SAO PAULO, Brazil – A 51-year-old surrogate mother for her daughter has given birth to her own twin grandchildren in northeastern Brazil, the delivery hospital said.
Rosinete Palmeira Serrao, a government health worker, gave birth to twin boys by Caesarean section on Thursday at the Santa Joana Hospital in the city of Recife, the hospital said in a statement on its Web site.
Hospital officials were not available for comment on Sunday, but press reports said the grandmother and twins were discharged on Saturday in excellent health. The Caesarean section was performed about two weeks ahead of time because Serrao was having trouble sleeping, the statement said.
Serrao decided to serve as a surrogate mother after four years of failed attempts at pregnancy by her 27-year-old daughter, Claudia Michelle de Brito.
Brazilian law stipulates that only close relatives can serve as surrogate mothers. De Brito is an only child and none of her cousins volunteered, so Serrao agreed to receive four embryos from her daughter.

^That’s why it’s so important to monitor what your seeds are readin’, watchin’, etc. My parents were puttin’ the comic section part of the newspaper in my crib just so I could start readin’. I remember I was readin’ on a 6th grade level in 3rd grade. The I was put in the G.A.T.E. program for 4th and 5th. I shoulda been in Roland Park Middle (a magnet school) but instead went to like 4 diff. middle schools (it was crazy in middle school back then… lil’ block cliques and ninjas scrappin’ all the time… and me, tryin’ to avoid all that shit). I think things woulda been different had that path been taken, but honestly, I appreciate everything that I’ve been through because it made me who I am. Now, I don’t take anything for granted and humble enough to accept defeat. But that only makes me more resilient and hungry. So don’t take not goin’ to magnet schools as a loss but as lessons learned. Because honestly, the so-called “smart ninjas” that I know who went to the best schools are not go-getters and thought life would be handed to them just because.
