yeah but you’re forgetting a few things

first, lupe’s track record already outstrips doom and pharaoh, commercially speaking. in his first album, he had joints with neptunes, jay and kanye — and jay executive produced the album. he sold over 600,000. he got 3 grammy nominations. that’s more accolades that doom or pharoah will get in their whole careers — which doesn’t make him superior, but damn, in an era where gold is the new platinum, he did damn good for a freshman release.

second, chicks are checking for him (n/h). his style is fly and his swagger is off the meter (n/h). i saw him in concert here at house of blues and he really ripped it. he has amazing stage presence and believe me, there were dimes in the audience. not like at a fucking ginuwine show (n/h + ayo), but believe me, the ho’s came out to support.

ye slayed 50 when 50 should have broke records with his latest album due to all the fucking promotion he got. the listening audience is unpredictable. one thing lupe has going for him is that he is always on some fly, next level, 10 years ahead of his time type of ish. he is the tribe called quest of our generation — to me, it’s that simple. the brother is talented (n/h).

see, the problem is, what you’re basing what were saying speaking about as far as him being boring is solely on what he rhymes about. not the case, bud. it’s about the everything he dishes out. just because he speaks on certain issues doesn’t mean he isn’t boring. i look at how he comes across to me. period. and he’s boring. he’s a good writer, but his delivery is pretty straight forward with it. i would say i don’t hear his personality when he rhymes, but he is boring, so…

he does take it there as far as concepts (when you read about what the song is about), so i don’t disagree with you about him stirring the pot. but when you hear the finished result, it doesn’t hold up to what i thought the track was going to be like… i’m sitting there thinking he could have taken it further, especially with how i THINK his imagination can take it (like that cheeseburger shit. i really hope he’s not either just TRYING to be different just to be different, or he’s running out of ideas). he’s flat in interviews to the point where i have witnessed `st hand people trying to pull stuff out of him to make the interview more interesting. it’s not that he’s not a cool artist like how you’re basing things on, it’s just that IMO he doesn’t exude this swagger you say he has (i’m really starting to hate this word). but hey, to each his own…

I always thought Owe Me was NaSâ€™ attempt at making a Jay-esque song tho..

^What I meant was THE WHOLE SONG. Production, getting Ginuwine on the hook, the video..the whole FEEL of the track(none)..seemed like NaS was reaching WAAAY out there with that one.

As far as pac goes his positive songs seemed to be the best out of his catalog, and those are the songs I listen too, I don’t really listen to the thug pac, because when you aint saying nothing you at least need to have some exceptional lyrical ability.

^^Co-siggity. Excellent point. Even when you think dude is bein honest (”Song Cry”) he still fills it with this false bravado and its so obvious its palpable. All the greats have been able to give you an insight into their heart (see Biggie on the whole of Ready to Die)

Yeah thats true, if he starts to right he might be better than Nas. Nas has all that time to write and read encyclopedia’s and do google research in his free time so when he puts the lyrics doen they always crazy.

^^To date he’s we KNOW he’s done it 100% on four LPs:

-Reasonable Doubt (hustlers mindframe)
-Blueprint (hustlers soul)
-Black Album (His “Fuck You” to everyone refusing to give him his props after the Ether aftermath)
-Kingdom Come (Finally acting his age).

Like I said before, I just think Jay took too long to grow up (none). The rest of the albums are 50- 70% bragging, coz i think thats where his brain was at [II]. He IS the best at braggin tho..

But yeah.. Lyrically? NaS > Jay. Song wise? Jay > NaS
