Thats exactly what its like except I think in the early to mid 90’s in the US there was more of an acceptance of rap music from the major labels, there really isn’t any major labels looking to sign UK rappers. Its yet to get commercial which is a gift and a curse. On the one level we don’t have any rappers talkin about candy paint, jewels, cars etc cos none of them have got any except for maybe Manuva and Dizzee, so you get that authentic, raw, hip-hop. On the other hand though hip-hop isn’t at a level where these dudes can get major shine cos they’re not gettn major promotion from major labels. Regardless I think UK hip-hop is poppin at the minute.

I got to admit hiphop with a UK accent is hard for me to digest sometimes cause Ive been listening to it one way for so long. I think some heads here see it as a dilution of hiphop….like how an american suburb kids accent (white or black) doesnt cut it in hiphop. On the other hand if you come to the US and try to get a job doing commercials or hosting any shows, the possibilities are endless just cause of the accent. I think the idea of Just being the new Preemo is because he is that dude who you have to get a beat from for the album.

When you buy one of Just’s beats you buy that whole high-energy, drum and sample-driven Hip Hop that will stand out on your album (see Fat Joe ‘Safe 2 Say’, Fabo’s ‘Breathe’, Ye’s ‘Touch the Sky’, Dips ‘I Really Mean It’, Freeway’s ‘Line em Up’, Rhymefests ‘Dynomite’ etc etc etc).

Im from ATl area, and I got to say, I never understood the whole Outcast thing. I under stand the gimmick side of it i.e. they were a different image for hiphop and from the south. But technically as rappers?

When they first came out, it seemed like they were doing the Pharcyde west coast style. Today they allover the place. I bought outcast albums cause i wanted to hear rap with a twist not cause they hiphop geniuses. Maybe hiphop image innovators.

Personally, I was never a big De La fan….don’t know why. They never did nothing for me. Their first album was aight, but still….
