The (t-h) sound has always been reduced to da in african american vernacular english…It’s always been part of our dialect…The th sound has been dropped because it takes less effort to pronounce Da….In pronouncing the (th) the tip of your tongue uses more muscles to pronounce it…In pronouncing “Da”….Your tongue reaches the roof of your mouth and extends forward slightly and has considerable less effort…

The “th” sound is hard for other countries to pronounce that is why you hear foreigners say “ting for thing”…In earlier books african americans could not say the “th” sound as well so they had to compensate and say da…which is easier to say and thus they wrote their words phonetically..

Newspaper Report: NY Governor Involved With Prostitute

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has publicly apologized for acting inappropriately, but has not specify the actions. From VOA’s New York Bureau, correspondent Barbara Schoetzau reports the Governor’s comments follow a New York Times article linking him to a prostitution ring.

Last week, federal prosecutors in New York charged four people with running a high priced prostitution ring that catered to wealthy American and European clients. Some of the prostitutes charged as much as $5,500 per hour and their bodies could be viewed on the Internet in advance.

Now the New York Times is reporting that prosecutors have a wiretap of Governor Spitzer making arrangements with a prostitute. In a brief statement, Spitzer neither confirmed nor denied the report, referring only to a “private matter.”

“I have acted in a way that violated my obligations to my family and violated my or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first, and most importantly, to my family. I apologize to the public whom I promised better,” he said.

New Yorkers and political observers were stunned by the news. Spitzer, a Democrat, swept into office as governor in 2006 after eight years as a crime busting, headline winning attorney general, taking on organized crime, white collar crime on Wall Street and also prostitution rings. He was known as “Mr. Clean,” but was also sometimes criticized as self-righteous and moralistic. As governor, he has had a contentious relationship with the Republican-led State Senate and has had to back down on several proposals.

Because so many folks don’t take Hip-Hop seriously when Hip-Hop ,as a culture, has saved AND ended so many lives. Hip-Hop and Jazz are the ONLY truely American art forms than happen to have been created by Black folks. And because Black life (ESPECIALLY Black Men) is devalued, Hip-Hop IS devalued and Jazz was once devalued. It’s a cultural struggle at it’s roots.

And PLEASE cool out with the big words(nebulous). I went to PUBLIC school. lol

True its subjective but it can combined into qualitative and quantifiable data, because there is a sociological context that is applied to hip-hop that is macro-subjective in nature that basic scientific priniciples apply to.

As emile Durkheim applied positivism to a social context with experiment and results, we too can apply it to “hip-hop”…

We can’t “lose” Hip-Hop because, just like the griots of West Africa, the story of Hip-Hop will live on as oral history. Just as the story of the eagle and the tourtise has survived thousands of years, so will “Poetry”. Hip-Hop has as much value as the beholder. When my son was born, I held him,whilst playing “Fear Of A Black Planet”. I taught him “Peter Piper” and “Eric B. is President” as opposed to nursery rhymes. I tought my daughers how to write their names in graffiti. When I discuss Hip-Hop with those who don’t know, I NEVER allow them to ridicule it. I always say,”Poeple FEAR and HATE what they don’t understand”, and that usually shuts them up. I take Hip-Hop seriously around those who don’t know, but I could clown in here because most folks here are “in” on the joke.

Okay. YOU don’t value the culture. But, thankfully, the culture’s survival doe NOT depend EXCLUSIVELY with you or me. There are folks out there that feel as you do, but I’m quite sure that there are MORE that feel as I do. I value the music, but the culture and I co-exist physically,..Internally the culture represents a part of my existence mentally…It does not define who I am, and how I process and think….My existence is much important than a collective spirit of a blip called hip-hip, which is a part of the whole in Black music….

I gain what I put into it….that is either mentally or physically…The social force is only in the roots of a generation or two, it does not hold ransom my existence or being in nature….Therefore I step back and process what all this means….

I view the culture and appreciate it for what it is, but it is not the definition of a black man, there hip-hop is a sacred painting on my wall that I preserve..

I CAN say. proudly, that Hip-Hop PARTIALLY defines me, because it i s a part of me, but MORE important, I am a part of Hip-Hop. I embraced it, because, at times it was all I had. No emo, just truth. But my children define me, my CHARACTER defines me. No man is defined by ONE thing, IMO. Of course, there are folks in History who ARE defined by single acts but looking at a person’s life ,objectively, many things make up a human. My feelings, above all, are this:
Life is truly made up of Good memories and Bad memories. As long as you’ve had more good times than bad, you’re ahead of the game. Of course I CANNOT speak for all the folks who died in bondage, of things not of thier own doing and infants. I speak for me. And so far Hip-Hop has brought me more good memories than bad. So have my children, so far. Alot of shit has disappointed me, but not my culture….
