but even one album? makes u wonder
February 26th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Damn Joe…don’t take what I said personal homie, of course some people who buy albums know whats going on.
We just need new numbers to evaluate who’s flopping.
It’s a new day out here. Remember when you’d take a chance on an album? You would go to the store to pick up one specific album and leave with 3 or 4 just to check the other ones out? I don’t think people are doing that these days. Remember when people would buy an album for a couple of tracks? Hell the fuck no that isn’t happening anymore.
I think if you have no promotion, no video, and you sell 50,000 you’re doing alright.
If you do the same numbers on a big budget, with all the big producers, big video, payola radio play, that might be a flop.
You can’t compare a newly released albums’ sales to an artists previous numbers. It doesn’t make any sense.
Sure, it helps in an argument on the internet to bring up sales, but just saying everything is flopping is foolish.
__________________________________________________________
And classic album talk is garbage too…I think for an album to reach straight up classic status it needs a high approval rating across the board from most hip-hop fans. I understand “southern classic” “east coast classic” “underground classic” but just straight up “classic” is crazy. That’s the highest plateau…there might only be 30 classic albums in hip-hop’s history

aww fuck this shit…too many opinions on whats “classic†and whuts not a classic…so if anyone actually states a classic…its still that person own opinion of a classic…so whutever.
^^^
Exactly, music (and all forms of art/entertainment) is all subjective. I think “one man’s trash is another’s treasure” is the cliche. thats whats so ill and also frustrating about these type of discussions.
Was listening to College Dropout the other day and I think Late Reg def gets the edge. Dope fucking record. If any of Ye’s albums are classic, this is the one (IMO of course).
