20+? Hip Hop Weekly is on it’s 56th week. who woulda thought such a marketable product such as hip hop had a 56+ week lifespan
October 4th, 2007 at 5:32 am
>>yeah, what about it?
It’s clear Fif ain’t no where near his early startings when his shit wasn’t industry driven but Crooked I ain’t hot. I mean I downloaded a few freestyles but how many of them could even compare to 50. Let’s be real Crooked I ain’t a new emcee and if sumn was gonna pop for him it would’ve happened already. And I bumped G-Unit Radio 25…it’s not hot like Hip Hop is Dead or Hate it or love it….But really Crooked I ???? And let’s not get it fugged up I’m a real Hip Hop Head but I enjoy my shoot em’ up bang bang like any other red blooded American.
Just Saying

the below quote i just took from another blog and this as to be one of the most on point comment i read in a long time.and you haters are almost like the jews who crucified jesus christ and read this to see why i said it.
” 50′S SOUNDSCAN LOSS TO KANYE CAN MEAN THE END OF THE STREET HIP HOP (at least its commercial success). 50 and YE are two different genres within hip-hop. When Jay/Rockafella put their guy (Kanye) against 50 on 9/11, it was the match-up between STREET HIP-HOP vs. Kanye’s hip-“pop.†But for the price of bragging rights, they’ve done more damage than good. They are giving the White buying public and White execs an alternative to gritty Blackfolk street music.
Whether or not you’re a 50 CENT fan, the fact remains that he has been the most visible and successful artist that represents STREET hip-hop (real hip-hop) for the past few years. Most likely, your favorite rappers (Jay, Nas, D-Block, Game, etc) all fall into that category. With KANYE’s triumph, the industry will give even less support to street MC’s (look at how badly most are already flopping). Which of your favorite gritty, street MC’s would’ve faired better against Kanye? He even outdid Jay’s first-week sales.
Hate it or love it, you better HOPE 50 stays successful. He’s street-hop’s best chance at continued success in the mainstream. THINK ABOUT IT.”

50 puts out just as much pop/r&b oriented singles as Kanye…
Ayo Tech, Follow My Lead, Amusement Park are anything but STREET. 50 still makes decent music, but majority of it is half-ass…no disfigured person. Kanye’s a bitch, but at least he puts effort into his music.

The only thing I take issue with is “street” Hip-Hop being referred to as “real” Hip-Hop. The Writer of that statement is making the fundamental mistake many writers make when refering to hip-Hop MUSIC. I’m not sure if the Hip-Hop community has any more bandwidth to deal with the almost cartoonish images many of today’s Hip-Hop popular music portrays. To paraphase Jeru Tha Damaja: “When the pendulum swings in one direction, it inevitably swings in the opposite direction.” These record companies are pushing the “Jigaboo/hypersexed/violent /semi-literate” Negro over the thoughtful, intelligent, complex M.C.’s that many of us appreciate. I think we are speaking up in the language of the corporations. with our hard earned dollars. So if “street” Hip-Hop is sacrificed, so be it. It would be better if these artists just stepped there game up.

the industry has the average fan brainwashed and now the average fan doesn’t want to think while they’re listening to music anymore. as long as that trend continues, MC’s like Mos, Talib and Pharoahe will never blow up. It’s a shame though cuz those 3 I mentioned had no problem going gold in the late 90’s.

hello everybody (c) doctor on the simpsons….
And the abouve argument about street hop is straight bullshit. 50 cent is street? when did this happen? Dude is fucking beyond rich and still wants to make songs about killing other black people. If I want street hop as you call it I go to scarface or someone who actually makes a point to rap about the consequences of living that life. Not some cartoon gangster who brags about being shot like its some type of trophy. And I love GRODT and early 50. But you can’t make Ayo technology and I still kill it just gets to the point of comedy. Thats why I appreciate Kingdom Come as flawed as it is at least he attempted to rap about what he is relating to now instead of his life from fifteen years ago.

LF: what do you guys think about Sigel auditioning for the role of Big in that movie? if he wants that role he’s gonna have to put some serious weight on. unless he throws a nutty professor suit on.

========================
I feel that sentiment.. but like Malice said
“i done been to the top, i done sipped the juice, so with that being said bird crumbs’ll never do”
People love money. Money is a good thing.. it provide security and allows freshness beyond belief. I like being fresh.. therefore I want money. But it DOESNT mean you gotta sell yourself out…
I think the early-mid ninties era in hip hop is ideal.. where rappers can go out making money but there’s still a substantial underground essence… and the rappers that WERE making money (like fugees, tribe, wu, etc) were very authentic to the art.

I kept having this argument with my dudes from BK and Queens who wanted 50 to win. It’s a wrap. Nobody wants to hear that shoot-em-up-bang-bang shit anymore. We want some music that we can relate to. What made GRODT hot was that 50 entertained us but also said stuff that ANY human being on earth can relate to.
Fast forward to now where, he’s faking FULLTIME..something that most ppl can’t relate to. Truth is he;s rich and no longer living the life he’s rapping about. The fans know this so it’s ridiculous for him to keep rapping like he does. He’s gotta be the smartest dumb cat I know ‘cos his business is right but the way he thinks about the music is ALL wrong.

The final nail in the coffin - an unmistakable indicator of the decline of gangsta rap - is the much-hyped faceoff between two rappers, ex-crack dealer Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson and his far more talented mainstream rival, Kanye West.
Both released albums on the same day last month - and West went on to cream 50 Cent at the cash register, selling 1.3 million albums to 50’s 906,000 as of the most recent industry figures.

Hood will be aight just on the strength on the knowledge he got from the whole experience. He may not be a successful rapper, but he’ll also will probably never settle for a 9-5 gig either. So its a win.

hahaha @ Billz, I just got put on yesterday. Hold up. I’mma try to fetch that for u
G7, I feel you, but i honestly feel that ppl bought more Kanye ‘cos they honesty relate to his msic more and want more of that kind of music.
Greenie I think that’s the one i’m hearing about. i didn’t know it was this weekend tho. That’s not happening for me…. Smh @ time and no money or no money and mucho time..My schedule is too crazy to be trying anything like that this month.
LOL @ going to the parade by accident. How does that happen??
October 4th, 2007 at 11:37 am
I can’t blame J-Hood for what he did. Like he said, inside the cover of Sheeks Walk Wit Me it says J-Hood album coming in 2004. That was eons ago. Instead in 04 all they did was put out Jada’s album which was subpar and they didn’t even feature him on a single track. D-Block had no intentions of putting him out any time soon. And there are worse rappers out than Hood getting albums released.

Give up on this Feces…. nhjic…. J-Hood is garbage! And now that I know he’s 4′ 9″ I could never respect anything else he says when he’s talking that hardcore shit(c) Bushwick Bill Now the LOX are one of my fav groups of all time, but there’s no amount of ghost writing or hanging on that would have made J-hood nice.. His best option is to try an online course… Phoenixonline or something like that.. Maybe Devry
$$$$
Hood used to be way better though. He’s more of a battle rapper type. Back when he used to be flowing real freestyles, alot of people was co-signing that he was nice. Me included.
———-
Battle rappers don’t sell records. Battle rappers eventually take online classes… Battle rappers can’t even sell ringtones… Say what you want about Young Joc but he sold ringtones and make 8m, I don’t know what MIMS sold money wise but I’m sure it was over a millon.. Therefore
Ringtone Rappers>Battle Rappers
That’s if money is important to you

“I don’t know if it is going to affect us at all or if it’ll be good or bad,” said her lawyer, Kathleen Peratis. “They may go all the way to trial with us, too.”
