Let’s be real…every album “flopsâ€. That’s the lamest internet term next to “relevanceâ€. There were maybe 5 albums that didn’t flop last year, and then we base relevance off sales which makes no sense. Why do people even check soundscans anyways? It’s not like anyone on here is buying albums, really though, let’s think about who IS buying albums.
What do you guys think? Who really buys albums these days?
I wish there was a way to find a breakdown on who IS buying music these days…my guess is that it’s mostly people with bad taste in general who just try to keep up with what’s “cool”

Damn MTF – I wrote to 2 posts about the show you’ve been asking about , I went in real hard ( none ) and in depth too but I think the shit got ate up and moderated
idris elba played one of the top d.r.u.g. dealer….s in the show Russell †stringer †bell he is defintely on the short list of peoples favorite character from the show
I’m not writing my 5 season quick review again but the great part about the show is how real it is and how anyone and everyone can relate to something and or someone on it, each season adds a new in depth part of the city that plays a part in the poverty and violence and with each addition they make a seemless transition to not ignore previous storylines or characters, I try not too hard to tell people YOU MUST watch some thing cause I hate being told to but I can’t help it with this show if for nothing else than to raise the standards of TV, seriously do yourself a favor and rent or dowload the season you will thank us all for it
and those 3 things you were talking about are little prequels they added On Demand to †further explain †certain character and why they are the way they are, the show is the best ever at character development and is a a perfect example as a comedic tragic, cause it makes some crazy tragic events into humorous moments or at least finds some humor in them instead of making it too bleek and depressing
February 26th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
I think we need a new way of thinking…I wouldn’t even say that 25,000 in your first week is flopping unless it’s pretty apparent that your promotions aren’t covered (big budget video, ads everywhere, etc.).

February 26th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
also I’m tired of these artists flopped comment EVERYONE is catching bricks
Jay caught 2 bricks in a row 50 caught a brick the only one who didn’t was Kanye and thats cause they created fake hype and it was about people wanting 50 to retire like he promise he would ( what a shock he lied to us ) as much as them hearing the album, people all said Hell hath No Fury flopped but I read somewhere that at one point it was the most downloaded album ever ( I said one point mother fuckers be easy ) so does that still count as a flop ?
you people need to realize rap artist don’t make money of their albums they get their name out with albums albums are their own advertisments then they look to bank on touring, movie appreances, commericals product endorsement and all that
the term of record flopping or catching a brick needs to be retired because it can’t be applied to today’s hip-hop, especially when the best selling hip-hop album is barely hip-hop I mean I loved Graduation Day but that shit had like 2 or 3 straight hip-hop songs on it

the music industry as a whole and the consumption of retail cd’s in store was MUCH different landscape than it is now.. Not only that but you have to take into consideration who was co-signing the kid..
Having 50 behind him (figuritively and/ or literally- take your pick) makes/ made all the difference in the world…
Same way that 50 having Eminiem, who in turn had Dre, who in turn had Jimmy Iovine and Interscope/ whoever behind em also guaranteed that at the very least would get a STRONG push from their marketing/ branding arm etc etc..

bottom line, 50 or even Jay is never again going to drop another GRODT or Blueprint
music marks time, and that was those times for Jay & 50..
they were in totally different mindsets then, and that’s what pushed them to put out material like that…..
i can’t expect them to go back to that mindset, it’s almost impossible..

Damn Joe…don’t take what I said personal homie, of course some people who buy albums know whats going on.
We just need new numbers to evaluate who’s flopping.
It’s a new day out here. Remember when you’d take a chance on an album? You would go to the store to pick up one specific album and leave with 3 or 4 just to check the other ones out? I don’t think people are doing that these days. Remember when people would buy an album for a couple of tracks? Hell the fuck no that isn’t happening anymore.
I think if you have no promotion, no video, and you sell 50,000 you’re doing alright.
If you do the same numbers on a big budget, with all the big producers, big video, payola radio play, that might be a flop.
You can’t compare a newly released albums’ sales to an artists previous numbers. It doesn’t make any sense.
Sure, it helps in an argument on the internet to bring up sales, but just saying everything is flopping is foolish.

The Fix I can agree with, but we’re gonna call that an exception. “Trap Music” is just REALLY dope, not classic. That word gets thrown around too damn much.
Now, with that said, I co-sign 456. Unless I missed a classic Southern hip hop album thats been released since 2001, which i would be more than happy to admit to if somebody could give some examples.

Why is a company that sells counterfeit items sponsoring Nahright.com, or that used to?

I can dig it rex, I can agree with that. I remember those days (copping like 4 albums just because) & it’s not like that any more, I actually don’t care if my artist flop or not, a rapper isnt gonna just stop rapping to work the drive thru @ Mickey D’s, so I know i’ll hear some new shit from em, & maybe it’ll be better since he has a chip on his shoulder. Only # I knew about last years was KanYe, 50, & Plies, only reason I knew Plies # was because ninjas was surprised at how many units he moved in this day & age.
Bottom line: Joe88 don’t give a fuck if a artist sells, never have, never will, I actually want all my favorites to flop, the music is better when there broke (c) eskay

The standards have been set so low by these wack rapper that people call anything that alittle above average a classics. Neggas use the word classic within 2 days of hearing the album
