Game went in on this, wayne got sonned on this track, heard better from both, but game owned wayne on this one, maybe wayne wasen’t high enuff, but if the whole mixtape sound like this then wayne is in trouble, this aint no walk in the park like the album with juelz, game thrives off outshining a nigga on a track, so wayne gonna have to step his game up ASAP. & I don’t like game, but I don’t front on a hot verse

    The voices ain’t leave yet,
they just gettin’ they feet wet
Eyes red, I’m up, ain’t been to sleep yet
Damn near two days, ain’t even eat yet
If you don’t wanna bounce, ‘least take a little recess
And still I’m faced with the bullshit
Feelin’ like Willy D, Scarface and Bushwick
Dog, just when I gather its dead
I gotta knock on wood like Hank Gathers head
When I make small steps toward making it global
My tight knit circle turns into a oval
Filled with motha fuckas just pretendin’ they know you
These snakes in the grass’ll do whatever to coax you
Since they wanna hem you quick
    I walk around like a Ginsu’s tip
And that’s just to get a mental grip
You don’t feel what the pencil scripts
Then eight times outta ten you ain’t been through shit
When you hear Joe you hear the conviction and diction
That open emotion, devotion is different
Real talk of when he ain’t have a pot to piss in
He ain’t have a car not one rock to glisten
    I’m giving ‘em non-fiction,
    conning his addictions
Ya’ll got the easy job, just listen
I do it for my folk and those of another pigment
A little food for thought, you feelin’ malnutrition
But you don’t hear a peep outta me
About the black face goin’ on and the sheep leadin’ sheep
It’s deep, so I try to stay grounded like dad
Must be in City Island, I’m surrounded by crabs
Was once tight, grew apart for dollars
Was on the same panel, now he’s Starring Barbara
Two different views, two different lifestyles
I think ‘long the way one of us got confused
Look, you a hustla, still attracted to the scene
Still doin’ shit I gave up at sixteen
You won’t get a job, believin’ your own lies
You rationalize by sayin’ you pursing your dreams
You damn near thirty nigga you ain’t got cream
Can’t take care of you when you worried ’bout your team
My dude, want a hand out, wait in line
But the clock’s still tickin’ man you playin’ with time,
    It’s so sweet
Thought I was fucked up with no shoes ’til I met me a nigga with no feet
Tried to help niggas, some niggas I couldn’t
That’s my mom in me, I love niggas I shouldn’t
Dudes wanna shoot ‘em ’til he nailed
Some wanna threaten me, ruin my health
Let me teach you a little something ’bout depression
Ain’t shit you could do to me I ain’t already thought about doing to myself
I’m the voice for the youth that’s living with no reason
Fuck record sales, I give ‘em something to believe in
If your day starts in that broken home
Though we never met, ‘least they feel like they not alone
Like I was back when I was tryna’ find dip
The tsunami came through my hood in nine six
    And tried to murder dog,
    I took a little dive
Then I got on my surfin board and kept slidin’
Feel like A-Rod, some say his time’s up
Boo a nigga at home, yup I’m in my prime But
he by far the best player on the team
And then turn around, drop ‘em to the bottom of the lineup
Should get traded, but he don’t wanna move
‘Cause this the only city he got somethin’ to prove
And that’s why I’m seen with heaters
‘Cause you can’t be the man when you on the same team as Jeter Ya dig,
it’s like the game ain’t gettin’ suitable
Makin’ me so sick I need Chicken Noodle Soup
Rappers flyin’ high, then got suicidal
Imitate Jim Jones, end up like Cory Lidle
I married hip hop, ignored what some was tellin’ me
I started hearin’ rumors of infidelity,
    I ain’t divorce ‘er
All the other dudes is so wack that I even feel a little jealousy

    A-Rod– Zero Rings.

Jay- 3 classic albums (RD, BP, Black Album) = Jeter
Nas has “rings” platinum albums, respect, etc. = Posada

Budden = A-Rod.. but A-Rod (nh) always fails when the game is on the line.. He’s been in the post season 3 times with NYY.. It can be argued then that Budden has only been to the post season once..

Sheeit, if anything, Budden’s selling himself SHORT by saying he’s A-Rod..

He’s more like Dan Marino.. mad numbers, obvi skills, but only got to the Superbowl once..

Or more likely, he’s like Patrick Ewing.. Yeah, Budden = Ewing.

    @ J88–

I asked myself the same question.. “Are all his songs like this?” And the answer is obviously, “No”.

The thing about this guy–at least for me–is that he is saying what I don’t know how to say.

He’s saying what I’m afraid to say. (NH on this whole thing, let’s be real for a minute).

For me, this song stands out first cuz of the beat. That’s a classic song by itself. Then ‘Pac made “Until the end of time” with it, and then Budden did his track–and you gotta come with some dope shit to jack a ‘Pac or BIG beat/sample (no murder inc).

For him to come out and say what’s on his mind, how he’s feeling–that’s powerful to me. He coulda made a punch-liney freestyle about the usual bullshit, or current events or sports–but he managed to combine that stuff with deep lyrics, true lyrics, about himself and his life.

Truth be told, I’ve hunted around for more songs like this, and ten minutes and whatever it takes were the only ones I found close to this impact, to saying what he’s saying.

How many rappers do you know would truly say something like “That’s my mom in me, I love ni**as I shouldn’t” Most rappers would talk about how much of a Capo Don Boss they are–they aren’t gonna admit that they got hurt, that people they trusted took advantage of them.

