MTV’s 10 Hottest MC’s in the Game

MTV reveals it’s list of the 10 Hottest MC’s in the Game.

Yes, Lil Wayne has been voted the Hottest MC in the Game right now by MTV’s hip-hop brain trust. Keep in mind, this was not a career retrospective: The members of the round table sat down and factored in everything in the game that has been happening in the last six months to a year, and came up with who was tearing things up the most.

10. Jim Jones
9. Common
8. 50 Cent
7. Jay-Z
6. Young Jeezy
5. Kanye West
4. Andre 3000
3. Game
2. T.I.
1. Lil Wayne

MTV can not be trusted when it comes to number 1 in anything dealing with hip hop. Going by those factors, I would put TI #1 over way. Kanye should be at least 2 or 3. Common at 9 is a joke. Be was a classic cd. If you put Jay, why not Nas. I would have felt better if BET done this list instead of MTV.

  4. Plug Says:

eh. looks good to me. I was gonna say Jim jones snuck in there but he did lide the streets up wit “ballin” Somebody wake me when the weezy haters get in…

^the fact that you said BET makes any comments you say after this one.. dead to me.. forever.

the only thing I agree wit is the nas thing. the only difference with nas and the rest of the names on the list is guest apperarences. nas brought out his album and went back to chillin in his rocking chair sittin on the porch

  7. cOLD Says:

^what does this list say to Joell Ortiz “IT” factor, he’s been spitin crazy on mix-tapes and Papoose too for that matter.
I’m thinking both joell and pap, are going to loose whatever buzz they have.

  8. BKScribe Says:

if mtv factored in 6 months to a year ago.. nothing caused more controversy than hip hop is dead.. and while everyone else on the list has been makin some sort of noise, common is relatively the quiet one.. nas shoulda been on the list over common.

that round table was suspect anyway.

    ^sizzle.

  10. Ali Says:

Why isn’t Royce on there? He’s had the bar exam which was some of the best i’ve heard this year. Probably for the same reason as Nas, few guest appearances.

  11. Plug Says:

it’s called the Rapeover freestyle, but I’m not upping it.

The list is extremely mainstream with the exception of Common. Most people still aren’t familiar with who Joell Ortiz and Papoose are. Once they get their major releases out then they’ll probably be on that list. With that Joell album I don’t know what the fcuk Dr. Dre is waiting for???

  13. mike Says:

50scent, nor fuckin Andre 3000, should have made that list. Curtis’s flow is straight fuckin wack, and Andre 3000? Yo I respect Andre as an entertainer, but a real m.c.? Both of these cats should have never even been mentioned. Young Fuck raps better than his boss Curtis, real talk. No Nas, whatever, I’ll let M.T.V. tell the story.

  15. Joe 88 Says:

T.I. should’ve been #1, wayne #2, Jezzy #3, if 50′s “I get $” would’ve been his first single rather than amusement park (even tho it started off slow, but picked up speed) he would’ve been higher on the list, J Jones barley made it, he only had 1 hot single, but a ton of guest spots. As much of a jay fan I am, he should’nt have even been on this list, let the young folks have there turn, I know he didn’t have nothing to do with the list he should’ve been disqualified off his legendary status alone, no one else on this list is close to him all time, so he should’nt have been allowed on the list. Game @ #3 is a joke, that is all

That list is basically equivalent to the “Who’s Now” thing on Sportscenter, they’re taking into consideration more than just lyrical skills, and in some instances, *cough*Yung Cheezy*cough*, lyrical skills wasn’t even considered. It is what it is. But Wayne is definitely #1 hands down, all around, nhjic.

^But isnt rap entertainment? Don’t we all listen to rap to be entertained? Once again, there’s more to rap than just lyrics, lyrics plays a part in rap/hip hop, but without the right beat selection, presents & flow, the lyrics are dull & plain, every thing factor in being a hot mc, what jezzy lacks in the lyrics department, he makes up for in good music. It’s not always about how you say things, sometimes it’s about what you’re saying & you don’t have to be lyrical to get you’re point across

Niggas say I ain’t lyrical, (ha haaaaaa) I wasen’t tryna impress ya’ll niggas, if hating was a crime, they’ll arrest ya’ll niggas

First of all this list is dead on, fuck anyone who thinks different. This list was not based on the mc’s talent or lyrical skill. It was based on their current buzz, features, singles, radio play, MTV/BET video rotations and how much their feature or current albums were anticipated. As well as how hot their buzz is in the streets currently. Its nto about all time greatest, or skill.

With that said, they put Jay Z’s name on the list for dick riding purposes alone, it was out of respect that hi sname was included on that list. They had to be “rapper” politically correct, you can’t have a hip hop list with putting Jay Z on there.

