Video: Frank Lucas Interview with Miss Jones
He talks about some of the inaccuracies in the film and how he used to hang out with Puff’s pops.
Anybody see the BET American Gangster and History Channel Gangland specials on this guy and Nicky Barnes? I have the BET episode DVR’d, but I haven’t watched it yet. I caught the History Channel joint the other night, and it seemed to me like they really rushed it just to capitalize off the movie. It really wasn’t even comparable to previous BET American Gangster episodes that I’ve seen, and I completely expected it to be the other way around.

^He musta been around Loon’s pops too. I’m still wondering if they’re gonna have Loon’s moms in that Nicky Barnes joint. Supposedly, that was Barnes right-hand chick.

Being biased, I’d say the Little Melvin joint was the best thus far.

Anybody seen the comments that Bumpy Johnson’s wife had for Frank Lucas? Not sure if they’re real but they are damn sure funny:
Bumpy Johnson’s wife says Frank Lucas is full of shit. 93-year-old Mayme Johnson, widow of the infamous Harlem gangster Elsworth “Bumpy†Johnson and the man Lucas says was his mentor and who taught him everything he knows, is pissed about what she deems graphic inaccuracies about her husband and Lucas’ relationship. “Frank wasn’t nothing but a flunky, and one that Bumpy never did really trust. Bumpy would let Frank drive him around, but you’d better believe that he was never in any important meetings or anything. Bumpy figured Frank as a liar, and he would say you can trust a thief quicker than a liar, because a thief steals because he needs money, while a liar lies for the hell of it.†Miss Mayme is particularly upset about Lucas’ claim that Bumpy died in his arms. Lucas, she says, was nowhere around the night that Bumpy died from a heart attack while dining at the famous Wells Restaurant on Seventh Avenue in Harlem. She says Lucas probably thought he could get away with the lie because he figured everyone who was around Bumpy at the time is now dead. “Junie Byrd’s gone, Nat Pettigrew’s gone, Sonny Chance is gone, and Finley Hoskin’s gone. Frank would never have said any garbage like that if one of them were alive because he’d know they’d come after him…I bet he thought I was gone, too, but I’m not. I’m 93, and I don’t have Alzheimer’s or dementia, and I’m not senile. Frank Lucas is a damn liar and I want the world to know it.â€

i watched the BET am after i’d seen the film….i have to say BET does real well when they show these gangster stories. the movie was alright, but it pissed me off with the dialogue a little bit, and it wa sslightly one-sided, like they wanted frank to lose. i would’ve like to have seen fuqua at the helm but whatev. on BET they had the real folk, and although you could see that the actors were definitely on point…they didn’t try to force feed a reaction on you. no picking sides. they allow you your own opinion with just the facts straight from the players mouth’s…the real frank is nuts!!!

Hey All . . .
The information about Bumpy’s 93-year-old widow, Mayme Johnson, and her feelings about Frank Lucas come from the Harlem Godfather website at http://www.harlemgodfather.com
Mayme is collaborating with a writer to pen the first biography on her husband, Bumpy Johnson. She really has some choice words about Frank, though, who she says was Bumpy’s flunky. Information about the book can also be found at the Harlem Godfather website.
Mayme was also profiled in the Philadelphia Daily News on Monday, Nov. 5th.
