Like it or not, at the current time, America is one of the biggest, richest, and most powerful countries in the world… our entertainment game (as well as many other things) is top notch so many people tend to pay attention to the product being marketed here first, before looking outside the US for entertainment.

but what i think is interesting is that its difficult to have a pan europe star…all those markets are so cut up. its the same with africa. there are hot artists like skwatta camp in south africa or 2face in nigeria, but they get locked into their markets because of lack of distribution and language barriers. america is the only place that has the wealth, population and infrastructure to create “BIG” stars at the rate that it does. everybody else is basically locked into their local markets, unless america co-signs. the only exception to that is the spanish language artists who have all those south american and spanish speaking markets to work with.

I think you people are mistaking the general rap audiences acceptance for international rappers with the general music listeners in America’s acceptance for British and other European artists.
Tons of British singers, rock groups, pop acts ect have followings here and are widely accepted by their fans here.
When it comes to Hip Hop I’ve noticed acceptance for other International Hip Hop is pretty much non existent to a point. Maybe it’s the nature of the culture. Maybe it’s a lot of the ignorant listeners. But I guarantee you a pop r&b or Rock acts will be accepted in their respective genres before rap.

I already mentioned plenty of idiots from where I live that became multi-platinum artists in America. Many are way bigger than most American artists will ever be. Americans love Celine Dion and Shania Twain and Nickelback far more than anyone in the current top ten right now. In a climate where people can barely go gold, Nickelback have gone 7 times platinum on their latest album, putting out 7 singles (over half the album).

^^I’ve been subjected to enough media by all the artists I’ve mentioned to know that they’re morons, I’ve heard them speak. Smart people aren’t buying Soulja Boy albums, smart people also aren’t buying Nickelback albums. The Canadian artists all did well in Canada, because we have idiots too, but we also have laws requiring that 35% of all songs played meet strict “Canadian” guidelines. So they have to get played, and like you said, if people hear it enough, they’ll like it. Americans have no such excuse.

^^You’re right it’s not that serious, because I was joking. One of my favourite albums of late was the M.I.A. album. Not exactly rap, but definitely not American. That said, rap is an American art form mostly made by black people. The reason people don’t listen to foreign rappers is the same reason that they don’t listen to white rappers. Some can do it (Eminem), but for most it’s like learning to talk by reading a book, it’ll just come out sounding weird.
