good morning folks!
i’m trying to remember who used coldplay’s “x&y” track recently. i’ve racking my brain trying to remember who used it. i’m really getting annoyed about not remembering who’s rhyming over it. or my morning breath. eh, who knows…
by the way, i’m listening to talib kweli’s “focus”. i have no idea whether it’s a mixtape or a collabo cd with every rapper across the country. only two songs don’t have the word “featuring” after his name. sheesh…
what goes on people?!?!

December 15th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Let’s be realistic… Read this post without being bias or being quick to counterclaim that Buddens is “the mufuckin best lyricist” and you may get something from it. Okay lets explain the current state we are in, you have an oversaturated industry w/ rappers or musicians from all over the country. An industry that uses the A&R and label to dictate what’s going to be the trend and popular on the radio (FE: snap music, voice distorter, club music, lil wayne features and remixes’). Now realizing how the industry dictates what we listen to there are artists who don’t necessarily fall into these categories again for example: Joe Buddens he did have hit records but he isn’t super mainstream, Styles P, Memphis Bleek, so on and so forth. What I am trying to explain is half of the people who think Joe Buddens MM3 is a classic have not been opened to artists who are even below the level of commercialism that someone like Budden receives because they have no way of being introduced to these artists. The fact of the matter is, you guys are getting a little bit of Italian food after eating subway for sooo long and to you this food is delicious, what you haven’t tried though is French 5 star cuisine, why? Because you don’t have access to it. This is the same thing with Buddens and other artists you don’t have the option of comparing him to other artists who are so damn lyrical they would never have a chance to see any commercial play (w/ radio now and days it would be different in the early 90′s). If you don’t believe me please check out a song called Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story (Feat R.A. The Rugged Man) the RA the Rugged Man verse on that track will shut down every and any verse Budden has ever recorded in his lifetime money on the table. There are plenty of other artists who Buddens would never reach the lyrics of: Elzhi, Black Thought, Termanology, Reks, Zerostar, One Be Lo, Chief Kamachi, Percee P, Access Immortal, Karniege, Edo G, Apathy, AZ, Tragedy Khadafi, Verbal Tec, Planet Asia, Hell Razah, Celph Titled (will eat Buddens metaphors, he has triple entendres) anyways the list goes on and I’m sure I left some of the better emcees out the list.
In Summary:
Joe Buddens is an average emcee, whose work ethic lacks which shows in his marketing and lack of cd releases. Independently underground artists can release 2-4 albums a month of quality music w/ the backing of revenue from a hit song such as “Pump It Up”. The beats on this album are dull and lack luster, they sound like beats me and my buddies used to make on fruity loops or a beat machine in high school. His lyrics can be complex at times and interesting which is the plus for me on this album. Other times his lyrics lack and come off as the cliché New York battle rapper with metaphors trying to tell you who he is rather than an artist just coming off as innovative while still inserting metaphors, similes, innovation, etc (try something different Buddens, good artists are confident enough to do so). As for range this album, it seems to only hit one high for me, hearing his metaphors besides that, it just consistently sounded like I was listening to one song with different beats for me. Overall I give this album 2 1/2 stars out of 5. Like I said before this isn’t me being over judgmental or too harsh of a critic. I am 32 years old and began listening to hip in the circa era when hip hop was EXTREMELY competitive not based on marketing but based on talent which is what set the mark for a good artist to me. I stay involved with underground music because I find that its the best hip hop out, being very eclectic and ranging from gangster to intellectual rap to political to so and and so forth (use of live instrumentation etc) I would have loved to hear some better features and have Buddens step out of his element. Overall he is a good artist but just comes off half assed on this album; it really seems more like a mixtape.
PS. Alot of people will read this and ignorantly say “fuck this dude” he doesn’t know Joe Budden “he the best”, but the reality of it is if your not willing to check out other artists that I mentioned you are going to only know what something like Buddens tastes like you cant judge how another genre of food tastes if you haven’t tried it. I suggest to you who do think Buddens is the best to go to google.com and look up underground hip hop you will find a whole new world of real HIP HOP and when you try this music you will go back to Buddens and realize he is just a small crumb in the real HIP HOP game (Lyrics, dope beats, life).

thorough,
I am familiar with most, if not all of the lyricists you mentioned above and my opinion simply does not fall in line with yours…
Being an artist is not simply about wordplay and lyrics in this day and age because people that can rap are a dime a dozen. Putting some actual introspection in one’s music combined with solid delivery and wordplay not to mention some actual presense on the mic make for an superior artist. Joe Budden has all of the above.
Joe Budden’s music consistently tops most of the artists you posted. If you have any full length mixtapes of Cheif Camachi or Celph Titled I would be open to listen. Trust, if any of these dudes had some real heat they would be getting their shine. The Army of the Pharoahs cd’s are solid releases but lets be realistic, they aren’t light years ahead of anyone.

At that very moment—as if on cue—the San Luis Obispo-born Efron himself emerges from Wayne’s den. I’ll later learn that the 20-year-old brunette heartthrob is crashing in Wayne’s guest room while the two work on their High School Musical songs together, but for now it’s like seeing a polar bear in the middle of the Brazilian rain forest.

