Video: 8 Diagrams Commercial
I don’t usually post these 30 second commercials, but they went to the trouble of hiring a Pat Morita look-a-like, so what the hell. I’ve pretty much heard the entire album in low quality bits and pieces, but I still haven’t sat down with the retail version and listened to it all the way through. So what’s the verdict from those of you that have? Did Prince Rakeem really turn Wu into an indie rock cover band or are Ghost and Rae just tight over their money?

Yea, I listened to the whole album (it leaked awhile ago). I would say it’s the classic Wu except there are no stand-out tracks. They all pretty much sound the same. “The Heart Gently Weeps” isn’t a suitable single either. It’s like they reproduced some of their commercially successfully tracks of past years and recreated them with a LOT less enthusiasm.

… Ghost & Rae are trippin … it sounds like taditional wutang clan, to me … Rae & ghost just refuse to grow up and evolve … its apparant by their played out mafioso personas, and sometimes juvenile mannerisms … RZA IS the Abbott, for those who overstand … Dennis and Corey are being disrepectful … if money is an issue, they should parlay that business behind closed, soundproof doors … they claim brotherhood, but rat each other out in the press … that aint family … if my brother stole from me, i wouldnt be telling miss info about it … if its about the beats, thats opinion vs. opinion, no need for beef … RZA got them THIS far, so where’s the trust? …
December 12th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
The new Wu is good but I can see why Rae and Ghost aren’t happy about it. Matter of taste I guess. Ghost’s new album is great too but they’re very different sounds. The new Wu is definitely for the weed smokers.

I agree.. but i believe Ye would work hard because he would know it’s a tough task to grasp that sound.. but i think off of the last few albums he’s produced between himself and common’s albums, i think he is good at going in to achieve particular goals when it comes to putting a project together. However, yeah.. there are definitely producers who would do a better job.

December 12th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
The CD was okay. Time has passed Wu-Tang and a lot of other old East Coast cats. They already have classics and should not have had such a big lay-off. I don’t know about the money issues but as for creativity, they definietly needed to grow. Ghost was ok but production was a little sloppy. that superman lover track…he was rapping over way too many vocals WTF it was just clashing….he needed to listen to Redman again. East Coast needs younger rappers…Every region has had new artists introduced but NY new dudes can’t get past the mixtapes cause the old niggas still trying to force old rhymes on the audiences.

December 12th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
I listened to all of it twice and I’d give it a 5 out of 10. The closest thing to a legitimate Wu banger is “Rushing Elephants”. “Take It Back” is great but the Meth and UGod’s hook is generic, could’ve come stronger than that. There’s WAY too much aweful singing on it, that includes Badu and whoever the fuck they got to sing on there. At least Blue Rasberry sang terribly on good beats on past Wu albums.
The George Clinton collabo? Useless. It stinks.
Not a thorough showing from the Clan lyrically either, save maybe Meth and Ghost. (Deck and MK also shine on some tracks). But RZA, UGOD, GZA practically phoned in their verses. And I won’t even get into how uninspired Rae is on his contributions. He shouldn’t bitch about the quality of RZA’s (and I say “quality” with trepidation and reluctance) beats when he brings the laziest shit I’ve heard from him in a while. What the fuck happened to that “Faster Blade” shit son!!
“Life Changes” is 3 minutes too long. No disrespect to ODB but that tribute song kind of sucks. It sounds borderline trite.
Overall, not that “the Wu is coming thru, the outcome is critical” type shit we would expect from a Wu come back album. Who knows, maybe it was rushed. RZA’s production is just boring, simply put. It used to be that RZA could shit on a track and it’d be banger, but with the 8 Diagrams I think he actually DID shit on the tracks.
December 12th, 2007 at 6:54 pm

December 13th, 2007 at 2:40 am
Avg. album comin from another hard core Wu fan. It’s like they got together and tried to come up with new concepts but you can tell they haven’t bonded or really been together in a long time. Great teams or groups have real relationships on and off the court..or in this case, studio.
December 13th, 2007 at 11:26 am
The album is very good - the beats are hot for the most part and everyone has dope verses - IT DOES SOUND LIKE IT WAS PASTED TOGETHER - the chemistry isn’t there, but shit, 9 grown men can’t live in RZA’s basement for 15 years together. Overall, a better than expected and quite good project.
December 13th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Yall dudez is stupid! Ghost album iz damn near ah classic. As far as the WU album…………..it’s good. Ghost and Rae just had ah difference of opinion on the muzik. It could be ah excuse and ah marketing scheme so they can do the WU vs Shaolin album. Didn’t watch the karate flicks? The WU and Shaolin went to war for ah minute! lol
December 13th, 2007 at 11:38 am
If Wu does another album, which i doubt at this point, a few outside producers with that dark sound could help - RZA, Mathematics, Alchemist, Havoc, MF Doom, Kanye (In the Dreams mode) I wouldn’t be mad at, Premier?, anything that Ghostface hand picks, Juju from the Beatnuts (He did a beat on Supreme Clientel)
They really should have had Cilvaringz do alot of the album, this cat’s beats sound like Wu in 1995 - I don’t think the Clan gets along with him though, besides RZA…download “Mental Chamberz” by Cilvaringz and see his talent shine….
December 13th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Big Doe Rehab is another Ghost classic - he remains the GOAT (w/ Scarface) at putting out A+ material for 10+ years
December 16th, 2007 at 10:54 am
Everyone wants a full RZA produced CD and here it is. Stop complaining. Its VERY GOOD. I bought it and enjoy it a lot. Suuuuuuuuuuuu!
Cop it by Monday so they have good first week sales.
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:00 pm
I thought it was a little bit in between…RZA’s production was different, but it was still dope as shit. And it’s not like the emcees didn’t bring it lyrically - it’s the Wu-Tang Clan, so it’s still going to reach a certain standard. To me, it went above and beyond that standard.
