Curtis: Nas Reads Too Much

We just put up some exclusive content that was cut out of the Curtis cover story over at the plantation.

Curtis says that Nas reads too many books and that’s why he isn’t hot right now. He also speaks in depth on Cam and explains why Jimmy should be running Dipset. Other topics include M.O.P. and how he’s not allowed to eat cookies because he’s watching his figure.

    Remy Ma
July 17, 2007 — A mild-mannered maintenance worker said he had three words to say to gutter-mouthed gunslinger Remy Ma, the rap star busted for al legedly shooting a girlfriend over the weekend: “I hate you!”

Alvin Lewis, 40, recalled in chilling detail yesterday how he stared down the barrel of a gun and watched in disbelief as the hot-headed hip-hopper aimed a pistol right between his eyes and squeezed the trigger.

“I hate her. How would you feel if someone pulled a gun on you? You wouldn’t have love for them.”

Lewis, a supervisor at the Buckley private school for boys in Manhattan, said the harrowing May 2003 face-off was sparked when a friend’s daughter falsely accused him of slapping her.

The unnamed girl complained to her aunt, Remy Ma, who also lived in the Russell Avenue apartment building in The Bronx.

“Remy came down and she had a gun and she said, ‘You like hit ting women?’ I said, ‘I didn’t hit her.

“I tried to reason with her and she just pointed the gun at my head and squeezed [the trigger]. I just saw my life flash before my eyes. It just went bang. I think it was a starter’s pistol. Trust me, if it was real, I wouldn’t have been here.”

Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, was initially ar rested for menacing, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, all misdemeanors, as well as a violation for harass ment, according to court re cords.

She pleaded guilty to menacing and was given a conditional discharge for lack of evidence, according to a Bronx District Attorney spokesman.

Lewis said he eventually dropped his complaint. “I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore,” he said.

Yesterday, back home from Rikers Island, the defiant rap diva denied she shot her longtime pal Makeda Barnes-Joseph.

“I didn’t shoot my friend. I didn’t shoot nobody,” snapped Ma from the second-floor window of her Cliffside Park, N.J., home.

Her criminal rap sheet includes a slew of violent arrests.

    * Back in 1996, Ma allegedly bashed the face of a 15-year-old girl in a homeless shelter.

    * In October 2002, she was sentenced to 15 days in the slammer for failing to perform four days of community service for a December 2000 fight-related arrest.

    * On May 23, 1998, Ma allegedly hurled a statue through a man’s window in The Bronx, but didn’t do any time in jail.

    * Last month, she was nabbed in Queens, for allegedly driving with a suspended license and illegally tinted windows.

shit, with a networth of over 300+ u can buy a future. and as we all “should” know, nothing erases the past like $$$.

if 50 plays his cards right, by the time the nigga is really 50, cats wont even remember the CDs he put out all like that, they will remember Vitamin Water, Selling G-unit clothing & abunch of real estate deals… that nigga wont be known as 50cent, just like what Jay-z is goin thru now.

jay-z & the 50cent brands will one day come to an end, like all brands & them niggas will be known as S. Carter & C. Jackson, “Urban” Multi-Millionare Moguls… not rappers.

I rarely comment on NR, but a lot is off-base here. 50 didn’t say that Nas reads too much - yes, he uttered those words, but his intent was to say that Nas doesn’t *filter* what he reads when communicating it to his audience. Trust me, people don’t like it when you seem to just endlessly funnel “information” to them, and give them a hard time for not knowing things.

Fif is savvy. He understands the popular music biz, understands the marketplace. Sure, he doesn’t create classic, critically acclaimed hip-hop with integrity, but he is parlaying his musical (financial) success into opportunities in other arenas and has managed to avoid getting corny. He’s as opportunistic as any other rapper, and just as hypocritical, but he doesn’t seem to be fundamentally mean-spirited: he has the largeness of mind to wish that Dipset was doing well, which, let’s be honest, is something you would never hear from a Jay (maybe until very recently - maybe).

I say let Fif be. He’s trying to chart an honest path through all the bs of the entertainment world, using who he needs to use and no more. I don’t respect him, ethically, but I don’t think anything he’s doing is as problematic as a lot of people in this thread seem to.
