yay than Cirque de’ Soleil.
Keyser Soze, oh they kill people and get off like OJ.
You catch your case, just shut your face, don’t get caught singing do, re,
Mi, fa, say, la, ti, do, ghetto hero, G-code I obey.

I’m more inclined to attribute it to the demise of the “single”. Internet wouldnt have popped off so fast if people were still able to buy songs for a dollar at the store. there are a lot of causes tho, a perfect storm of dumb ass decisions by the recording industry.
NIN did ridiculous #’s releasing their shit online, Im inclined to say Hip-Hop fans wouldnt do anything remotely close to what Rock Fans do,
Rock Stans > Rap Stans …..Oxymoron I think
Yo Has anybody incountered Lupe’ stans? They’re quite ridiculous even more so than G-Unit Dickriders, Cuz Unit Riders are usually retarded. But what is a Lupe’s stan excuse?
I’m more inclined to attribute it to the demise of the “singleâ€.
^Singles died around the time blend cd game got popular, why would I spend 2 to 4 beans for 4 songs, when I can get all the current hot singles from all the hot artist on the “Hot 97″ mixtape joints for 5$?
very little good music. nothing I wanna hear more than once. but yeah it’s slightly possible with some.

nah. wack music is to blame. fans began seeing through the fakeness in hip hop and stopped caring about the music, cuz they realized the artists don’t care about the music and will do and say anything to sell a million records. fans started downloading to take back control

I’m not a fan of his music but i’d like to see him succeed just to see people’s reactions lol.
and even through alot of the wackness I can tell he really enjoys what he does and cares about his music.
but nah, he won’t go platinum. check my post early in the previous thread
I think sales declining for wack music is an excuse. The internet was the sole cause, because downloading is just a form of bootlegging. And Jay-z was getting heavily bootlegged, When Blueprint came out.
People have always wanted their music for a cheaper price and if possible for free. Jay had to move up the date for his albums when the bootleggers got it. No matter how good the music is, people will still download it.
If downloading was available during the 60’s. People would have done the exact same thing. Hell Metallica went on a campaign about dont download music and it backfired. It wasn’t like metallica wasnt selling platinum album either.
People just want shit free these days. Even Movies are getting downloaded and its not because wack movies are made. People just want shit free.
nah. wack music is to blame. fans began seeing through the fakeness in hip hop and stopped caring about the music, cuz they realized the artists don’t care about the music and will do and say anything to sell a million records. fans started downloading to take back control
^^
if that was the case only rap sales would be going down. any other genre that might not have been diluted is suffering all the same.
I believe that most music fans could careless whether their favorite artist goes platinum or oak wood if the music is dope. At this point most rappers are barely making social worker money and soul singers for that matter. There’s been a new e-sheriff in town for awhile now, and his name is “Free Downloads”… I’m sure you’ve heard of him. He’s running this internet sh*t!

Wayne doesn’t have a cult following, he’s a fad right now. Much like 50 when he 1st dropped or even No Limit Records…
Now DOOM on the other hand…
actually what do I know? I just think that a cult following is classified as when even after that artist has made a wack cd (*cough* Wu), the fans still think everything they do is great. See: stannery

How bout BOTH sides are right???? Its a COMBINATION of the TWO which is why the current state is so bad, with just a FEW extremely CROSSOVER exceptions.
seriously though… justin timberlake, alicia keys… etc… these arent good examples because of the markets they reach and their crossover appeal between genres / demographics etc.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
how much did these albums sell?
- prodigy - return of the mac
- freeway - free at last
- scarface - made
- ghostface - big toe rehab
DOPE albums, but minimal sales. quality has nothing to do with it.
^^^
Quality has everything to do with it if the records is actually promoted. It’s not a coincidence that none of the above albums had videos (with the exception of Scarface) or promotion (none of them was on my local radio station or 106/TRL). Good music will sell if mufuckas are actually aware that it’s out.
you cats talking about timberlake and alicia keys sales.
these artists have a more mature audience which is a) less familiar with illegal downloads, and b) still used and inclined to having music on cd’s so they can play it on their stereo or car system.

