Some people like fruity pebbles and smacks, and some people like Captain crunch and cinnamon toast crunch….And others prefer corn flakes and grape nuts….
I’m just glad there is cereal….and I’m just glad that there is music that I like.

There IS no best rapper. Just favorite rappers.
Other than that…
The cereal analogy was one of the funniest things I’ve read on NR for some reason. The sincerity in the last line was priceless…

***Exactly…but I guess, @ one angle, it’s better for the masses to read garbage than nothing at all- these rapper scribed books are no worse than celebrity autobiographies, or pulp fiction novels…besides, with no rapper books, we wouldn’t have “the World According to Pretty Toneyâ€, lol
^^^
I don’t have a problem with hip-hop lit, street lit, hood lit, whatever you want to call it. There was, and will be, always a place for that in black literature period. But my issue is that publishers, major publishers, are only publishing black books like this or like Black erotica because the shit sells. It’s retarded. Black people read more than that. If you look at Toni Morrison, BeBe Moore Campell (RIP), hell even Terry McMillian…they could WRITE. Ninjas can’t write anymore

The cool isnt that bad it’s just not as cohesive…But there are more than a few good songs on there. Sometimes his lyricalism gets in the way of actually creating music…But His flow is very listenable….

Even though it has a higher percentage of weaker songs, I dont think the best songs on F&L are as dope as the best songs on The Cool.
====
for me the good songs on the Cool get better with each listen, but the weaker songs have gotten worse for me or remained stagnant. there’s a handful of tracks on it that are straight snoreville!

I never saw anything wrong with what lupe said about tribe….Does he have to listen to them?
… when your performing a tribute to them than yes, if you don’t listen to them don’t accept the invitation and forget the words, also if it wouldn’t be such a big deal if his whole style didn’t sound like a direct descendant of tribe, see : Paris, Tokyo …
___________________________________________________________
I dont think he is a direct descedant of them….He has a mellow pattern of making rap music, but I dont think it’s similar to Tribe…
I think people associated him with tribe cause there are some external similarities….But tribe music has been in existence before them and many people have made mellow rap songs…
It’s like Uncle murder and MOP are similar, in that they are consider loud hardcore rap, but I neccessarily would say they are the same or a direct descendant….

@ CiCi- my favorite authors are John Edgar Wideman and Marita Golden, so I gotta co-sign…black lit has lost a step- half of the book covers either have some nigga with dice and a gun, with a title like “da game done gone bad”, or some chick in a bikini, “the baller’s jumpoff”…I thought Kenji Jasper “Dark”, “Dakota Grand” was a standout in the genre, though…
@ Fux- they’re giving your boy Nick Young some props, for his game last night….(none)
