^There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s people like you, eskay, me and many others on this board who have learned to separate entertainment from reality. One of the first rap songs that I ever learned was “Hustler” by Ice T on the New Jack City soundtrack. I was allowed to listen to vulgar, explicit rap music (which was NOWHERE as obscene as it is today), watch rated R movies, etc. But the difference between my household and many others is that I had both parents present. Both of my parents are from the streets and they wanted me to have the SOHK (no website) values, but they made sure to inform me to differentiate between the music (or movie) and reality. Many of these young brothers and sisters don’t have any parental guidance in their homes and look for music to supplement that, which is terrible. Nobody blamed Luke for their child growin’ up to be a misogynist. Nobody pointed fingers at NWA for their kid pickin’ up gun. That’s because there was more family structure back then, even when those songs were released which was during the peak of the Crack Era. Do the artists share a responsibility? No. You’re at liberty to record and bullshit ass music that you’d like. That’s your right and as much as I might disagree with it there’s nothin’ I can do about it. But we must point the fingers at our community for allowin’ a child to be so easily persuaded by entertainment. I’m not a big Pac fan, be he said some of the most profound shit [paraprhasing] about young Black boys not havin’ a father in the house so they turned to MC’s as their father figures. Now we have young girls who are victim to the same circumstance and have tainted views about material wealth, relationships, sex, etc. We can point our fingers at major companies, but the truth is they want to make money off of anything. They don’t care if it’s positive or negative (moreso negative because of the psychological damage it does to Blacks which further keeps the Willie Lynch Syndrome in effect, but that’s another issue). Sad to say, but a vast percentage of the current teenage generation is done. Fuck a congressional hearing, raise your kids. The more he/she knows about the reality of these entities, the less they will pay attention to the bullshit music being aired on mainstream television/radio.
