The production was okay.. some good stuff, some bad stuff.. In all fairness, I picked that up in 2002 when my Bad Boy stanism gathered steam after Saga COntinues and We Invented the Remix.
I think by that point I couldn’t buy Puffy as a gangster at all.. As for when it came out, I was unhappy with rap as a whole (except for dre and eminem, and maybe a few other random singles), so I never bothered.
But yeah, tween the hit or miss production, the lack of Ma$e, and Sean Combs trying to be SuperKillaNiggaThug, I just can’t dig it.
Actually, part of that is cuz he switched up his whole style, his whole message to try to keep up with the south (some production on that and some of his flows were southern sounding–i’m not hating) or with the Ruff Ryder/Rocafella gun talk.. He shoulda stuck to doing him, whatever that meant.
I’ll give you the guest appearances (except for Jay’s phoned-in verse), they were all tight.

What was it about him that made you believe in him as an artist?
I don’t know if I saw him as an artist, I just knew what he was going through in his life. I understood his life, coming from the projects. He had his own movement behind him. He had some strong niggas and he knew he had to make it good for them to get out of the hood. [He was] a pretty boy and had a lot of swag. He loved the fast life.