Like I said before– Him saying “Dudes wanna threaten me, ruin my health/lemme teach you a little something about depression–ain’t shit you can do to me I ain’t already thought about doin’ to myself”–that’s me, homey–that’s my life. Matter fact, I’m willing to bet that’s a lot of people’s lives on this site, in this world, sheeit, on your block or in your own inner circle. The fact is–his emoness–he’s saying it. He’s on the front line going “Yeah, I’ve got issues but I’m not running from them.”

Also, he says “I’m the voice of the youth living with no reason

^^…and ferrets aren’t supposed to talk, but you don’t hear any of us complaining. Slow down on what rap is and isn’t…ain’t no handbook.

    >so Budden gets clowned for rapping about what he’s going through in his life, but dudes like Wayne or Game get props for spitting some of the fakest shit ever heard and they get props. Does that make any sense??

^um…..yep, that’s just how it is. Naw i’m just joking, but i’m tired of hearing him rap about the same shit the same way & people say he’s great, no he’s comfortable being in the spot he’s in, atleast wayne tries different things, flows etc, like the “feel like dying” track, budden wouldn’t even touch a track like that, well maybe he would cause he always feels like dying, but w/e, once again I don’t care if a niggas a gangsta, I know rap is entertainment & budden is as entertaining as watching paint dry, so i’ll take fiction over depressed rap anyday.

  183. Rey Says:

Also, he says “I’m the voice of the youth living with no reason, fuck record sales, I give them something to believe in”– Dude, I lived for Puffy back in 1998 the way I live for ‘Ye now, and with all the ghostwriting allegations and hating and shit–It’s hard to identify with someone and go, “Okay, this guy understands me–my struggle (mein kampf–step your German game up)..So when he says that shit, you know he’s not just trying to sell you a cd or a fuckin’ shirt or some VITAMIN WATER.. He’s trying to say “It’s gonna get better, shit–It’s GOTTA get better”..

Then he goes into the politics of his situation.. How many rappers go on and kiss ass and drop shitty songs just to get put out? Um, yeah. All of the ones out that don’t have big guns backing them–ie ‘Ye, Jay, or Just Blaaaaze.. He talks about the crab in the bucket mentality that NY has suffered from ever since C-Jack came along..

He’s talking about 3 or 4 different things in this one song, flowing from one to the other almost effortlessly..

He’s got punchliney songs. He’s got “Fuck Def Jam” songs. He’s got “Emo-er than Rey” songs.

He took all of that, and put them into one song, over a classic beat/cut, and made himself an anthem, and a track that I myself can put on any day and FEEL, even when the world is crashing down–and nobody’s life on here is that sweet to not have days like that.

So I’ll be that emo ayo dude that Morph and Phuque love to kill on here, but dammit, I’m not gonna ever be ashamed of that shit…just like Joe Budden isn’t ashamed of it.

    No Man Crush.

^He doesen’t talk about being depressed every song, but his best songs are about being depressed, that’s what i’m saying. my 2 favorite songs by yo is about being depressed, see how Jay-Z best songs range out, not about the same things, budden best songs IMO are about the same thing (except 3 sides)

  190. tyrone biggums Says:

@ shanti/aziz - yeah….i have a friend ( smh he actually produces too and is pretty good but thats not the point ) who i was talking to awhile ago about someone i forget who probably saigon grafh or joell ortiz or someone….and my boy was hating and when i was really asking him why he was hating and what he was feeling( nhoc ) he actually straight up said

” i don’t like music that makes me think i just wanna hear a hot beat with someone flowing smooth on it ”

…he really could care less if it was people mumbling as long as it flowed….now he produces so he just cares about beats you think….no cause he really has prefences to certain rappers….and really it seems for no apparent reason…..

  191. green eyes Says:

    BKScribe Says:

    @ Greeny..

wha did you think of the overall theory?

^ i don’t think its entirely off base. I mean I love Hov as much as the next person, but dude did whatever he had to do to get to the top, fuck whoever got in his way. And I respect that to an extent. But to anyone with an ounce of industry knowledge cold see that Joey was getting a bum deal, because at the time he was set to drop, he really was looked at, industry wide, as an artist the represented the essence of Def Jam, a rapper’s rapper that could was had street respect, that had commercial appeal and had ridiculous skill, could make decent club tracks and tracks that the die hard fans could feel. He was an MC, what Def Jam was built on.

But as history has proven, Hov doesn’t like competition. Just check his stable– all the Roc-a-fella cats were aight. Some of them could be lyrical beasts if hey tried hard, but it was a very calculated move on his art to never sign an artist that had even a slight percentage of the crossover appeal that he himself represented. Just looking and Beans and Freeway would scare “mainstream” consumers off. Bleak had the looks, and I think he;s decent on the mic, but his biggest hit, while it might have technically been on his album, was lets face it, a Jay Z song (Is That Your Chick).

So yeah, BK…i can def see how there were some big moves and shakers blocking Joe. Its fucked up though, because ul;timately its a move that ended up shooting Def Jam, and the East Coast in the foot. They held back on a cat that could really make major moves, allowing for mediocrity to sneak in the back door, in a desperate and faulty attempt to secure Hovs place at the throne, despite of the fact that his place was already secure. Joe wouldn’t have taken his throne, but he def could have come in as the King of the new generation.

^^I feel you Shantilly, but what do you think is accurate balance, since things seem lopsided?

I mean there are so many venues to hear music that I rarely turn on the radio at all these days. I watch a video here and there, but even with my limited exposure…I hear songs like “Wipe Me Down,” “Hey BayBay,” “My Lipgloss Is Poppin,” “Rollin Like A Rock Star,” etc all the dayum time. I’m still waiting to hear Common ft. Dwele - The People track on the radio and video countdowns….SMH
