    a more “friendly” name that can stand alone are the kinds of rappers who gain that broad appeal and those commercial endorsements (gasp!)….

    ^Yeah, because after umpteen years in the game, NOW they should go commercial. Not to mention they already changed their names BACK from Coco Bruvahz to Smif N Wessun. And they only changed it the first time due to legal woes. Some fans have to accept the fact that, though we don’t see them broadcastin’ how much money they make, that they actually live comfortable lives touring and puttin’ out albums independently. They have had commercial success in the past doin’ the music they wanna do, and figured that they’re not gonna change it now just to capture that commercial fame and quick dollar again.

    Rap is competitive. You wouldn’t be in the rap game if you didn’t want to be the best, the #1 rapper.     ^But who are they competing against? They’re in the same category as Rae, Ghost, Kool G., AZ, and many others. They could’ve easily aligned themselves with big producers (i.e. Buckshot and 9th… Chemistry > Monkey Barz), but chose their path instead. Realistically, none of them can compete for the #1 spot commercially because none of those guys make commercial music. Period. I don’t want a bunch of borin’, sound-alike ass music. Why adjust to the climate when it’s gonna put you in the same mudslide as everyone else?
