On This Day We Become Legendary

A preview of the Kanye cover story is up at the XXL site.
On Sept. 19, SoundScan’s sales numbers for the Sept. 11 releases will be announced. How badly do you wanna be No. 1 against Curtis?
I never cared about being No. 1. Never cared about having the No. 1 record on Billboard or anything like that. As many raps as I’ve written, and as much shit as I talk, have I ever mentioned that I sold 850,000 copies of Late Registration the first week? I never mentioned that, because—I appreciate the fans going out and buying, I would hope to sell a million the first week—but my whole thing is not about the numbers, but more [about] people saying, “That song ‘Roses’ really helped me out when my grandma died.” So even if “Stronger” can’t move past Sean Kingston [on radio-play charts], it doesn’t matter, because in five years it will be important to people…

I might bump the south music & feel there pain, but i’m not crazy, to say no limit run was the best based on quality would be blasphamy, I was just saying record sales wise there run was like no other, they’ll never be another record label with a similar type of run like that, it’s people walking around with no limit tanks tattoo’d on themselfs, people was really felling no limit @ one point. & what really makes there run so special was it wasn’t just one person that was completly at the front line, @ first it was master P, but after a few months everyone had there personal favorites, some people liked sillk, some C-Murder, some Full blooded (D-List no limit), unlike a lets say, the rocafella run, where even tho beans, free etc was all tight, Jay was the bread winner, but in no limit case master P wasn’t even the best in the camp, but he made good music at that time. No limit did the damn thing in the late 90’s, let’s not take that away from him

I don’t really think there IS a BEST song on the album, I think there are like 4 or 5 that are the best, and flashing lights is definitely one of them.

Although I’m not up on their sales, I suppose the No Limit crew capitalized on their time in the spotlight. Can’t hate that. I hope they caked up, because they aren’t really prominent in the game any more. Longevity is a rareity in Hip Hop. But… would you argue that they left a legacy?

Albums overall appeal are based on replay value after listening to it a few times. An album that you can go back and pull out of the archives from back in 1998, and it still bumps like it was the first time is a great album. Many albums sound good during the first few listens, but in the end the replay value is lost…

… i hear you … but a good numbers of them VOLUNTEERED to go murder Muslims … to them, may they rot in their own eternal personal hell … (c) Pat Tillman (hahahaha) … when you enlist in the Armed Services, you are fully aware at some point you may be called to kill … if you are willing to murder someone, on behalf of a person or entity that cares nothing about you, you are a fool of the highest order …
***What I’m saying is, yes, it’s part of their job to kill if called upon to do so, but the government has a responsibility to only endanger their lives for just cause, not this smoke and mirrors bullshit….I wrote a paper in my philosophy class last semester, about the similiarities between gung ho soldiers and radical (no Rey) Muslim fundamentalists, and believe me, there are a lot of commonalities…I served in the armed forces, and believe me, it wasn’t to satisfy some kind of bloodlust….a nigga had to pay for college, some way..does that make me a bad person? Do I deserve death because I seized upon a legal opportunity to better my station in life, and improve my family’s situation? My little sister is in the Army, she’s an Arabic translator, and she goes over to Iraq later this month for a second tour–same story as me, college money, and she’s never so much as fired a gun at another person….I understand that it’s an unjust war, but do you think that the US would be better served by having no military? Does every American soldier deserve to die, while their idiotic leaders send down mandates from the comfort of their ivory towers? You my boy and all, land, but if that’s your way of thinking, GTFOH…you’re as one sided as the “kill all ragheads” hillbilly m’fukkas out there…

^
not all who enlist in the miltary are volunteering to murder muslims. there are many people in the armed forces who don’t agree with the bush administration and the “war on terror”
have you ever seen fahrenheit 9/11? michal moore makes a point that its often those that have the least that sacrifice the most. alot of people in the military are there because their only other choices are to work a minimum wage job or sell drugs and hustle(…. then you’d probably have to kill your brother on the street over money or drugs) but when your other option is to have a steady paycheck, with benefits and get out of the hood/trailer park.. the military is very attractive. then it doesnt become a matter of wanting to murder muslims. if you are put in the situation where someone is shooting at you, you shoot back. its a shitty situation. the new vietnam… all because you cant afford to live in america under the bush admin. vicious cycle. i know because i am a soldier. i chose not to become infantry. but i do support my brothers. they have a difficult job. and i support them not the reason why they are in the position they are in. so don’t rush to assume that many of us are blood thristy muslim killiers. i wish it didnt have to be like that.

I agree. I know that in this era of Woosie and Debbie ringtone dudes, Rae is probably “not relevant” or w/e, but why leave a dude on the shelf like that? There are SO many artists getting shelved right now because label-heads don’t know how to market them…

… balance for what ? … of course all Muslims aint perfect, but my comments are about the hoax of 9/11, not interfaith history … where’s the balance in the treatment of Muslims ?!? … you sound like you believe the rhetoric your former bosses implanted in you … im creating balance … im the voice of the unheard Muslims in a land of lying Christians … and there needs to be more like me to create REAL balance … so yes ICON, you always been ‘my mans’ (100 Grand), but on this one YOU GTFOH … i know you have stated you have some issues with your past Islamic teachings, so I overstand your position, but truth is truth and lies fall apart … (c) everything your “leaders’ told you about 9/11 … even Pat Tillman …

daring to go in a direction the fans might not be ready for > recycling the same shit you did your last two albums
curtis lost artistically because he’s not an artist, he’s an entrepreneur that’s got all of you bamboozled, hoodwinked, whatever you want to call it. you’re buying the same bullshit you bought the last Two Times (ayooo), and just because booboo tells you it’s somehow different. do you actually listen to music, or is it merely background for your “checking soundscan numbers†time?