The truth is Jay released a album prior to nas, and since then has only been on a few mediocre features. people may argue that the popularity of Rihanna’s umbrella is responsible for his place on the list, but he spit a normal verse which was like 10 seconds. HHDX: The final question I have for you is on a more positive note. I just have to ask how it feels to hear Lil’ Wayne on the new Ja Rule song, “Uh Oh,” paying homage when he spits, “Call me young Raekwon, I’m a chef in hell’s kitchen”?

Raekwon : Yo, that’s good money right there. I’m glad he feel like that. That means that he’s recognizing my mustache. He respects my mustache, and I respect his for even saying that. I feel like when these young dudes pay homage they track record becomes more respected, because you respect dudes that already did it. So I can’t do nothing but take my hat off to the kid and just say, yo, I admire that. That’s what it’s all about, real detecting real. I appreciate that.

  89. Paperstacker Says:

    T.I. should’ve been #1, wayne #2, Jezzy #3, if 50’s

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

TI number 1 for what?? GTFOH TI’s buzz has been deadened, his album was anticipated but when it was released the reception was lukewarm. People everywhere classified it as hot garbage. As far as Wayne he bested TI in every catagory necessary for picking a winner in this top 10 list.

Wayne has a greater buzz compared to TI due to him appearing on every remix and most singles currently out. Wayne gets way more radio airplay, again due to his saturation of singles and remixes. Big things poppin is not hot on the radio right now, it had its run, and it’s over. TI does not have a hot single out right now that is dominating the air waves. Well his album is already out, so we can’t rule album anticipation in favor of TI, however people are anticipating the Carter 3, and Wayne has way more mixtape appearances.

Also I get Money is currently the track to play on these pop/radio stations. So 50 should have been ranked higher than TI, because 50 has more album buzz, album anticipation, more radio airplay, and his single I get money is whats hot in the streets. Why is TI number 2? Anyone could ask any of these kids on the streets and you’d know Wayne and 50 have more buzz currently.

Again this king of the south bullshit and people eating it up is the reason TI was included on this list. I can’t hate on dudes hustle, he sold gold first week. Great for him, but you know MTV put him on the list the same reason they put Jay Z on the list.

  185. G7 Says:

I agree that Nas could have squeezed onto the list. Look at what he did since last fall and he could be. HHID, one of the best albums of last year, caused some controversy. Killed his appearence on that Diddy track. Shined on his appearence on that Hi-Tek Music For Life track. Did the score for the Blood Diamond movie, one of the best of the year. Got a tribute track from an arguable GOAT, Krs One while still living. Who else can claim that? Brought a bunch of 80′s and 90′s MC’s together on the Where Are They Now remixes which didn’t get the shine they deserved. He could be on the list, but I would rather see younger cats get some opportunity to shine.

^ i dont know.. I think they both really comliment each other… Big Boi grounds Dre and keeps him from totally drifting off into crazy experimental territory, and Andre pushes Big Boi to step out of the box. Busta Rhymes
    Consequence
    Pharoahe Monch
    Rhymefest

Should be on the list before fockin Jim Jones.

Of course if you count non-major labels there are dozens that easily son half this list in actual rap skills. I know, rap skills don’t count for much in 07 in the MSM or radio rap fans.

The industry took advantage of the Get Money ethos and emphasis WE put on by supporting jiggy blingy cats in the late 90s, and they’ve assembled an army of shitty MCs who only extoll those virtues–and then they fucked us by only putting out MCs who talk the blingy money shit and they’re acquisition thru CRACK SALES, instead of going “legit”..

    ^^^^

If an album is wack, I completely understand.. Hell, I downloaded “Push it to the limit” last summer, but you’d have to pay me to even listen to Port of Miami..

My point is that I think people are being too tough on the artists that have consistently tried to put out quality music or positive messages thru their music.. and I don’t mean some “let’s all hug” bullshit, or some *barf* Black Eyed Peas shit.. I’m talking that Lupe, Common, ‘Ye, Kweli stuff.. Stuff that’s good on it’s own, and good without resorting to the 6 Bs–bullets, blow, bentleys, bitches, bling, bucks–Or, if it does resort to any of those, to do it at a higher level–Jay, Big, Nas.. crack guns money–but there’s a level of quality there that goes above and beyond “Human Crack in the Flesh” or “It’s not my birthday but My name’s on that cake” kinda shit….

There’s a difference between Airplane and Soul Plane, na mean? Same concept, different execution, same idea, different quality..

and I agree with Jamz.. the rap fans that claim to care are too quick to shit on “the good guys”.. If the music wasn’t free and therefore easy to acquire and easier to dispose of, the judgments wouldn’t be so harsh..

Instead of people appreciating the accessibility of the music, they’re taking it, consuming it, and shitting it right the fuck out, days, weeks, and months before the projects hit stores..

and for all my Billz/Morph fans out there– If that’s a mufuckin’ conspiracy by the man to get us to do that shit, ya’ll are ALL falling for it..

Yamo support that Kanye, That Kweli, and that Common–at least they’re trying.
