M.O.P. Leave G-Unit
I don’t think this will come as a big surprise to anybody. AHH is reporting that Brownsville’s finest are leaving G-Unit after an unproductive three year stint at the label. Curtis basically took two of the most respected hardcore lyricists in New York hip-hop and shelved them because they couldn’t fit into one of those G-Unit wifebeaters.

Method Man on some shit, pullin niggaz files
***I thought he said “Method Man on some shit, so niggas call me the flyâ€- actually, I like that better than “pullin’ niggaz filesâ€, even if it’s incorrect….
***Good for MOP, by the way…I wonder if they’re gonna have rights to the material they recorded under contract, though…
February 7th, 2008 at 10:41 am
I hope they sign with Premo now!!!!

Hopefully MOP just goes back to doing their own thing. That “joining clicks/labels” thing hasn’t worked for really ANYONE. I say they should sign to Koch and let’er rip.
February 7th, 2008 at 10:44 am
LMAO @ The above picture - It looks like it was taken just after 50 told them….lol
Co-sign Icon Don - Glad they are off the unit - We might get an album now!!

**Co-sign- affiliation will only get you so far, especially if you’re a poor fit for the organization in the first place…that MOP collabo on Killer Mike’s album is ri-fuckin’-diculous (nhjic)….
February 7th, 2008 at 10:45 am
First the ROC then the Unit….MOP hopefully can just do their own thing and release some new material on their own.
February 7th, 2008 at 10:46 am
cosign foe.. unless you are already part of some crew, dont join one. and if you are already in one, look around and see your position.. because you’ll be on that same lane forever.
good morning gentlemen: bay bay, foe, crazy, busta, cold, plug, billz, etc

***at this point in their careers, I think they’re established enough to eat off of just putting out mixtapes and doing shows- MOP is a hard sell (none) for a label, which sucks, because they’re extremely talented…too bad they look like some mad scientist spliced A Tribe Called Quest’s DNA with Beebop and Rocksteady from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…

My favorite group of all time… and I was actually hoping Curtis was gonna Budden’d ‘em. Especially after the critical acclaim of “Big Boy Game”. But after Banks and others released albums without no sign of Billy and Fame, I knew this was coming.

Mash Out Posse took an L for even accepting this ish in the first place

DJ Premier currently owns two record labels. Year-Round Records was founded in 2002 and has so far released several DJ Premier mixtapes as well as 12-inch vinyl singles for NYG’z and Blaq Poet. Works of Mart, which is also the name of his publishing company since the early 1990s, was founded in mid-2006 and released 12-inch vinyl singles for Tef (aka Teflon) and FABID (H. Stax and Mike Rone) and a mixtape. In 2004, he took ownership the now-defunct legendary D&D Studios. After much-needed renovations, it was reopened as HeadQcourterz Studios, named for his fallen friend.

Wack, if he didn’t wanna risk too much tighten the budget. But don’t sign them as a f*ckin tax write off. I really think hat’s what labels do for the most part. Find ways to get big tax breaks
February 7th, 2008 at 11:03 am
If anyone needs to go the indy route, its these bruthas… Im thinking its getting to late for them though, I hope not but damn how long has it been since they had an “album”?
February 7th, 2008 at 11:27 am
No, they’ll be straight. I feel like Curtis pulled a page out of the Dr. Dre “sign and shelve” manual. Glad to see they got their freedom.
February 7th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
THe truth is these 2 Danze & Fame DO NOT GET ALONG anymore - it was nothing to do with Fif - Its sucks that they are no longer friends cuz they do make good tracks but OH WELL
February 7th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
50 looking smart now: folding G-Unit clothing and releasing a group that hasn’t put out an album in 8 years. That’s 32 quarters by my mathematics. Keep it up Curtis.
February 7th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
who yall fooling..yall remember them on ultimate hustle with dame dash..then niggas look like they don’t even take the game serious…in the studio for hours and aint get shit done….
all the albums they were able to put out only had 2 joints niggas wanna quote as a hit and yall crying like they were done wrong…why when they were on teh roc and aint do nothing nobody was crying foul….
we should have seen this coming since the day they were signed…
yes it would have been nice for them to drop something but who’s really fooling who??

in today’s market MOP is UNMARKETABLE like the LOX
February 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
good for them. co-sign who said just go to koch!
mop and lox have a lot of people waiting for their projects… as long as they don’t spend too much they’ll do ok. you can make profits without going platinum…
February 7th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Damn! No Surprise. I think the DJ Premier route is better than the Kotch Route. Year Round Records and MOP have a good relationship as it is. MOP is one of the only groups ever to get Premier beats without paying for them.
