    @Big Homie

I’ve given up on Detox man. That album has been off my radar for like two or three years now. What the f#ck does Dr. Dre do these days? It takes him eons to craft some good beats. And signing with Dre is the worst. Eve who?? Raekwon who?? Joell who?? It’d be a shame if Rae and Joell don’t drop an album this year.

  10. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

Gentlemen, place your wagers (no racetrack)…which one gets released first..”Detox”, or “the Growth”….

  11. tyrone biggums Says:

@ icon….damn thats a tough call can i go with both….if first to pick detox will come out first…dre can put it out whenever he wants just isnt buddens wants it out and cant get it out

  12. Big Homie Says:

@G7: Yea my hopes for Detox died too, but I remember a few months ago there was a week or two where it was said he is working on it for a release this year. Probably just him in the studio working on other projects. Well the link said no Rae as well, but a release from Joell. Either or no Detox, Rae, or Joell is a big disappointment.

@ J88– Oh yeah, Nas shoulda sent Jay a Christmas Ham or something.. He’d be in the “Positive K, Kwame, Young MC” pile right now after the Oochie Wally disaster. Especially when you consider that Stillmatic wasn’t really that good.. Got Urself A Gun was good, The intro was amazing, One Mic, and Rewind.. That’s 4 tracks. Ether gave it a whole mystique about it, and changed it from “aight” to being mentioned as his #3 after *sigh* Illmatic and IWW..

    BUT!

I dunno where you were in summer ‘02.. Cam and the Dips ruled Hot 97 around them, Power 105 rolled with Nas’n'Nelly.. Thems are the 2 NYC hip-hop stations, and Jay’s only appearances for the most part were on “Welcome to NYC” and “Guess Who’s Back” with Scarface.. Jay caught L on his home turf, patna!

As for the guest appearances on BP2.. By that point the whole thing had died down.. but the non-roc guest appearances were Twista (a roc proxy), Big Boi (but I heard that song was his anyway but 3G didn’t wanna be on it), the Neptunes (barf), Sean Paul (who did hooks for anyone back then–he was the ‘02-’03 Akon), Dre (ghostwriting favor), Rakim (aftermath..dre..etc), and a couple random singers. Not alot of big rappers on that one (all respect due), and No NYC rappers..

Best of Both Worlds ain’t really get much play up here, especially after Kells caught the case.. Neither were the freestyles, and Mary had No More Drama remix poppin’ at that time.. The unplugged album was played on MTV but that’s cuz they ain’t wanna choose sides (obvi)

right the vote was between superugly and ether…how is that fair…the 3rd worst song jay did vs. the best nas did….jay freestyled over a played out beat with no hook….now put that up against the beat and hook of ether and who do you think is gonna get more votes on commercial radio

but me and the boy a.i. got more in carmen than just balling in rhyming/ get it more in carmen > and nas bar

I dunno where you were in summer ‘02.. Cam and the Dips ruled Hot 97 around them, Power 105 rolled with Nas’n’Nelly.. Thems are the 2 NYC hip-hop stations, and Jay’s only appearances for the most part were on “Welcome to NYC” and “Guess Who’s Back” with Scarface.. Jay caught L on his home turf, patna!

rey your confused….the only cam album to ever go plat….was cause of the welcome to nyc song with jay….dips started getting hot why? cause they were on the roc…and people wanna talk about jay-z crying wat about the hissy fit nas threw when hot 97 wouldnt let him lynch a puppet of jay…..dude did nothing to whine and trheaten to quite rapping for months

Dips definitely got hot cuz of the Roc, but what I’m sayin’ is that they played them more than they played Jay..

Could be argued that Cam ruled NYC that summer–and I wouldn’t even challenge it–but not cuz of the Jay thing, but because the dips were still making music that was worth a shit back then..

