@G7: Yea my hopes for Detox died too, but I remember a few months ago there was a week or two where it was said he is working on it for a release this year. Probably just him in the studio working on other projects. Well the link said no Rae as well, but a release from Joell. Either or no Detox, Rae, or Joell is a big disappointment.

Thems are the 2 NYC hip-hop stations, and Jay’s only appearances for the most part were on “Welcome to NYC” and “Guess Who’s Back” with Scarface.. Jay caught L on his home turf, patna!
As for the guest appearances on BP2.. By that point the whole thing had died down.. but the non-roc guest appearances were Twista (a roc proxy), Big Boi (but I heard that song was his anyway but 3G didn’t wanna be on it), the Neptunes (barf), Sean Paul (who did hooks for anyone back then–he was the ‘02-’03 Akon), Dre (ghostwriting favor), Rakim (aftermath..dre..etc), and a couple random singers. Not alot of big rappers on that one (all respect due), and No NYC rappers..
So yeah.. Jay still took a big hit. (no marky mark movie OR ty’s lunch break)

Then about the time The Chronic dropped it was Game Over (no Jayceon Taylor).. It went from Dre to Onyx to Run DMX (down with the king) to Cypress Hill’s “Black Sunday” album & Kris Kross’ “Da Bomb” album.. Doggystyle, 36 Chambers……
but I didn’t listen to the radio back then–never had a good one at home, my father hates rap so I couldn’t listen to it in the car–so if they didn’t play it on MTV or Rap City (taped by my friend Charlie), I ain’t see it.
So I knew about some singles that made their way around– 93 ‘Til Infinity, Can I Get Open (i think that’s the original flavor joint), I Got Cha Opin… Domino a little bit—–but I know beans about pre-Chronic rap.
You take that, add in the fact that I’m very resistant to changing trends in music, and throw in the “too poor to buy albums” thing, and I missed out on a lot:
Illmatic, It Was Written, Mobb’s Catalogue, OB4CL (and the rest of the Wu solo albums except for Tical and Return to the 36 Chambers), etc etc.

back then. I think I’ve proven to be a fan of mostly conscious, lyrical MCs, a fan of big orchestral-to-poppy (without being insulting to my intelligence) beats…
So if I missed a few, it’s cuz I listened to music for entertainment back then, and I just didn’t dig some of it.
