You gotta give Jay credit when he came out he was nice but wasn’t in most peoples top 5. But when Biggie(r.i.p) and Pun(r.i.p) died Hov took the top spot on most peoples list. I bet in the early 90’s people would have said Meth, Rae, or Nas would be in Jay’s position(No Bleek)

I liked 50 and Jay’s older material and I won’t hate on them for making pop songs to make money(because I would too if I were in their shoes). But as a fan I wish they’d have more street bangers on their albums. It wouldn’t even have to be on solo albums they could make group albums to promote other artists on their labels I just want some music from their old styles.

I only liked “Kingdom Come” “Dig A Hole” “Lost One” and “Hollywood”.
Jay’s flow and delivery sounded very weak and tired throughout the rest of the album. He also uses the same flow as Young Chris way too much, it encorporates his regular speaking voice which is really whiny and annoying.(just like Wayne’s). I think Jay has been living of his legacy his last few albums and not bringing the heat(no shaq).

Crooked I’s hip hop weekley vol. 6 over the “get it shawty” and “amusement park” beat > Lloyd and Curtis’ songs.
It’s a smart idea on Crooked I’s part to jump over the lattest beats and outshine everyone. Hopefully it means an album will be released this year.

I heard my story in Joell’s flow.. the last track on the brick gave me that feelin i used to get when I heard real hip hop. Them days are gone though.. how many supporters and joell well wishers went out n copped the album.. probably half as many as downloaded it off the net. the game is archaic as far as a business model.. the art is intact as joell represents that, but the artists of today who vibe off the legacy left by the Jay-z’s and diddy’s put business before art.. and that is why we have the shit that is out today.. trying to capitalize of off whats hot for the moment rather than connecting with your audience on an emotion level. it is what it is.. imo.

devil’sGod’s advocatedo you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it? Two Times you must be a fool to even think 50 is touching Jay on any level (no Three Sides to a Story). 50 Cent crumbles in front of the most successful commercial artists, i don’t see how he can stand a chance amongst the likes of hip hop’s heavy hitters. honestly dude, how can 1 good album stand up against volumes (no in my lifetime) of classics. you must not listen to music if you still fucks with 50 after those three garbage tracks, do you even listen to any of the shit posted on this site or do you go straight to g-unitworld?

man, i agree with what you’re saying, but so what? like what does it change, the game is changing and record company’s should try and keep up, since they were setting the trends and calling the shots before, now it’s the fans that realized the power lays in their hands. they just need to step their game up if they wanna cake off this shit, and yes, music is a business, but they make it out to be so godly, that when people start finding that link with artists, they directly jump in and charge them a fee… smoke and mirrors

downloadin is a beast.. would labels be better off making albums available for download on the labels website a few days before they ship to the manufacturers for cd printing? not like it wouldnt still spread over the net but it might help a little..
imo the people who will buy the album and the people who will download it are largely two different demographics. you have fans that will download and buy.. you have those on the fence who will download opposed to buying since they were unsure and you have those who are fans but download because after years of gettin jacked for 3 songs you like it’s time for pay back. I’ve seen so many examples of artists and labels misplaying the download game.. making limited versions of full albums available for a limited time before the album drops.. the single is free, but you have to pay for the rest.. none of it works. I’m not sure exactly what would except a vast rehaul of tactics.. Itunes is also responsible since you can get the songs you like.. the idea of an artist advance is outdated and designed to keep the artist under the labels thumb.. any deal is designed that way with certain allowances made for the artist in certain cases.. but with todays technology and information sharing capabilities there is no reason an artist can’t get a buzz, book shows, sell cd’s thru an independent distributor and place their songs on itunes for self. If your music is heat and you wanna put in the work.. you’ll be the master of your own destiny. but since no one has really done it up like that and got publicized for doing it.. people still think getting signed is the move. yall saw the dude from onxy’s breakdown from koch on 8 dollars an album.. smoke n mirrors

thought i was the only one that heard that.. but you can go even deeper (nh) with the swackin..

It seems like there is less and less originality and creativity. The swagger jacking is becoming even more apparent. I think this factors in to the discussion of declining sales. There’s no point to buy everyones album since almost everyone’s making the same exact thing. Some music is too generic and formulaic. Step out of the box(no jack in the box)
on that note I’m out.

i’d like to keep the optimism up and think that, but i also feel music catches a snap shot in ya life.. and reflects where you were at that time.. and that album caught that time so perfectly.. as the blueprint did, I am, The Love Below, Capital Punishment, even killa army’s debut meant something, but Reasonable Doubt was even more compelling. I think also part of the reverence for the music is the nostalgia we all feel regarding it.