Quality to who though? Understand this is a new generation of hip hoppers. These albums what have sold millions 96-02 but understand us hip hop heads are few and far between now. Here’s a sad story, my uncle who’s about 40 somethin is in his second childhood. He listens to Plies and uses the word “goon” frequently. I just shake my head when I see him.
How do you think them dudes that still rock “flat tops” feel? There’s one in every city…
its proof that good music, genuine music can still sell. people will pay for real good shit.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Not in hip hop, lol. But for real, to do amazing numbers, everything gotta be in place, the planets gotta be lined up.
Must haves on selling alot of records
1) You need excelent promotion i:e T.I promo when “King” came out, he was on every magazine cover, had a movie coming out, a hot single, hot video, hot mixtape holding his street buzz & was on hella remixes
2)You need a good original album i:e 50 cent “GRODT” Great production, his style was original, co-sign by Dre a legend, & Em a white guy, nuff said (lol, j/k) not the most complicating lyrics, music from the heart, & music you can dance too
3)You cannot push back your street date, the fans will get restless
4)Drop your album before the buzz from you hot single dies i:e Plies, when “shawty” came out, the label aint waste no time releasing his album, mofo was wondering how he sold so many records
Yeah that’s bout it, & a co-sign from major players wont hurt either
March 18th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

So how do we explain TI?? I dont think he’s a fluke, I just think he’s a got a label that actually puts the nessessary amound of $ behind him to garner decent sales.
Quality has everything to do with it if the records is actually promoted. ^^
ok i’ll give you the promotion aspect but still, that doesnt explain the declining sales of say jay-z albums. also, heavily promoted music tends to be garbage. illmatic, the infamous, only built etc. had very little promotion.
nah. wack music is to blame. fans began seeing through the fakeness in hip hop and stopped caring about the music, cuz they realized the artists don’t care about the music and will do and say anything to sell a million records. fans started downloading to take back control

yeah everybody’ suffering. but rap is the only genre thats been shoved in people’s faces the hardest for the last few years. we’ve watched it go from just being labeled a “fad” and “nigger music” to taking the country by storm to NWA to the Golden Era to Pac and Big to to 50 Cent to ringtone rap
we’ve watched it’s every incarnation and its now its reached passed it’s peak of creativity as a whole genre (minus many artists of course)
damn i was on the phone i lost my train of thought

Thats not really true.
Pete Rock’s fans are older than the average Justin fan.
Must haves on selling alot of records
1) You need excelent promotion i:e T.I promo when “King†came out, he was on every magazine cover, had a movie coming out, a hot single, hot video, hot mixtape holding his street buzz & was on hella remixes
^ i thought King sales were lower than anticipated? can anyone confirm? eskay? nation? shanti?
ALL music sales are down. Its just not rap. It’s not so much quality. There is only 1 Justin Timberlake and one Alicia Keyes. There are always going to be exceptions.
If kanye dropped Graduation in 99 he would have been 5 times platinum by now. As a whole music is getting downloaded.
All those albums that your parents and your grandparents lost. They ask you “can you download that for me”. The Compact disc is a thing of the past. People are able to get music for free.
Promotion wont help anyone sell records, if they already dont have the crowd following. No record company is going to spend money on someone just so they can sell 20,000 more records.
Really how much is promotion going to help someone sell? 100k at most?
“So this is the guy Clifford borrowed his life story from huh.” please tell me the line is a JOKE! what did he sell first week cardboard? im all about sales dont mean the quality of music but this is guy is whack! dey know was a banger, but if you listen to the lyrics, i couldve put that together and i dont know what sixteen is! no comparison the TI! yall betta listen to trap musik! his first album was slept on, listen!

Quality has everything to do with it if the records is actually promoted.

200K= Gold in 98
