Jay-Z Heading to Columbia?
The label, not the country.
The Daily News has an item this morning about Jay jumping the Def Jam ship and heading to Columbia Records.
A source very close to the hip-hop mogul confirms he is in negotiations to jump to rival Columbia.
Other insiders say the arrival of Jermaine Dupri as president of the Island Urban music division in February is the reason.
"There isn’t room for two kings at one label," says a source. "Why would Island bring in another power-hitter urban guy?"
They go on to say that with Rick Rubin’s recent installation as co-chairman at Columbia, he’s looking to bolster his management team.

Dame is the perfect person to run Def Jam right now. He has the back bone, business sense, swag, and the ability to get on the shelf artists such as (Joe Buddens) more exposure and the correct marketing to get a successful album put out. Yall might not remember this but Jay and Dame made a comment some years ago about how they were going to surprise the world. I think this was all planned out from the beginning. Take a look at Dames personality. Do you really think Dame would have given Rocawear to Jay and let him claim the 400 million dollar business without almost dying for it? Think about it. They were in so much business ventures together that they would have had to publicly go to court to settle on who the rightful owners for the last 2-3 years. If you have a countdown timer that does the shutdown:
Open up your console (click start > Run> type “shutdown -a”
and that should stop the computer from shutting down on you.
If that doesn’t work, try to start the computer in safe mode, so you can get your files off of it. I really have no clue what the issue is because I’m not there, nor am I the tech support dude. Nevertheless, if you have a windows installation disk, you can try to “Repair” your current version of windows.
I had the same error you’re having and I got caught in the loop, I had temporarily fixed the problem. But I eventually went ahead and reinstalled windows because my registry(all the hidden startup instructions) was corrupt

If you can get there you can run your antivirus scan to check and repair any virus issues that you may have.

I agree with Jamz @ 11:29. I’m guessing your o/s- operating system is mashed up. Or it could be that your hard drive has just failed on you. I think I had a similar problem a couple months back. My hard drive crashed on me(nhoc) and my friend fixed it up and put a back up drive on my pc as a safe guard incase it happens again. Shit’s frustating.

If you have the same problem is safe mode, then the issue is 99% in your registry, instead of some child porn software that you downloaded. Which means that you’ll need someone who kinda knows what they’re doing to be there with you.
Try the “shutdown -a” thing in the run box, and hope that gives you some time. Try it in safemode too. I’m going to Wally World to print out some pictures so I’ll get back at you all later

idunno what kinda computer you have, but you can start the system up without going into windows and get into the console aka DOS. That’s where you’d type in the chkdsk command. ALSO, if you type “help” into the DOS, it gives you very very very basic instructions on how to do commands.

I dont know if Columbia is a good place for Jay. On one hand, he can start fresh and there isnt as much pressure handling the urban division of Sony compared to Def Jam which has a legacy. But on the other hand Sony’s Black Music division has been an absolute mess apart from Beyonce.
Werent they supposed to be folding there urban division and sending there big artist to the main divison? I know they had some problems with payola and Nas and DMX have had problems with there promotion on Columbia. Lil Flip is no longer a viable artist it seems. Amerie has potential but isnt promoted right in the States compared to internationally and Three 6 Mafia seem too damn lazy to make an album.
On paper Def Jam is still the most talented label with something for any Hip Hop and R&B fans’ taste (Nas, Red, Meth, Roots, Luda, Rick Ross, Rhianna, Ne-Yo, Juelz,Chrisette Michele, Ghostface,Kanye). There is so much potential with this label. I mean for god’s sake they made DMX and Redman go platinum, so bad climate withstanding they could have improved there promo ( Its one thing to reduce your costs to lower your losses but no promo whatsoever, not even calculated marketing is a joke).
The other thing I’m wondering is what happens to the name “Roc-a-fella” ( I know the company been dead but the name was still used) and artists like Bleek, Young Gunz and Siegel? Jay owns his masters but what about the others, will they jump?
Nas technically is on both labels for at least another album (His deal said its Def Jam/Columbia for the first 2 albums, then he’s all Def Jam for the last 2). But SOHH rumours are he wants to leave form his own label and sign Chris Webber’s brother David ( I honestly dont think even Nasir is that stupid)
Plus, even though Jay might be gone as an exec, is he still a Def Jam artist? Will he still continue his “comeback”. What of the Lox rumour? Are they columbia bound?
The problem with these labels there’s way too much hierarchy scrambling and not enough careful managing of artists during a bad climate for music.

No question Redman and DMX were talented but what I’m saying is Lyor and Kevin were able to take 2 street/core Hip Hop acts and make em go plat. DMX didnt fit the bill of a commercial rapper at the time (think Puffy, Mase, Will Smith) but they had the confidence to promote and create a buzz for him. Similarly with Redman before Doc’s da name, Red could only achieve a string of Gold Records (which aint no diss) but they had great promotion to help him go plat finally.
