Q-Tip: We Didn’t Ask Lupe to Perform
So Miss Info spoke to Q-Tip today and he’s saying that contrary to what Wasalu says, neither himself or any other member of Tribe asked him to take part in the Tribe tribute at HHH.
"We never hunted him down and begged him to be a part of the show or anything like that. His name was pitched to us by VH1, and we said, ok cool. The only time I spoke to Lupe about the Hip Hop honors performance was on a conference call, which we did with the others artists too, like Busta and Common, to plan the performance."
Man, I bet this is one gig Lupe wishes he would’ve skipped.
Anyway…
I didn’t watch the show last night, so I missed where Tip said that the inspiration for Low End Theory was N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton. But he reiterated that point to Info today:
"…it was listening to NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton” that inspired us to make “Low-End Theory,” and years later, I spoke to Dr. Dre and he told me that hearing “Low-End Theory,” inspired him to make “The Chronic.”
I just have to say, wow, that is crazy. I had no idea that SOC was such a huge influnce on Tribe. Those two albums are directly responsible for making me into the rabid hip-hop fan that I am today. Just this past weekend I spoke on how I was more into the hardcore N.W.A. type of shit until Tribe hit, so it’s beyond ill to hear about that connection nearly 20 years later.

It actually benifits him, what do you think he’d rather do, stay on def jam for 10 more years without any attention even being focused on his project, or move to a different situation where he can release his music in the upcoming future?? Defjam fucked him over, this is the best move for him. At this point Def Jam is focused on other projects, and Budden isn’t coming out any time soon. His priority is getting his music out, you already know Jay-z aint shit as president anyways.
