Ja Rule & Lil Wayne Both Arrested in NY
Plus the Cal is on me.
Dwayne and Jeffrey both went and got themselves locked up last night in strikingly similar but separate incidents.
Hip hop artists Lil Wayne and Ja Rule were arrested Sunday evening after a concert in Manhattan on charges of criminal possession of weapons, each in separate incidents, a New York Police Department spokesman told CNN.
Police say officers pulled over a speeding car around 10:37 p.m. on the Upper West Side carrying Ja Rule and two others. They also recovered a .40-caliber pistol from the vehicle.
About an hour later Lil Wayne was arrested after officers caught him and another man smoking marijuana on the street. They found a .40-caliber pistol in his possession.
Now, I would hate to call this a publicity stunt, and I don’t think it was, but that’s awfully coincidental. Especially for two guys who have a single out together, one of who is desparately trying to become relevant again.

Rapper Lil’ Flip was arrested yesterday (July 21) in his hometown of Houston, Texas, for credit card abuse.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the rapper, born Wesley Weston, turned himself in to the Harris County Courthouse around 2:30 pm yesterday.
Lil’ Flip, 26, was released on $2,000 bond and is due in court on Monday (July 23).
Neither police, nor representatives for Lil’ Flip were available to comment on the charges.

Recently, NFL player Michael Vick, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly participating in a dog-fighting ring. Surprisingly, John Goodwin, manager of animal fighting issues for the Humane Society, drew a connection between Vick’s case and hip-hop. “The growth in dog fighting has been largely fueled by some elements in the popular culture, specifically some rap videos,†Goodwin told O’Reilly. “For example, there is a rapper named DMX. He has a CD named Grand Champ. There is a big pit-bull on the cover and the booklet that comes with the CD describes a champion as a three time winner of dogfights. According to the Houston Chronicle, the rapper is accused of purchasing a $671.00 Southwest Airlines ticket from Houston to Baltimore on June 8 over the phone about an hour before the flight was scheduled to take off. The ticket was purchased with the credit card of a man named Jordan Salinger, who informed authorities that he did not authorize the purchase. Flip told police that the ticket was bought by a man named Kevin Frank, who in turn denies knowing Flip or making the purchase. The Chronicle reports that the rapper turned himself in to police at the Harris County Courthouse at around 2:30 p.m on Saturday (July 21) and was charged with credit card abuse. The rapper was accompanied by community activist Quanell X, who says the whole thing is a misunderstanding. “It has more to do with people around him, and not the man himself. The man is not a criminal; he’s never been in trouble,†X said. Flip posted $2,000 bond and was released. He Is due in court on Monday (July 23).

… it wasnt bad … but it wasnt as good as i expected it to be … it sounds rushed …. Common’s delivery used to be more complex, and his wordplay better … he seems like the type of artist that would be better off taking a couple years off between lps, so he can gather his considerable creative thoughts … the way Stevie Wonder used to do … it might br he’s just trying to make commercially viable songs, after years of being basically an underground artist … cant fault him for that … he paid his dues to the game …

***It was at this club in Alexandria, VA, called the Birchmere…small venue that only holds like 400 people…it was a nice spot, where you can sit down and eat dinner while the acts perform, and because of wifey’s lil hookups, our table was right next to the stage, like 2 ft away…Vivian Green is performing there soon- I’m prolly not going, but if I was, I would get in soooooo much trouble if my seats were that close, lol…..This dude at our table was like, “Man, I’m glad to see Boyz II Men perform but it’s sad that they’re performing here”, lol…for real, that joint was jive like the club at the end of every “New York Undercover” episode
