Some have not been as supportive. Al Sharpton voiced his concerns and complaints.
“We’re in an age where they are hanging nooses. They’re locking our kids up in Jena and Florida. We do not need to be degrading ourselves. We get degraded enough. I think we need artists to lift us up, not lock us down.”
50 Cent concurs.
“Nas sucks,” he said. “It’s nonsense, man. That’s a stupid name. It doesn’t make sense. Why would you title it that?”

… right after Carter 2, Wayne was at the peak of his mc game … lately his verse are showing signs of wear and tear … he needs to fall back for a minute and reinvent himself … i knew he couldnt maintain his past excellence because he has no depth of lyricism and/or provocative content to fall back on … he just rhythmically plays with words … which gets old after a while …

^What?! Da fidduck you mean? You mean to tell me that you don’t acknowledge that is Little Wayne? The simple, redundant, and out-of-place metaphors don’t impress you? The 2,347 mixtapes? The numerous guest features without one memorable verse? The non-rewind factor? The lack of song writing ability? The blatant d-riding from one guy (Jay) to another (Jim)? You buggin’ fam. How can you NOT like Wayne? Just ask eskay. Anybody who doesn’t like Wayne is obviously rapper racist because not likin’ Lil’ Wayne means that you don’t like the whole South, though you can name 5 others that are better than him from the Dirty. Or even less in-depth, his music is just not your preference. GOD FORBID if you just don’t like his music. Smh

1. DJ Khaled feat. Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Baby, and Lil Wayne - “We Takin’ Over” from We The Best (KOCH)
Sure, it’s only one verse - but what a verse. Cleverly slotted last on the song, it opens with such verve - “I am the beast / Feed me rappers or feed me beats!” - it demands repeat recitations.
^SMFH are u kidding me? ppl think that verse was hot?! that shit was straight garbage, everything from the drought 3 was a piece of turd shit. that shit was almost as bad as his r.kelly remix where he spits french. and i kinda consider myself a sort of weezy fan (1/12 songs of his are playable).
October 22nd, 2007 at 8:06 pm
If Nas really wanted to stir some shit up he should name his album
“Hip Hop is Still Dead”
“Hip Hop does not live in the South”
Or if Cam doesnt use it,
“Courtesy Curtis”

____________
Don’t get it twisted Wayne isn’t a top 10 rapper he rarely has a cohesive verse, he has no story telling ability, and his subject matter is lacking. But with that being said, his voice and delivery are completly unique. His rhytmic use of wordplay and other literary tools( especially assonance and consonance) and his multiple flows are the things that make him good.

October 22nd, 2007 at 8:46 pm
here’s the deal with lil wayne. there were always two sides to that ninja. one is that bullshit side, the i am fly like a bird, high like the sky side. everything from drought 3 was wack as hell. but approximately one out of every fifteen tracks (thats the exact ratio, i measured), theres a good song. so basically he does have a couple good tracks, 92% of his shit being poo-poo (no weezy, that dont mean ur da shit, sit down). which means hes nowhere NEAR close to being the *cough cough* best rapper alive. i bet he himself was shocked so many ppl caught on to his bs statement.

^^I’m not surprised at all. Think about who the young up and coming hip hop listening audience is. Have you seen these kids? Have you heard them speak to each other? Basically they’re idiots (not all……. but enough that I feel confident in generalizing)
They aren’t looking for the same things we are in hip hop/rap…..or whatever. Rhymes don’t have to make logical sense. As long as you put two words at the end of each line or every other line that rhyme……thats all they need. A dope beat and a string of in-cohesive words that mean nothing. They don’t have to convey a single idea or story line. AND.. if they did….this young audience would get quickly confused and turn a deaf ear to the music.

“just look at this young generation, they buy this garbage with these idiots talking fast over drum beats about ninjas and kung fu. You ever listened to these songs? its just a bunch of bragging and violence over stolen REAL music from the 70s.
If these kids heard real soul music with people ACTUALLLY singing, this young audience would get quickly confused and turn a deaf ear to the music. Rap sucks. Its not music.”

I beg to differ…yeah you can argue that we “don’t understand” today’s Hip-hop music, but ten years ago there was a different level of intelligence associated w/ Hip-hop songs…as well as a level of intricacy in the lyrics. People actually had to THINK to make a song (I believe the term is talent), which, in turn, made the listener pay attention to more than just the beat and/or hook, which gave the listener a different level of enjoyment from the song. There is also one BIG word missing from commercial rap these days….BALANCE. Why do you think it’s so easy for the DJ to mix songs together at the club right now? Because their Top 40 list is basically the same damn beat with different “lyrics” over it featuring T-Pain. Give it an honest assessment…

@ Norie… he’s half somethin’ and half Puerto Rican. Whatever the other half is, I think the feathers is symbolic of that. And a lot of PR’s have Taina Indian in their blood (see: Tru Life) so that also can be a reason.
