456, if you cant see what I’m saying, your blind. You just dont WANT to like LL. I dunno why, he’s in the toop 3 shortlist for GOAT.
-LL was the FIRST hip-hop artist on MTV unplugged. Ever. He let other know it COULD be done.
-Nobody was flossing before LL. Who you think EPMD got it from? What 40 MCs did it b4 LL? Name 5…
-Yeah, battling always been around. But no-one ever had the gaul to say the shit LL was saying in I’m Bad. He was just challenging ANYONE. Thats never been done before.
-Nobody had confidence to rival LL. Thats what made him so unique.
-And I did mean fearlessness…Battling Kool Moe Dee & calling out Ice T for no reason is pretty fearless
-NOBODY was as young as LL & signed making hits. NOBODY.
-I Need Love wasnt garbage.
Like I said, you just dont want to like LL.
-Its Yours was an influence on LL…But LL did it better.
Could it be LL, Is just in your top 3. aint nothing wrong with saying LL is your favorite rapper, or in your personal top 3. Maybe all those reasons are the reason you like LL.
LL is nice, but for the last 5-6 years, dude hasn’t been making quality music. I like LL, but I gots to keep it real.
LL got his WHOLE style from T-La Rock (peep “It’s Yours” then peep “I Need A Beat”)
It’s hard to even compare Ra and LL because of their difference in style.
I WILL say that when LL came out, I was the embodiment of LL from the Kangol to the “banned” Jordans to the long skinny chain. When I was in the service and serving in Germany you could not tell me I wasn’t LL. LOL
Now, when Ra came out, he changed the WHOLE scope of M.C.ing, sounding like NO ONE before him. 5% teachings, multiply meanings in his bars, complex rhyme schemes and a swagger that is in effect til this day.
They very fact that LL and Ra are being discussed more than 20 years after their respective debuts speaks volumes about their influence in Hip-Hop.
I will say that LL KNEW who to battle.
I think KRS, BDK, and Kool Keith and Fresh Prince would have given LL more than he could handle battle-wise.
LL was intelligent enough to keep reinventing himself and remain relevent in Hip-Hop because Hip-Hop music is the only music viewed as disposable. This is because EVERYBODY mistakenly believes that they can “rap”. This creates an atmosphere of amateurism. The minimalism of Hip-Hop music, in it’s inception , can be viewed as a double edged sword. SOME folks forgot that imagination played a BIG part in the music, so instead of thinking, HOW can I take this loop, these lyrics and my voice and make distinct. Instead, it’s now, I got this loop, these lyrics and this computer so I’m a artist.
Only reason I’m having this discussion is because 456 said two things:
1. LL is nothing more than a wannabe Will Smith
2. LL has had no influence in hip-hop.
Both statements are pretty ridiculous to me.
I aint trying to say LL’s a better LYRICIST than Rakim. That would be stupid. I just think he’s better overall.
Everything Rakim has made since 92 has been subpar IMO.
>>I think KRS, BDK, and Kool Keith and Fresh Prince would have given LL more than he could handle battle-wise.
^^^
He battled BDK (on stage). No-one won, it was a draw. But LL is the illest battler ever IMO. He beat Kool Moe Dee (who was one of the best lyricists at the time)
He battled BDK (on stage). No-one won, it was a draw. But LL is the illest battler ever IMO. He beat Kool Moe Dee (who was one of the best lyricists at the time)
^^^
I didn’t know THAT. lol I was glad that LL, to a certian extent, resisted the “grimey” period. (“14 Shots To The Dome”, not withstanding) and always did his own thing. I also happen to believe that ‘Walking With A Panther” is his BEST album. While everyone else was following the “Black Power” trend(NO DISRESPECT to the TRUE PIONEERS of that time period) he was rapping about “Fast Peg”, 1-800- LL, and all things excessive and opulent. He caught heat for being 10-15 years too early. What ever happened to the “OWC”= Original Weed Carrier, Earl bka E-Love? lol
>>You got me there. I don’t know what the fuck i was thinkin’…Fubu football jerseys, fitteds, etc. However, my younger brothers are gonna be sayin’ the same thing about G-Unit in 5 years…

Yeah Kane was talking about it in Hip Hop Connection…He said it was a draw. It wasnt meant to even be a battle, It just ended up with them going rhyme 4 rhyme on stage.
He also said if he wasnt a MC himself, he’s happily give LL the GOAT title.lol. You know Kane’s too proud to say someone else is the GOAT.

RIgz,
Could it be LL, Is just in your top 3. aint nothing wrong with saying LL is your favorite rapper, or in your personal top 3. Maybe all those reasons are the reason you like LL.
LL is nice, but for the last 5-6 years, dude hasn’t been making quality music. I like LL, but I gots to keep it real.

February 24th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
I can agree that LL is a better overall Artist, when it comes to the whole aspect of things regarding music, and that Rakim is a better lyricist.
But as far as a better MC…I’m a go with rakim Allah
February 24th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
February 24th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
February 24th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

What ever happened to the “OWC”= Original Weed Carrier, Earl bka E-Love? lol

>>Blasphemy! LL had eveybody in my hood:
1 Wearin’ Fubu(LMAO @ those days)
2 foldin’ their pant leg up
3 writin’ rhymes that macked to the ladies
LL didn’t invent those things, as much as Snoop didn’t invent izzle, but he sure as fuck made i popular in the nineties.
Thats Hip hop.

NOBODY EVER MENTIONS LL as the GOAT EXCEPT FOR HIM
-ra is a periennial contender for the title even after his career as faded
- nas, a legit GOAT contender, made a song dedicated to ra and acknowledges him and kool g as his greatest influences
-jay name checks him on the reg and uses his flow on blue magic
-50 acknowledges him as his favorite mc growin up
-EVERYBODY uses his lines to this day
-many many mc create whole songs from his lines (mobb, eminem)
-his phrases are still common hiphop parlance:
“nobody’s smilin’”
“it aint where ya from, its where ya at”
“back to the lab”
“paid in full”
“nothin move but money” and on and on….

^I agree….but were talking about a dude that complains, screams, cries and whines at 75% – 80% calls that don’t go his way….
We saw his melt down against Lebron and Cavaliers last year in the Easter Conference Finals…
but as of today…and now…Rasheed Wallace scored all over the Suns…even Dantoni and Stoudemaire was giving ‘Sheed props….
February 24th, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Yeah but him complaining, screaming, and whining makes him no different than Tim Duncan, Dirk, Manu, Kobe, Pau Gasol, and 90% of the other “Star” players in the league.. He is the only Elite Star-Level player that almost NEVER gets the benefit of the doubt..
Word to Sheed gettin t’d up on the bench for simply LOOKING at a ref
