Well Rigz.. if no one is tellin you how mega isnt successful..
Tell us how he is..
Because that point eludes me
^^^
-He owns ALL of his publishing
-Puts out the music HE wants
-World renown / respected artist
-Two critically acclaimed albums
-All of he’s solo LPs cleared 100,000+ (INDEPENDENT MONEY with no promo)
-If you do the MATH, he’s probably made more money than most artists on majors
-Went independent & made it work BEFORE it was popular (Landspeed days, not Koch)
-He was one of the ONLY “street†independent NYC acts charting in 2001-2003 (with NO promotion)
-Has a nice, loyal fanbase (who BUY his music)
-He still sells records & has NEVER released an album on a major
-Can still tour & release records 12 years in the game

Joell Ortiz is a NICE MC but how do you market someone like him? If skills paid the bills, this would be a simple question. The kcufed up part is the “85ers” ain’t checkin’ for him. He SHOULD pull a Fugees and remake a familiar pop jawn to draw them in since the “mixtape” route has been raped, burned and buried. People need to hear his cat.

dude is a nerd
the whole industry used to do ballet and tapdancing and now they rap about shooting people and moving ki’s
whereas lupe was implicated in a major state-to-state heroin bust that put his best friend and mentor in jail, but now he raps about robots and shit
lupe doesn’t exactly fit the mold of what has been successful in the past
i know kanye ushered in a new sound but lupe is still different

Joell ortiz has a boring personality…He’s a little funny, but there is nothing about him that would make him standout…He’s gotta market himself in another way..We have seen a thousand joell ortiz’s in our lifetime….He’s good but we done seen it all….

____________________________________________________
Are you’re talking about disgusting as in looks?
Looks have nothing to do with rap…70% of the rappers look like extra-terrestrials…Truth is nobody wants to listen to a pretty nigga…Looks can help or aid, but it never is the thing that holds you over for a span of time…It’s your talent..
Big Sold, because he came and brought something New to the era….93-95, Is when a whole new style of rap change from the big breaths at the end of a rhyme to more modern, where the flow wasnt so choppy…
The public never seen a BIG before, he was fresh, new, wore the shades, had the flow….He dropped at a new Time and style for MC’s…
Its 2008…You cant be trying to rhyme like Big, or Jay or nas, and expect to sell now a days…Thats just the way of music…Styles come and go..You cant blame it on the people…Thats just the history of music

__________________________________________________________
People werent listening to these artist on lyrics alone….Half the people cant even recite a tribe or redman lyric..
Why they Sold…
Tribe– Laid back group with a mellow sound…q-tip brought a chill flare to the game….They had love grooves, and chill out music…Different from the rest of the music at that time..
Redman—Unorthodox style…Lyrically unorthodox, people thought he was a devil worshipper…Funny videos…A clown…smoked weed…People gravited to his style and sound.

Officers conducting surveillance work at an apartment complex spotted Taleon running up the building’s walls and turning back flips.
“The officers said, ‘We’re glad we’re not going after him,’ ” Kunkel recalled. “Lo and behold, after that, he began conducting open-air, hand-to-hand drug sales.”
Police arrested Taleon for possessing about a half-ounce of crack cocaine and a loaded .25-caliber automatic handgun. While handcuffed in the back of the moving car, Taleon smashed out the rear window by head-butting it, police said. He then dove through the window and its steel frame, causing $1,800 in damage, Kunkel said.
After landing on his face, Taleon rose to his feet and, while still handcuffed, fled on foot and into a nearby pond, police said.
“He swam across like Flipper, taunting the officers saying, ‘You’ll never catch me,’ ” Kunkel said.

and what’s good with you…and what up with the clothing line?…whats the advertising/marketing plan yall got?
February 27th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Mega is a good artist, but that goes to show you that Lyrics alone never sold Greatly…Not taking anything from him as a MC, but he relied mostly on his word play and content to connect people…..Definitely nothing wrong with that…
Not every artist is intended to connect with a mass amount of people..and not everyone wants that spotlight

Those folks be the “Rap music 85%ers”. Some folks just aren’t interested in “lyricalism”. That’s Hip-Hop’s parodox. Many of us who are smart and savvy enough to disect lyrics are also savvy enough to know where to find the music for free. Many of us aren’t interested in “image” or “marketability”, we are interested in who got that spit. SOME acts transcend this philosophy but MOST acts fall into this catagory. We USED to here the music before we saw the artist, now it’s the other way around. As soon as somebody figures out a way to pull these different pieces together AND make money off it, the sooner some body’s gonna be wealthy beyond his or her dreams.

Downloads killed the bootleggers….SMH at anyone buying a bootleg cd these days…You’re getting ripped off to the highest degree…
when You go into a music store and buy inside, the only thing you are purchasing now is the CD plastic and the Credits, and Maybe a slight better sound quality, other than that you’re getting ripped off.