Dawg I’ve waited for this for a long time and you literally made Mixtape of the Year in my book. Thank you for the music
@ Thoroughbred
Homie, da whole idea of a “Summary” is for it to sum up wot ur really saying. By making it LONGER than what your trying to say is not a good look. I read the first two lines n got bored. No offense.
This is 2007 and nobody is willing to check old music if we already heard it n played it out. Yes, they are classics but what about new music. Dats wot keeps it fresh. I have all of AZ’s albums and he was one of the peeps on your list. So what??? I ain’t gonna sit here all day and pretend it’s 1999 and I’m hearing shit for the first time???
Oh n for an adult, how da fuck do u not know anything about paragraphs??? No offense once again, but dawg, ur post was just one brick of pure lettering. I don’t know if I was supposed to stare at it n find some magic picture but some degree of spacing is needed. If your gonna type a long post I would happily read it IF it was just seperated into smaller blocks of information. N yeh I type in shorthand because I ain’t gettin’ graded for typing this in perfect grammar but respect a brother’s eyesight with your posting.
In summary: Fuck your comment (

None of these songs can peek Old School Mouse, Young Niggas, 6 Minutes of Death, Dumb Out. But it’s hard to top your previous works. And this album might be more cohesive than MM2. A lot of songs he is just rapping non-stop with no hook, and the song fades out at the end while he’s still rapping!! It’s a awesome album. Worth the wait.

^^Blacksun and Jdillas Donut Holes Project^^
I forgot that Black Sun offered it free on his blog. Haha
I had to listen to the mixtape all the way through since most of the songs are short which is the first time I did that in long time. Other than the song about Terrell Owens, I think it’s heat. There’s alot of samples from Boondocks episodes which actually work.
^^^
fantastic. good looking out.

December 15th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
and on the real, i listen to these beats and i get a little emotional thinking about j dilla…he really was a genius
December 15th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Yeah, yeah. He kills that one.
Track 2 might be the best of the mixtape. This is the first shit I heard from this dude, but he fits J Dilla’s beats really nicely.
k, you’ll like that Airworks (track 12) song. Black Sun speaks on Dilla on that one.

MM3 > AMERICAN GANGSTER ???????????????
LOL, WOW.
DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC OR DO YOU JUST SKIM THROUGH IT??
YOU CAN’T BE TELLING ME MM3 HAS MORE SUBSTANCE, ARTISTRY, INNOVATION, AND MORE PICTORIAL, INSIGHTFUL, CLEVER, AND CAPTIVATING LYRICS THAN AMERICAN GANGSTER.
AMERICAN GANGSTER CHANGED THE GAME WITH THE KIND OF ALBUM IT WAS.
WHAT WAS THE LAST CONCEPT ALBUM YOU HEARD THAT FIT SO WELL???
SHIT, WHO YOU KNOW IN THE GAME THAT MADE A CONCEPT ALBUM???!!!
NOT TO MENTION WHEN YOU FIGURE IN THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME A GREAT BODY OF WORK LIKE AMERICAN GANGSTER WAS MADE IN.
NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM JOE BUDDEN…….BECAUSE MOOD MUZIK 3 IS GOOD……..
BUT HOW LONG DID IT TAKE???
NOT SAYING THAT YOU SHOULDN’T TAKE YOUR TIME WITH YOUR ART.
YOU SHOULD TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU FEEL YOU NEED.
BUT HOW COULD YOU COMPARE THE TWO BODIES OF WORK, NOT TO MENTION GOING AS FAR AS CALLING MM3 BETTER THAN AG.
DON’T COMPARE MM3 TO AMERICAN GANGSTER.

I’m not feelin’ how they mixed down MM3. They need to fire their engineer or get this digitally remastered.
^^^I wondered about this myself….it sounded like they tried to go for an ipod-friendly sound or something. Some of the tracks need some volume on the vocals too (or else my ears are fried). Its still a good tape tho.

SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 OR 2 INCHES AN HOUR CAN BE EXPECTED AT TIMES IN THE HEAVIEST BANDS OF SNOW…WITH VISIBILITIES OF ONE QUARTER OF A MILE OR LESS. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BY THIS AFTERNOON…WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
NORTHEAST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH…WITH GUSTS TO 25 MPH WILL INCREASE BY MID TO LATE MORNING. EXPECT GUSTS OVER 30 MPH BY MIDDAY. THIS WILL LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AS WELL AS WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS WITH TEMPERATURES HOVERING IN THE LOWER
TO MID 20S.
DRIVING CONDITIONS WILL BECOME VERY DIFFICULT DURING THE REST OF THIS MORNING AS THE SNOW CONTINUES AND WINDS INCREASE. MOTORISTS SHOULD REMAIN ALERT TO CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS AS THE STORM MOVES THROUGH THE AREA…AND TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IF TRAVELIS NECESSARY.

Current Joe Budden> Current Jay-Z

Let’s be realistic… Read this post without being bias or being quick to counterclaim that Buddens is “the mufuckin best lyricist†and you may get something from it. This is the same thing with Buddens and other artists you don’t have the option of comparing him to other artists who are so damn lyrical they would never have a chance to see any commercial play (w/ radio now and days it would be different in the early 90’s).
Independently underground artists can release 2-4 albums a month of quality music w/ the backing of revenue from a hit song such as “Pump It Upâ€.
PS. Alot of people will read this and ignorantly say “fuck this dude†he doesn’t know Joe Budden “he the bestâ€, but the reality of it is if your not willing to check out other artists that I mentioned you are going to only know what something like Buddens tastes like you cant judge how another genre of food tastes if you haven’t tried it. I suggest to you who do think Buddens is the best to go to google.com and look up underground hip hop you will find a whole new world of real HIP HOP and when you try this music you will go back to Buddens and realize he is just a small crumb in the real HIP HOP game (Lyrics, dope beats, life).

RIP DILLA
Current Jay-Z>Joe Buddens isnt even in any catagory to be compared to any artists of this caliber come out with weak album releases doesnt count as being a legend