Ty I never heard the interview with Jay crying but I know that NYC called in their votes and Nas one.. I’m not saying jay was crying a’tall.

let me repost my comment since Joe 88 has dislexia:

Although Jay has a ssssslightly (and I mean slightly) better catolog than nas (see street disciples), Ether almost ruined Jays career. Jay almost lost. In physics, Kaluza–Klein theory (or KK theory, for short) is a model that seeks to unify the two fundamental forces of gravitation and electromagnetism. The theory was first published in 1921 and was discovered by the mathematician Theodor Kaluza who extended general relativity to a five-dimensional spacetime. The resulting equations can be separated out into further sets of equations, one of which is equivalent to Einstein field equations, another set equivalent to Maxwell’s equations for the electromagnetic field and the final part an extra scalar field now termed the “radion”.

C’mon bruvah, think about it, life is all about walking the tight rope between two extremes, that’s in ALL walks of life. ^^^

LOL.. I started listening to rap full time when I was 12.. Scenario and the Remix of Scenario.. before that I liked MC Hammer, but that was it.. I liked the singles offa Naughty By Nature’s first album.. but it was in 7th grade that I really checked for it and made rap my main music..

Before that? Sheeit, whatever was on Z100– I dug what would be considered adult contemporary now, also pop, random hair band songs.. but my Mom put me up on Prince (nh) from jump street.. Madonna, Michael Jackson.. few others. I liked everything but country and Opera..

Then about the time The Chronic dropped it was Game Over (no Jayceon Taylor).. It went from Dre to Onyx to Run DMX (down with the king) to Cypress Hill’s “Black Sunday” album & Kris Kross’ “Da Bomb” album.. Doggystyle, 36 Chambers……

but I didn’t listen to the radio back then–never had a good one at home, my father hates rap so I couldn’t listen to it in the car–so if they didn’t play it on MTV or Rap City (taped by my friend Charlie), I ain’t see it.

So I knew about some singles that made their way around– 93 ‘Til Infinity, Can I Get Open (i think that’s the original flavor joint), I Got Cha Opin… Domino a little bit—–but I know beans about pre-Chronic rap.

You take that, add in the fact that I’m very resistant to changing trends in music, and throw in the “too poor to buy albums” thing, and I missed out on a lot:

Illmatic, It Was Written, Mobb’s Catalogue, OB4CL (and the rest of the Wu solo albums except for Tical and Return to the 36 Chambers), etc etc.

“Just cause a nigga owns a thesaurs
    Doesen’t means that he’s nice” (c) J-hov-88
    ^^^^

I thought the line was “Just cause you don’t understand the BS he sayin dont mean that he nice….just mean you don’t understand the BS that he writes”

or maybe it’s 2 different songs. my bad if so

  312. G7 Says:

    Rey

don’t succumb to e-pressure. don’t let anybody tell you what you should like or go out and cop. do you homie. no hermaphridite.

  313. Rey Says:

I was probably way more into:

    Beats
    Rappers actual Voices
    Choruses

back then. I think I’ve proven to be a fan of mostly conscious, lyrical MCs, a fan of big orchestral-to-poppy (without being insulting to my intelligence) beats…

So if I missed a few, it’s cuz I listened to music for entertainment back then, and I just didn’t dig some of it.

    Assault if you will.

    No HOmo.

Rey was listening to Garth Brooks before he got into hip hop last month.

    ————————–

    … lol …

… yo, X … i pressed up a copy of that Young Scarface joint … he’s not bad … reminds me a little bit of Evidence from Dilated Peoples … appreciate those Common tracks, too …

  318. landLORD Says:

… Cannibus most glaring flaw is his voice … the over-authoratative, strained, clenched-teeth delivery gets old very fast … makes his lp’s hard to listen too straight through … you gotta listen to a canibus cd like 3 songs per day, tops …

  319. Phuque Says:

    *comes back from dentist*

*e-smacks Rey with e-toothbrush for Mobb Deep/Run DMX incident*

  320. Still Smoove Says:

i love these niggas. no homo.

can’t wait for “the get back”, it should be hot…just like “the minstrel show”, which was UNDERRATED.

  321. e-dubbs Says:

    good musik! no kanye.

  322. Spirit Says:

lol @ the ‘go to lane bryant’ sung ad lib and pooh’s shoutout to the husky section…
