?uestlove explains:
"This drawing is entitled NEGRO RULE. and it pretty much sums up the feeling of the Confederate Union towards the newly freed slaves and the idea that if given power they would reek havoc and chaos on the country."

@ Killuminatti
i haven’t been in TO in five years, so i’m not sure what caribana is like now…last one i went to (in like 2000 maybe?) was pretty dope though. the police are always out in full force any time there’s a large gathering of black people, you should see a hip hop concert…
and sauga = mississauga. scarborough is the other side of TO.

film festival is open to the public on Sept 6th, caribana’s website says “un-official dates are June 15th to August 3rd, 2008″. they should have official dates posted soon.

the original picture had a quote that read ‘THE VAMPIRE THAT HOVERS OVER NORTH CAROLINA’(NEGRO RULE). in that time and era, it was a political jab at the republicans. created by josephus daniels(who was raised in a confederate fam. and purchased the democratic newspaper) and norman jennett(supporter of the dem party) who drew all the illustrations for the newspaper during the 1898 elections. pics were from a raleigh, north carolina newspaper printed for the september 27th 1898 edition of NEWS AND OBSERVER. showed/shows the mindstate of white people.
